All things considered (the power being out, which means the elevator didn't work - which was painfully ironic considering Harry hated that elevator but would have rather been subject to its mercy than that of the stairwell with a bad leg), he makes it outside without much fanfare. The authorities are busy, and he's managed to dodge the one or two who noticed that his NV didn't run on batteries and thus was considered an "asset in time of crisis". Haha, no. That was his only method of keeping in touch with John.

Keeping a distance from the police (who, by then, had cordoned off the area and set up camp) and the growing animosity that hovered in the distance (seriously, he might have been without magic, but he wasn't blind), Harry kept the weight off his bag leg and readjusted the bag's strap where it lay across his chest. The moment he catches sight of John, he sticks his thumb out -- christ, he's playing hitchhiker in a time like this. At least his eyes look serious enough.

"Soooooo -- you going my way?" Ah, but there's that cheek of his.
