Old habits die hard...
Who: Eponine and anyone who happens upon her
When: May 21st
Where: Sector 5
Summary: Eponine, terrified that the luxury of the newcomers' apartments will be snatched away from her, is up to her old tricks. She's found the richest area of town she could, and is on the look out for anyone she can pickpocket or who would be interested in 'entertainment'.
Warnings: Eponine will try her best to pick your pockets. So, I guess, if you're the type to swear... language?
Eponine had been in Sirens Port for a few days now. She didn't really understand what had happened, how she'd ended up here, or why. Or really, where here was.
But in her opinion, ANYWHERE was better than France. Especially when that 'anywhere' provided her with the most luxurious room she had ever had all to herself, AND gave her food. It was more than Eponine had ever dared to dream would become a reality for herself.
But Eponine was all too aware that dreams ended. And she was determined, that when this dream ended, she wouldn't be thrown back into a nightmare empty handed.
Which was why she was stood in the shadows of Region 5. After exploring, she had determined that this was a more affluent area of town, and the people here more likely to be carrying valuables. She stood, waiting patiently, for a target to walk past. And then, on silent feet, and with a featherlight touch, Eponine would be pushing her hand into their pockets to take anything she could.
((ooc: So Eponine is pickpocketing. Feel free to catch her nicking your stuff; I have an open-write policy, so I will go with whatever you dream up for her!))

no worries!
"Satsuma is a fruit. People eat them for New Years. They're lucky, I guess. Or else because that's when winter fruit is in season, and people wanted an excuse to celebrate it. Uh, and melon soda is just how it sounds."
Re: no worries!
She wondered why people celebrated on new year. She had never celebrated, barely knew when it was. But she dudn't explain any of this.
She didn't explain, either, that she had never heard of either melon or soda until he mentioned them, and she couldn't imagine what they were. But, she already felt ignorant, and so refused to question further.
She walked in silence, trying to support his weight as much as possible.
Re: no worries!
"We turn here."
Re: no worries!
"When I was little, we had an inn. Not a big grand one, but we had lots of business and a big fire and a dog. And at Christmas, we had trout. Trout stuffed with all sorts of things, and in a rich sauce so thick it was almost soup. And we had fruit cake and marzipan and an apple that my mother had saved for us. It was the most delicious meal I ever ate."
She talks to try to keep his mind off how ill he felt. It was a tactic she had often used herself, and it never failed.
Re: no worries!
"Just up there. You probably live there too, right?" Yosuke pointed out, as they neared the lone tower.
Re: no worries!
"Yes. Isn't it lovely? I've never had a whole room all for me. And a bed - a bed. With real covers and a pillow and -"
She stopped, embarrassed. She should not have allowed herself to sound so eager about any of that stuff.
"I mean..." Actually, she doesn't know what she means. Or how to turn this around. "I mean, it's so different to France."
Re: no worries!
"I have two bedrooms in mine. One of them I gave to a friend. And then he brought another friend who lives on the couch I guess. I never asked."
Re: no worries!
"I think it'd be nice to live with your friends. Though perhaps your friend's friend should buy a bed. He could put it in one of your rooms. At my house, I slept in the same room as my parents and my brothers and sister."
And then Mme. Thenarduer got rid if all of the boys, and Azmaela... Well, she was no bother. What she's trying to say is that it's not strange for lots of people to share 1 room.
"We're here. Do you live high up?" she tried to open the door and support him at the same time.
Re: no worries!
"Sorry to make you work so hard." He chooses not to comment on Smelly Kid putting a bed in Keigo's room. That's not the sort of thing to rant about in front of a lady, after all.
Re: no worries!
"We can rest at each floor. Sit on the stairs and catch our breath." she tries to make it sound as if its not just for his benefit.
She grins though. "Monsieur, this is not hard work. This is a pleasure."
Re: no worries!
Re: no worries!
She's not lying either. She is enjoying Yosuke's company, and she does want to make sure he's okay. Perhaps - perhaps, they could be friends? But no - she's fairly certain that he's a customer. But maybe a gentle one... maybe she won't fleece him...
"Shall we go up? We can go slowly if you want."
Re: no worries!
Re: no worries!
She slips inside, and nods towards the stairs.
"Why is everyone so scared of the night? I like night time. I like walking then..."
Re: no worries!
Please tell me you haven't tried that here? It's really dangerous. There are demons and weird creatures and dangerous things that come out at night.
Re: no worries!
Demons? You believe in demons? Perhaps I am a danger that comes out at night? I know I am part devil.
Re: no worries!
[Normally, he'd banter playfully back and forth with her, but this is definitely a problem.]
One of them tried to eat me once. And there was something in it's fangs. I got sick a few days later, and a friend had to heal me. You definitely don't want to go out alone at night here, okay?
Re: no worries!
She looks at him sceptically. Is he drunk? He doesn't seem drunk...But demons aren't real. She tries to adopt a comforting tone, but she doesn't really know what a comforting tone is, so she probably sounds as matter-of-fact as usual.
"I saw the same thing once. It was when we lived under the bridge and the snow was falling, and we had had just a rat for days... and I saw a demon come, and his eyes glowed red, and he bent down at my toes, and began to nibble, and he nibbled at my knees, and my hair, and my face and everything... but it was not a demon really. Just rats. So you see. Perhaps you were so hungry you saw monsters where really, there were just rats."
Re: no worries!
He'll be right with you, Eponine...
Re: no worries!
She runs after him, and catches up just in time to see him vomit. She stops short. Not out of disgust, but more because she knows that she herself prefers some distance when she's ill. When he stops, she approaches.
"I am sorry, monsieur. That was my fault. Shall we sit down a moment? Let your insides settle?"
Re: no worries!
Yosuke waits a second to make sure he's finished, then kicks a bit of loose dirt over the puddle and takes a slightly dejected seat on the curb. So much for making a good impression.
"No, it's okay. I was feeling kind of seasick anyway. My head's been turning all day."
Re: no worries!
"It is nothing to be ashamed of. I should not have told you of the rats..."
She fades into silence as she watches him. He does look nice - younger than Marius, but he has that innocent look in his eyes, or at least, she thinks he does. And such lovely hair.
"Tell me when you feel better, and we shall go up stairs."
Re: no worries!
For a few minutes he sits there quietly, breathing in the fresh air and trying to calm his insides and also his nerves. If she wasn't interested, she would have definitely left by now, right? Especially considering she's just seen him at his worst. So he still has a chance, if he doesn't blow it.
He nods at her, and gets to his feet. "I'd really like to brush my teeth now, so I guess we'd better get going."
Re: no worries!
"We will go slowly. And talk of pleasant things. Like.. Is there a seaside here? I have always wanted to see the sea and the sand."
Re: no worries!
This conversation is much better. Yosuke daydreams contently about sand and sun while they climb the first flight of stairs, though he pauses to lean briefly against the wall for a rest at the top of it.
