Good bishops help people
Who: Frau and Teito
When: June 3
Where: Teito's hospital room
Summary: Frau has to be bishopy to help Teito recover from the illness
Warnings: Frau being his usual self
Ever since Chuck had made Frau face some of his guilt he'd started feeling better. Not 100%, but better. That had prompted him to look into the illness more, which led him to the understanding of what had caused it. Unfortunately that made Frau pretty sure he may not ever fully recover. For now though, he was at least alright. Teito, however, was still ill, and Frau wasn't going to let that continue.
So, being the good bishop that he was, he headed off to Teito's room to help talk him through the guilt. What was the perfect way to start? By throwing a pillow at his sleeping apprentice's head.
"Wakey, wakey, damn brat.

That was his biggest fear - that the Father, that his guards, had sacrificed so very much for him, had tried to sooth their loss with smiles and words that hurt as much as they made him smile in memory of them...
And it was all for nothing.
What if they hadn't gotten all of their wishes? Would they have to be reborn and start all over? They'd died for his freedom, to protect him, and yet he'd still been taken as a slave, made into a soldier.
His soul was tarnished the darkest black because of the blood that covered his hands. Enough so that he feared facing them again.
He'd be such a disappointment for them all.

He smiled for a moment and bumped his shoulder against Teito's in quiet reassurance.
"Somehow I think they did achieve all three though."
Frau truly believed that. While his belief in God was sketchy, he had more faith in him for other people. Besides, Frau knew Teito. He was worth dying for.

His voice cracked and faded before he drew a shaky breath, then glanced up at Frau, verdant eyes haunted.
"I was too weak from using the Eye already. All it could do was let me watch as Major Hyuuga killed them both. Ayanami killed my Dad, father, and Mikage; Major Hyuuga killed Mark and Karan... and Princess Ouka killed Agas though she didn't want to fight anymore.
Raphael did it... and I just watched it all. I was there, all this time, with them and never avenged any of them."

It was why Frau was smiling too. Teito was simply worth that even if he didn't see it himself.
"And you have avenged them, Teito. You're alive, you walked forward in your life, and you've set a goal for yourself that any of them would be proud of. They gave you that opportunity, and you're using it well. More importantly, they've made you who you are."
As he had with Mikage awhile ago, he tapped Teito on the chest, over his heart.
"They're all in here."

Because Frau was right.
If he closed his eyes, he could see their smiles and their laughter and the warmth in their eyes that gave proof to the man's reminder, despite the sharp pang of loss the very same sight cut into him every time.
And by focusing on that, by remembering the words each one of those precious voices had said to him, last words of encouragement and of love, he felt the dizzy, nauseous feeling fade a little bit more. "...I just wish people would stop trying to take these precious memories away from me."
Opening his eyes, he smiled up at Frau. It was a tired smile beneath red-limned eyes, but suffused with his innate warmth and sincerity once again. "But so long as I'm allowed, I'll remember them that way and walk the path that'll continue to make them... and you... proud. I just remembered that that's my resolve now, Frau."

"Good. I know you will."

It'd been quieter after his roommate and his friend had left, and really... he just didn't want to be there anymore.
He was beginning to really hate hospitals.
"Hey, Frau? So how much longer do I have to stay here? Can't I come home soon?"
no subject
Frau grinned, taunting Teito on purpose. If he got a good response he would know that the kid was back to his usual self. Frau hoped that was the case too. He wanted Teito home with him again.

The protest was swift and automatic - as was the glare that he shot Frau’s way, right before he scrambled out from beneath the blankets, nearly tripping in his haste. Unfortunately for him, he was still a little weak and stumbled a bit. But. He didn’t fall. Instead, he stumbled over to the cabinet where his clothes had been left stashed away. “Just... gimme a minute to change. I’m really ready to get out of here. I think I’ve had enough of hospitals.”
no subject
"I'll wait for you out there. Join me when you're ready."

He stepped out into the hall and glanced around for Frau... then marched right over to the man and kicked him in the shin.
"The nurses have been kind to me, Frau. Quit flirting with them."
no subject
Frau glowered down at Teito. He'd been enjoying a rather nice chat with the nurses and Teito just had to show up and ruin it. Frau should kick his butt for that.
no subject
"Did he tell you that he's a Bishop of the Church too? Because I think that one's pretty important."
Rather than wait for an answer, he turned to go at that, quite determined to make it out of there before anyone tried to shove him back into a hospital bed. Again.
no subject
"Don't get too far ahead you stupid brat."
no subject
"So... Why do you suppose I'm feel better all of a sudden?"
He really wasn't connecting their earlier conversation to his loss of symptoms from the illness.
no subject
Frau shrugged. He didn't really want to believe something like that was possible, but it did seem to fit. Besides, it was somewhat like the symptoms someone had after they were possessed by a kor.
