November New Arrivals Log!

Who: October Arrivals, Greeters, NPC recruiters & anyone else who happens to be hanging around the Tower Apartments to 'welcome' newcomers.
When: Throughout October, 2012 (Please Specify Date & Time in Thread Header)
Where: The Sector 4 Baseball Diamond, Parking Lot & Lobby of the Tower Apartments
Summary: This is your catch-all one stop log for arrival interactions! New Newcomers can also meet and mingle in the apartment lobby.
Warnings: Nausea, potential for violence, language- add on any warnings or ratings as they come up.

It feels like a whiplash, like being plucked up into the sky and sucked through a very tight dark space before being deposited rather roughly in the City. You will be disoriented, dizzy, slightly nauseous, and very sore upon arriving in Siren's Port. The weather is chilly in November, and while new arrivals may be lucky enough to arrive during the safety of the day, the danger of night is growing longer.

Until recently, no one knew why, but every new arrival from another world gets deposited in the dead center of an ill-kept baseball diamond.

Some of the fences and signboards have been replaced with information and welcoming signs, posted by Newcomers as encouragement. However, from time to time some form of degrading graffiti'd tag might appear here or there, 'Go Home!' or 'Now You're Fucked, Newmeat' 'Welcome to Sirens Port, Population: Too Many to Add One More' and 'Attention Newcomers: Please wait here till sunset sirens to receive your welcoming package!')

A person is thrown from their pull somewhere within the fenced-in baseball field, either in the dirty infield or tossed rolling into the overgrown dirty outfield. A recent fire has charred the left side of the outfield, and grass is only starting to grow back.

Standing on second base and facing home plate, one will see a rotten, old and deteriorating backstop and chain link fencing, much like any little league baseball field. Broken down bleachers made of worn out green painted wood can be seen in disarray behind this, and some old trees line the wall and fencing along the right side.

To your left is a walled in Dugout with a secured door. The dugouts are made of thick concrete and set low into the earth. This one has been outfitted as a safe place to enter during the night to hide and wait out the morning. Sometimes Greeters can be found here, waiting for people to show up. The Dugout to the right has also been cemented over and secured with a heavily guarded and armored door.

The Baseball Diamond is maintained by the city Government, who allow greeters access to the infield to retrieve new arrivals, but preserve the area's neutrality. Everyday citizens and corporate affiliates are not allowed access to the diamond. The small building constructed over the right dugout is still guarded heavily by government-controlled Voids, to block public access to the Core. Those who cooperate with greeters will be treated fairly and be given helpful information, lead to the Tower Apartments and offered a month's lodging. Those who put up a fight will be met with Voids and detained by police.

Just beyond the fence, in the Tower Apartments parking lot and lobby, SERO and AGI recruiters will be passing out informational leaflets presenting company propaganda, including discounted coupon booklets and travel-sized toiletries as a "Newcomer Welcome Package".

Other then the lights around the Core dugout, there is one single electric light above home plate that remains on, even in the Darkness. There is an open walkway near the dugouts that leads into the parking lot of the Tower Apartments. The front doors of Tower One are always kept unlocked, but you had best close them again quickly if you slip inside during the night. The office of the Landlord is well marked near the lobby, and you'll receive keys there.

The second tower is abandoned and boarded up, still scorched in places. Asking around, you might hear about the anti-newcomer movement and an attempt to blow up both towers back in January. You'll be advised not to go wandering in there- it's no doubt structurally unsound, though the first tower still stands tall and (mostly) functioning.

The general atmosphere in the city is tense this month- the darkness is longer and the nights may seem claustrophobic- the Underground Mall is a packed escapist paradise on the weekends, with overnight stays at the many motels popular. AGI dominates the nightlife scene in Sector 1, but SERO's state-of-the-art Zipz Arcade, nearing its 2nd year in operation this month, is a serious contender for the bored and restless. Many people are anxious about tightening corporate security and the demands of loyalty for affiliates and employees of both Afterglow Inc. and SERO, though SERO appears to be taking the most dramatic measures to ensure their people are full supporters of company values.

[Frau sees that and steps in before the kid gets any brilliant ideas in his head.]

I know you can handle yourself, but you're not going out alone the first few times.

[Or ever if Frau can help it.]
mikhail_in_me: (I believe in my strength)

[personal profile] mikhail_in_me 2012-11-13 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Teito considers that and opens his mouth to argue but then shuts it. Frau knows this place..he doesn't. It would be stupid to just go out without him.]

Alright..I just want to see these monsters for myself.
ibreakrules: (idiot)

[personal profile] ibreakrules 2012-11-13 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
You will. They're hard to miss, and unless you're dead to the world or living under a freaking rock you'll know when darkness hits.
mikhail_in_me: (Default)

[personal profile] mikhail_in_me 2012-11-13 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Okay..we don't have to do it tonight. I'm not feeling all that good..[He doesn't want to encounter a monster when he isn't at full strength.]
ibreakrules: (idiot)

[personal profile] ibreakrules 2012-11-13 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. Right. I forgot about that.

[It's been awhile since Frau arrived.]
mikhail_in_me: (Eh?)

[personal profile] mikhail_in_me 2012-11-13 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Teito reaches up and rubs his head.] Is this normal for this place?
ibreakrules: (calm)

[personal profile] ibreakrules 2012-11-13 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty much. It screws with you when you first show up here.

[Of course it screws with you all the time too, but it's more subtle.]

Get some rest, okay?
mikhail_in_me: (Default)

[personal profile] mikhail_in_me 2012-11-13 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Teito nods and lays back on the bed, he curls up on his side and sighs softly as he relaxes.]
ibreakrules: (calm)

[personal profile] ibreakrules 2012-11-13 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Frau heads to the door and flicks the light off but hesitates before leaving the room. He slowly glances back over his shoulder.]

My room's right down the hall... if you need anything.
mikhail_in_me: (Default)

[personal profile] mikhail_in_me 2012-11-13 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Teito turns his head a little to watch Frau.] Okay. Wake me if I sleep too long. [The events of the last day have been far too exhausting.]
ibreakrules: (calm)

[personal profile] ibreakrules 2012-11-13 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Frau nods though he has a feeling Teito will be up with the evening sirens even if Frau would rather he sleep through the night.]
mikhail_in_me: (Default)

[personal profile] mikhail_in_me 2012-11-13 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Teito probably will be, not that he realizes it yet. He feels like he could sleep for a day but he probably wouldn't forgive himself if he did. He might not even be able to fall asleep..his mind too worked up with everything he has learned.]

[Jade is the first one start walking knowing they will follow her anyway.]

It's a bit of a long story and we will tell you more once we get back to the apartments, but basically we've been pulled into this city by some force, we don't know why we are here, we just are. When night time begins, Darkness happens, creatures appear everywhere - there is no possible way to permanently kill them.
moveslikestrider: (and put on a show.)

[personal profile] moveslikestrider 2012-11-15 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Like I said, we're in cold as fuck Canada. I'm disappointed, I haven't seen a mountie or a moose yet. [He walks after Jade, slowly so John would catch on they were moving.]

But yeah weird shit is out and about right now. I will punch you if you ask about E.T.

[personal profile] pranksterheir 2012-11-17 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
[John is quick to follow after! He raises an eyebrow as he listens.] You guys all make it sound like we're stuck in a horror movie.
spaceydog: ([GT ; cool])

[personal profile] spaceydog 2012-11-21 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah!! That's a good way to put it! Except its real and it happens every night, and there is no way of stopping it!

[That's a cheerful way to put it.]
moveslikestrider: (Would you be the saviour of the broken.)

[personal profile] moveslikestrider 2012-11-21 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
And every monster you kill comes back the next night. [Dave shrugs as he leads the way towards the newcomer apartments. And that's when something leaps out of the dark. He ducks snapping a kick at it, while giving Jade room to shoot.]

[personal profile] pranksterheir 2012-11-22 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh look, baby's first monster. Only John is far from being a baby, and he has a hammer on him, so when the thing leaps out at them, John reacts. He lets out a high pitched yelp and once he sees it's not human, he swings his hammer down on its head as hard as he can.]

You guys really weren't kidding about the monsters!

Oof. There is a distinct feeling of slamming face-first into the ground. Yosuke can't quite recall tripping, though. Did he hit his head on the way down somehow? Ugh. He must have. Everything is spinning, like a lazy merry-go-round. He rubs at his face and groans quietly, then sits up gingerly.

...Uh. Okay. This isn't Junes. It's not even Inaba. His eyes widen in alarm, but somewhere in the back of his mind he feels a tug of familiarity too. Oh...oh, it's cold. Really cold.

Something about that makes his heart race, and his breath hitch in his chest. He shivers, and stares around. What the hell is going on? Oh, ugh. Waking up in an unfamiliar -no, familiar?- place, sick and freezing and for some inexplicable reason scared shitless is not a good experience. He shakily gets to his feet, and stumbles into the nearest tree, to catch his weight against.

Well...shit. This isn't good. With stiff, numb fingers he takes his mobile out of his pocket and tries to dial Souji. Because, hey, if anyone will know what to do in a situation like this, it'll be that guy.

"C'mon, pick up...u-urk. Hurry, pick up. Pick up, pick up, pick up."

If Ciel Phantomhive weren't such a terrible sentimentalist (he'll deny it, but it's true), he would have known better than to trust his Aunt with his deepest, most precious secret: the location of the keys to the black Jaguar convertible, the object of Break's fond affections for many months.

Of course, it hadn't been so easy to get Madam Red to divulge her information; in the end Break had to assure her (over and over) that he intended nothing but mischief, and lots of it.

Now he's beating a hasty getaway from the Phantomhive estate, and... just... by chance swinging by the baseball diamond. It's not far, and besides: who knows if Lady Sharon might turn up again? It's not the sort of thing he's hoping for, because hoping is pointless, there haven't been any new arrivals for a while, and besides it's wrong to hope that she'd turn up in a place like this, but... Well. Anyway. He is just going to check. And then he'll be on his way.

He's out of the car and trotting onto the diamond when - he hears Yosuke's voice before he actually sees him.

Poke. Poke poke. Poke.

That's the end of Break's cane, jabbing between your shoulder blades, Yosuke, as you bend over your NV.

"Well, I saaaaaaaaay~! Like a bad penny, right?"

Yosuke drops his mobile and spins, squeaking and jumping back at the same time. It's a very agile move, but a bit too much for his dizzy head. He stumbles, and lands in a shaky heap at Break's feet. What the...?

He glances up, holding his head and wincing a bit. He doesn't know this scary clown man, does he? And yet, the face is familiar. Yosuke swallows his gorge, and reluctantly gets to his feet again. It wouldn't be good to stay down if this is an enemy. Though somehow, he gets the feeling it isn't. In fact, he associates the man with pastry for some reason.

"Wha-huh? I...I don't have any change."
maddeninghatter: (you don't say)

[personal profile] maddeninghatter 2012-11-27 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Smooth, very smooth.

"That's hardly surprising. You'll have to ask Gilbert for a raise."

Break pats Yosuke's shoulder and straightens his--er, he'd been reaching reflexively for a tie, but--

What are those things around his neck? He'd wondered the first time he'd seen Yosuke, but had never asked; and then he hadn't seen the boy again, and so it never came up. Well, he'll just... straighten them. Right.

"So--"

This is where a normal person would inquire after Yosuke's health, or welcome him back, or make any number of sympathetic inquiries.

"How did you manage it, getting back? You said you didn't want to go in the first place - which I never understood, but anyway - were you able to do something?"

[personal profile] inthejunk 2012-11-27 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yosuke blinks down at his headphones, which the clown man...Break? That's not a name, it can't be that-is straightening. Huh. That's weird, but it seems friendly.

He rubs his head again uncertainly. But one of those words brings up images of a tall, handsome man with cloak billowing and guns blazing, raven-haired and serene in battle.

No, wait. Wearing an apron and trying to make mochi, focused intently on the task.

No. Sick in bed. In a hospital? Giving a bit of gelatine a horrified look.

He's some sort of hero. Almost Souji-like, maybe. Yosuke's cheeks flush a bit. Gilbert. Yeah, he remembers Gilbert. But how? And where the hell is he? What's going on?

"Is this television?"

The sort of question that comes off as 'am I on candid camera?' to most, but would mean something else entirely to a shadow, or a persona user.
maddeninghatter: (smarmy)

[personal profile] maddeninghatter 2012-11-27 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Xerxes Break is a man of many talents, but fortunately mind-reading isn't one of them. His lungs are in precarious enough shape that he probably could laugh himself to death.

Instead, he peers at Yosuke, clearly puzzled.

"Hmm~?"

Break's experience of television is limited to Road Runner cartoons, and the romantic comedies he'd listened to whilst keeping Lady Sharon company during her brief stay at Siren's Port. This last is a fond, yet wistful memory, and he somehow has managed to avoid - well, not avoid, he wouldn't admit to that - managed to be too busy to spend much time in the TV room at Phantomhive.

But in any case, Yosuke seems confused. Which means he's simply disoriented from the effects of the Pull, or--

"Are you the same you that you were when you left us, or are you a different you?"
inthejunk: (chump change and it's on)

[personal profile] inthejunk 2012-11-27 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
"What?" That question makes the dizziness even worse, somehow. Yosuke grabs the tree again and groans. "I don't know what you're asking me, Mr. Break."

Though its obvious the other man finds Yosuke's misery sort of humorous. Somehow, that feels familiar too. This guy is probably kind of a jerk.

"Oooh, man. I think I'm gonna hurl. Where's my Dad? I kinda want to -"

He swallows. Lie down, maybe? Play with the giraffe? No. No, that one is definitely insane. Great. He's losing his freaking mind. Damn it.

"Did I hit my head?"
