Well there was an incorrect assumption - not even about Hattie, but Ella'd told everyone who even saw what happened that it wasn't Eponine's fault, never once mentioned that the girl attempted to rob her and defended her when Dorian badmouthed her. But hey, it's not like Eponine knew any of that.
