Kevin didn't want to be here. He wanted to be anywhere but here. He'd left Mimsy with Frau, because he didn't trust anyone else. He wanted his dog back and he wanted to be with her, holed up in his apartment, or the house, and just... not here. Those things were here, and there were Voids and other things.
But, he swallowed the bile rising in his throat, and he refused to lower his hand. They were expecting him. The door guard let them in, and Kevin pushed his hood back from his hair, pushing a gloved hand through the spiky strands. "They waitin' fer me?" Kevin asked. They were supposed to get to the lower levels.
"You know the way." The guard went back to his book.
"Yeah, I know the way." Kevin turned away, headed down the hallway.
