fidele: (& deniably)

At "Stop" her frame had frozen mid-motion, suddenly caught in uncertainty of the voice's owner-- it sounded too far away to be her target-- but it wasn't good enough a reason to hold her back. The person in between her and the one who had cried out was still there and posed a threat. She swept forward, tilting the knife at her side away and ahead in case the distance between her and the other was shorter than she had judged, heels clicking fast.

-But, "don't attack"? Would that come from an attacker's lips? It had all the tone of defensiveness, fear, even, and though her eyes narrowed to process this information, she slowed in her path. It could be a trick. It could--

The hysterical repetition almost caused her to drop her knife in surprise. She knew that voice, and as she walked closer, hesitantly but more steadily now, a familiar form began to take shape. Nonetheless she held her knife before her, the man's sudden jolt sparking a reflexive motion to tilt it again, the blade flat away from her own body. Defensively. Although there was really no need.

She stopped, knife lowered an inch, barely metres away from Kaiji. To think that she had considered him a threat-- he was trembling, she could see at that distance-- it was almost sobering, staring at him with such intensity and scrutiny and lacking the immediate danger to push her into action. He wasn't worth putting herself into throes of pain again for a greeting, but, as the only person she recognised... She lowered her head slowly in a nod. He ought to recognise her too.
