As soon as he was done with his little impromptu speech, he was plucking up a fork again, spearing a bit of food and shoving it in his mouth, chewing slowly and thoughtfully, distracting himself by rooting through all the flavors on his tongue, picking apart the symphony in order to identify each instrument that was a part of it through pure sound alone. Or in this case, picking out individual flavors. Oddly enough, the distraction was oddly soothing. Enough to calm his mind down as Rose spoke, so he could actually listen to what it is she had to say.
"When I regenerate," he swallowed the little clump of food he was speaking around, putting the fork down again and leaning forward onto crossed arms, shoulders shrugged up towards his ears. Another heavy breath escaped him in a rush. "... When I regenerate, its like dying. Everything I am now dies. Ceases to be. I change, and some new man goes sauntering off with the life I was supposed to be living," one of his hands reached up, rubbing at the back of his neck. "It was like that before, too. The regeneration you saw. I knew I was going to die... but then, at least, I was alright with it," he chanced a grin at her, then. A wary little thing. "Meant you were going to go sauntering off right with me, at least."
But, he puffed out his cheeks, getting back down tot he serious part of their talk. The part that needed to happen. "The future isn't fully linear, Rose. Just because there's a future Doctor here, doesn't mean I can't die and die for good. This place in and of itself is a disruption to the natural time stream. By simply being here, it could have created an entirely separate chain of events, different from whatever that Doctor has dealt with in his past," he chewed on his tongue for a moment, mulling something else over. "The Master is just... a feeling I have. Something about it just makes sense. Like he's a sort of harbinger..."
