Who do you work for???!!
Who: Hitsugaya Toushirou and Hattie of Evhenn
When: February 21st, 4pm
Where: Toushirou's house
Summary: Questions need answering. This is a job for Bat-Hattie!
Warnings: Will update if neccessary.
It's been brewing around in her head for weeks. Hattie simply couldn't understand; she couldn't wrap her head around it.
Why would a cold person like Hitsugaya help Eponine? Could it be that he didn't know she was associated with Hattie? Did it have something to do with captain's honor? And not only that, what was going on with the house?
At first Hattie had just ignored the nagging questions, deciding that it wasn't important. But in the light of Eponine having her debt paid off in just two more days, it was that that made Hattie decide that she had to have those questions answered.
So after work, instead of heading back to the household, she sucked it up and had her driver take her to the icy Captain's home and confront him about the matter. And, of course, there are no chocolates today. Just a fashionable blonde in combination of modern white and black attire, most notably a white winter coat that goes down to her knees, a white hat fitted with fresh flowers and trendy sunglasses.
Her heels click clack all the way up to the doorway, where she finally rings the doorbell.
[OOC: Either Action or Prose is ok.]

Lazy thing. But she was a cat; what else could be expected?
Well. What Hitsugaya certainly hadn't expected was Hattie at the door, though he covered any surprise perfectly. "What do you want?"
no subject
It is not easy biting back a smart-ass comment. It's almost against her nature, really.
"I think you know why I'm here," she replies as she takes off her sunglasses. "Or did you not get my voice message?"
no subject
"That one from weeks ago? I deleted it the moment I recognized your voice." Because like hell he'd wanted to hear from her about anything. He hadn't bothered listening to the whole message. "So explain yourself."
no subject
Just sigh.
"So is that why you did it? Did you save Eponine's life specifically to annoy me?"
no subject
... Is that what this is about? Does she really think he's that damned petty?
"Not everything is about you. I'm simply able to separate disliking someone from thinking they deserve to die. Like a rational person."
no subject
And right now, she is certain he's out to get her. Then again, she thinks most of Ella's friends are, though.
"Is that right? So if I were in Eponine's position, you would do the same?"
no subject
But even with that? "Surprisingly enough, I would. Not that I expect you to believe a word of this."
It isn't to say he'd never entertained the thought of killing her. He had. Shortly after figuring out Ella's curse and how Hattie abuses her through it. And it's not to say that he'd shed any tears, or feel any sadness if she were to die.
Shinigami, at the heart of it, are supposed to be impartial in these matters. And while he may have feelings and biases the same as any mortal, he usually does a damn good job of keeping those out of the way of his work.
"Is that all?"
no subject
".. Oh." The uncertainty's clear in her expression, but she doesn't write it off completely. She just doesn't know how to respond to it, nor sure what that means in the bigger picture.
When suddenly a lightbulb goes off. "Oh no, I'm not letting you gloss it over that easily. I do believe you actually. I just don't think you would have wanted to. Right?"
no subject
"No. But in such a situation, my wants are irrelevant. You learn a measure of impartiality, when you work for Death."
Shinigami are not judges. They don't decide where a soul goes, only ensure that it's able to get there. The impartiality even has to extend to people they do like. But this is about as far into detail as he'll explain shinigami to Hattie. It's not his job to educate her.

[Work for death? Is he trying to intimidate her? .. No, that can't be right, from what little she understood about Nelliel, his job likely does involve.. Uh.. Something like that. She supposed. It was a possibility. She'd accept that for now, because instead she suddenly grins and points at him.]
Ah-HA!! I knew it! I knew I'd get you to say it!
[She's far too proud.]
You know, around Christmas, when Ella was doing the holiday charity? I donated, you know. I told Ella I would. And you know what she told me? She told me it didn't mean anything because I didn't really want to do it!
[Then she goes from proud to angry.]
Now she wants nothing to do with me!! You and I are the same! What makes you so special??
no subject
"You and and I are far from the same. And as I recall, she hadn't wanted anything to do with you in the first place. It's not a new development."
no subject
"Are you saying just because she and I have bad history, everything I do is invalid? That I shouldn't waste my time doing anything positive? Who the hell are you? I'm her family!"
no subject
Honestly, this is just getting tiresome. Why should he be surprised that she'd just come over here to yell at him? "From the way you've treated her, you certainly don't act like you are. Is there anything else you'd care to lecture me on, or are we done?"
In other words: you have ten seconds to bring up something new before he shuts the door in your face.

It takes Hattie a moment to realize that she had veered off-track due to her short temper. Sensing that he isn't going to put up with it much longer, she takes in a deep breath in an attempt to calm herself.
It.. Mostly works.
"Just one more thing," she mumbles, her face flushed. "I was wondering if you knew anything about the house. Sometimes people leave some sort of 'will' behind before they go, and I hadn't seen anything."
