You could do better, you could be the greatest man in the world

Who: Jesse Turner and YOU
When: forward-dated to 8/21
Where: EVERYWHERE, kid gets around.
Summary: An average day for the Antichrist
Warnings: n/a - will update if needed!

Jesse isn't sure when school will start, but he assumes that it will start soon. The idea makes him a little nervous: after all, this is the first time he will be going to school without his parents to look after him.

But for now, he will take a walk around the city. One minute he will be in Sector 1, then he will be bored and arrive in Sector 9, only to leave after he gets creepy stares from old men huddled in a city corner, red-shot eyes glaring in his direction. And so Jesse disappears agin, arriving at the empty docks, and then he's gone again several minutes later.

It will be a matter of time before Jesse runs into someone. Anyone, anywhere, anytime.

[ Maybe one day, Jesse will enjoy having his own place here. Maybe in Sector 3. He likes to look at the various houses and pretend what kind of person he might be, what kind of job he might have.

Eventually he will hang around the various stores, just window shopping. He doesn't even bother to bring out his wad of cash - everything was way to expensive anyway. Might be best: he doesn't even like coffee. ]

[Chessur has always been inclined to drift. The people are so very different from the people he knows best, even if he's gotten used to the general feel of the Port by now. He's gotten used to the odd looks too, not that a Cat ever cares much about being the center of attention.

So it is that he's drifting quietly along in broad daylight, as if a floating cat with an ever-present grin is perfectly normal.]

Jesse looks up when something catches his eye and he just gape at the sight. It was like seeing something out of a book.

He knows he shouldn't be surprised - he's friends with the Hulk, after all - but he still can't get over how bizarre and sometimes epic how things are in this city.

[A strange city for strange people. It makes sense, certainly, for all that Chessur still finds it more than a little unusual - or perhaps, not unusual enough. At the moment, however, he's far more interested in the attention he's getting.]

Can I help you with something?

[ Whoops. Busted. ]

I never seen a floating cat before.

[ A beat of silence. ]

Or a talking one.

Why, of course not. It's not every cat that chooses to talk.

[...or can, necessarily, but that's a point that Chessur is about to bring up regardless of how strange the Port can be. After all, he's quite capable of understanding cats regardless (although he may have an advantage there).]

[ Of course, Jesse's mind goes to next logical conclusion.]

So cats can talk?

Why, how else would I be speaking to you?

[He's no mind reader and truth be told he's not quite sure he wants to be. Not given the people he used to spend time with back in Underland and certainly not here.]

[ ... now he's confused. ]

So only you can talk. But the other cats can't? Or won't?

[This is often the case with Chessur, to be honest.]

Why don't you ask them?

[ Jesse is more familiar with this area, especially in Sector 4 where the Tower is at. Here he walks around, looking, studying. Some stores know him already as he frequents there almost every day. He doesn't often brave Sector 9 very much, but he likes to check out Sector 8 for all the factories. They look really cool. ]

[ The Fairgrounds in Sector 5 is possibly his favorite place to be. He loves all the rides and the petting zoos. He wouldn't mind living here some day with his own place - especially if it is so close to the beach.

Sector 6 sort of intimidates Jesse, purely on the grounds that he thinks Spencer might be there. Spencer is a powerful guy, right? So he might be there. Even so, you might see him there. ]

[ Sector 10 gives Jesse the unpleasant feeling of pity and fear. For one, he seems to start to think his meager apartment in the Tower is like a castle compared to the slums people are living in. The fear part is when he doesn't like seeing the looks on a certain group of men's faces. It unsettles him, so he doesn't stay in the sector for very long. But still, he gives the place a curious walk, but not for very long.

Sector 11 is the place where he likes to go when he doesn't want to deal with the crowds on the beach but still want some peace of mind. It's all empty and sad, like the seaports Jesse sometimes hear about in the Eastern Seaboard where there's no business there 'cause all the fish die out. ]

[Guess who else enjoys the quiet of nature? Magneto is sitting quietly, meditating, on a bright red blanket.

There's a glow from his lap - a small ball of light, which changes colours as he focuses on it.]

[ Jesse is in his own thoughts, just walking around until something shining catches the corner of his eye. Seeing a familiar form - one he has only seen on the network - Jesse approached the man. ]

[He's focused inward, on himself, his breathing, his heart rate, and on filtering the light "sitting" in his lap, cycling it through the visible light spectrum. So he doesn't notice Jesse right away.

When he does, however, he looks over, blinking slowly, eyes glowing so softly that it might be a trick of the light.]

Hello Jesse.

[ Jesse stops his approach when he sees more of what the man is doing. He keeps a cautious distance, remembering on how most of the time his experience with other peoples' powers tend to be negative. ]

Hi.

[ There's a moment of stillness as Jesse thinks over the next thing to say. ]

What's that?

[ He gestures to the light in the man's hands. ]

[Magneto doesn't mind caution but in this case, it's not warranted and he softens his posture to try to put Jesse at ease.]

Just light. Have you every held a crystal up to the light and saw a rainbow?

[ And darn it does Jesse had to pause and think on that too. ]

Not a crystal, no. [ But Jesse knows what he is talking about. ]

[Good. He motions to the blanket, inviting, but this takes enough concentration that he can't shift his focus or movement much.]

That's basically what I'm doing. It's handy after Sirens.

[ He can't see how. Nothing can beat teleporting when it comes to dealing with the Sirens. Bam, you're home, no creepy rust stuff when you open the door. ]

How come?

It's a distraction for the monsters, as well as a defense against the weaker ones. It's best to not be out in it at all but sometimes it's an unavoidable necessity for me.

[ Jesse took his time to sit down next to Michael Xavier. ]

Why you need to go out at night?

[ Normally he would have thought it is normal adult stuff, but with the monsters out there, he figures it's a little more than that. ]

[Up close, Magneto smells like ozone - like he's put too much bleach in his clothes, despite not wearing white.]

Sometimes to meet with others, sometimes because I'm too restless to sit inside the house. I've never really liked to be confined.

[He doesn't detail that he goes out to steal at night on occasion.]

[ Man, that's a weird smell. It took Jesse everything in his power not to crinkle his nose. ]

Don't the monsters scare you?

[Crinkle away, he wouldn't be offended.]

Oh yes, they do. Some of them quite a lot.

Then why go outside?

Because sometimes you have to do things which frighten you, which you don't want to do. Ugly truth of being an adult.

[The light in his lap shimmered and flickered out, he turned to Jesse and winked, with a smile.]

It's why you shouldn't want to be one if you don't have to be.

[ Jesse is getting the impression that he's getting a little stab for living out on his own like adult might have. Jesse has a neutral expression, but he can't help but feel a little annoyed. ]

I guess that happens.

[ Meaning becoming an adult.

Jesse is not known to be the most precise speaker. ]

[He laughs softly.]

Tell that to Bobby Drake if he ever shows up. He's a grown up - but he's not an adult. It's why most of us are fond of him.

[Because no one would call Bobby an adult. No one.]

[ Well. Huh. Jesse doesn't know what to say about that. ]

What else do you use your powers for?

Mostly to move things around, or function as a shield - I don't need an umbrella for instance. A flashlight obviously, and other more detailed oriented things. I'm a walking xray and MRI machine, for instance, and I very rarely get cold. So quite a lot.

[ ...wait. ]

Can you see people's brains if you are an x-ray machine?

Oh yes. How they work as well.

Is it weird to see their brains? Are they oozy and gooshy?

Well, it's odd certainly, but no, they are pretty. I could show you yours, if you wished to see it?
