Who:Rachel Berry and Finn Hudson
When: 2/1
Where: Finn's place
Summary: A date.
Warnings: ~romance
Since she'd first wound up coming to Canada, Rachel hadn't thought too much about what she was going to do with or without a boyfriend or anything like that. The things that seemed the most important to her were the things that had always been her constants-- writing and singing and practicing for hours until her chest ached and her arms and legs were shaking from all of the extra work. In fact, part of her believed (and would, regardless of what anyone else said to her) that being there was something of a gift-- a chance to do all of this practicing without having to pay the price of time-- she could do it all and not have it take away from anything she was doing back home.
Of course she wasn't sure how it was going to work when she got home-- how much of this place, if any, she would remember. It just helped her to think that she was right and that there was some kind of purpose to being here at all.
Unfortunately- or fortunately- a Finn sized wrench had been thrown into the mix here, and it hadn't mattered how much time there had been since the last time she'd seen him, it felt like all of those feelings had come rushing back; all of the time they'd spent together and all of that time that he'd spent away from her, too. When she'd thought that she had it all worked out, at least in her mind, Finn had gone and told her that he loved her.
It had been kind of perfect, actually. She didn't have a single complaint about that (and it was unusual, since she usually did have something to complain about in every situation) or how it had made her feel (like a million dollars, really). It was exactly what she'd always thought of when she thought of her great teenaged love.
Actually, that was how she found herself standing outside of Finn's place, her hair styled carefully and wearing the nicest thing she owned-- she'd even put on her lip gloss for this, because Finn said that they were going to be having a date. A dinner date, even. He was going to cook and she was just going to... show up. Had shown up, actually, as she knocked on the door and waited for him.
It was a little bit of a twist on Breadsticks and her bedroom, but she definitely mind that at all. This was more romantic and much more grown-up, and... it was perfect. Very mature and it echoed how she felt in this place.

There was definitely nothing wrong with that, if Finn had been having troubles sleeping or nightmares or had been worrying about her at night, he should have said. She definitely would have tried to find some kind of solution for him.
The idea that maybe she would be able to help him sleep was definitely not unwelcome. Rachel had been looking for something to connect her even closer with Finn, to make them grow closer as a couple, and especially now that they were going to live together.
"That sounds great, Finn. I'm sure I'll feel much safer here with you, too. I know you would protect me."
Her dads had always told her that it was important for a man to feel needed and manly, and Finn was usually that kind of guy who needed to hear it sometimes.

"I mean, I know you have Kurt and Blaine and everything, and I know they wouldn't let anything happen to you but I'd just feel better if you were here with me, you know? Sure, the building is darkness proofed or whatever they call it but--" He let his words trail off and he shrugged, clearing off about half of his plate before he even looked at Rachel again.
And then it was back to pushing his food back and forth across his plate. But then he dropped his fork and got up to go to the cupboard, grabbing two glasses. "I know that it's never been a problem for you or anything, but I don't want you to do anything that you don't want to, okay?"

So yes, she felt safe with Kurt and Blaine and knew that they would protect her and always keep her safe when they could, but... but Finn was different. Finn was her knight in shining armour. Her other half and all of that. He would keep her safe because he loved her and he was the person that she was meant to be with forever. So she knew that no matter what happened between them, he would always protect her.
Watching Finn as he got up and grabbed two glasses, Rachel took a few more bites of her food and leaned forward to rest her chin on her hand.
"I never do anything I don't want to do, Finn... I'm too much of a star to do anything that I don't want. I always know what I want."

Imagine how stupid and disappointed he felt when he found out that Wicked wasn't a Star Wars musical. That's something he might have actually stayed awake for.
He may not always come to her rescue where words were involved, he may let her fight her own battles too often and side with the wrong people (often coming to her aid when they were alone), but he would protect her from what he could. Whether they were together or not, she would always have Finn to protect her.
"I just mean, like, inviting you to stay with me tonight isn't some kinda way to pressure you into anything, you know?" He paused long enough to look through the fridge. He settled on just filling both glasses with water, though, before returning to the table with both and sitting back down. "Like I said, I know you don't do anything you don't want to because you're really strong willed or whatever, and I think that's really awesome about you, but I just wanted you to know, I guess."

But it just cemented the idea that Rachel had been insisting on since she'd even had the first point of view that she wanted to be with Finn for the rest of her life. He was different than other guys. Different from them in all kinds of ways, which was only fitting since Rachel wasn't the kind of girl who liked all of the same things as other girls that she knew.
Finn was special and it was perfect because Rachel was definitely special and they were supposed to be special together. Him trying to reassure her just reminded her of that and so she just smiled a little and nodded. She hadn't made any decision at all, but it was good to know she had all the time she needed.
"I know, I'm stronger than most girls and smarter and more special and that's why I'm with you, Finn. You get that. You don't have to worry, though. I know what I want."
no subject
"You're more special than anyone I know, Rachel, and that's part of the reason why I love you so much. And you're really smart and you know what you want and you don't let anyone push you to do anything and I love that about you."
But he still had to wonder just what she did want.
no subject
"You're all of those things too, Finn. Smart and special and important. That's part of why I love you so much-- because you're like me. That's how I know you're my guy."
Sure of herself now, Rachel plants one hand on his chest and stands on her tiptoes to brush her lips lightly against his before falling back to her heels again.
"Even here, you're the best guy."
no subject
He just didn't believe what she was saying. He wasn't really that smart (he was barely passing enough classes to keep him on the football team), he'd never be special in the way that Rachel was and as far as important went? That was open to interpretation.
Closing his eyes when her lips touched his, Finn couldn't help the smile. A real smile this time. "I love you, Rachel." There was no one else for him. It may have taken him a little longer than it should have for him to realize that, but she was. He leaned down to press his lips to hers, continuing the kiss that he felt she ended just a little too soon.

"I love you too, Finn," she murmured softly against his lips, wrapping her arms around him and pressing close.
Now that she was thinking about it, she couldn't help but wonder what made Finn special here-- what his powers were. She hadn't figured her own out, yet, but she just kind of figured that she was special enough even without any.

Either way, those things didn't make him feel special. If anything did, it was being with Rachel. That she was letting him love her was what made him feel special. Even just being in her life made him feel special.
Finn ended the kiss with a smile, resting his forehead against hers. He hadn't really thought about the whole powers thing in terms of, well, him. Not that it mattered. If it happened, it happened. It didn't really seem like there was too much he could do about it. He's just have to cross that bridge when he got to it. "Maybe we should finish our dinner or something. It's kinda getting cold now."
no subject
"You know, great conversation can be distracting sometimes and I'm really great conversationalist."
Shifting a little, she took another bite of her food-- Finn was right, it was getting cold. Actually, now that she was thinking about it, Rachel was curious if that was her power. Knowing when people are special and right about things...
But that couldn't be it. She was going to have a power that was better than that. She just had to figure it out, and ever since Santana had figured hers out... it had been on Rachel's mind.
"Finn... did you ever figure out what your powers are here?"

Moving his chair so it was closer to Rachel, Finn sat back down, pulling his plate and the glass of water in front of himself. He picked up his fork and started to eat again as he thought about her question. The food wasn't nearly as good now that it was cold, so he stopped eating and instead settled for tapping his fork against the edge of his plate. Maybe he'd invest in a drum set once he actually managed to get a job...
"I don't think so. Or maybe it's just something that isn't really noticeable or... something."
no subject
Actually, she was kind of thinking it might be awesome if their powers matched. She hadn't heard of anyone else around here who had powers that matched (not that she'd looked very hard or anything, but still).
