It was highly doubtful that Vanitas' reasons for withholding his information were that altruistic. Vanitas was hardly known for his benevolence, after all. Still, if it provided a means to the end, he'd bite.

"How dutiful. Very well then. You have twenty-four hours to find the information you require. After that, I will expect a full and proper report."

Of course, this was all too likely an attempt by his erstwhile apprentice to try to escape and hold on to the semblance of freedom he'd gained. That had to be stopped, or at least a caveat provided.
