The setup is probably more elaborate than anticipated. Jesse's paying for it all out-of-pocket, but as he has a drug dealer's income, he's splurged on all the best stuff.

The food includes everything that everyone suggested on his post. Hotdogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, pizza, chips, cookies, cake... There's an open bar for all the alcoholic drinks and a table with coolers for all the rest.

The music is selected by your host, Jesse, who's also the main DJ for the event. That guarantees a selection of varying quality that focuses heavily on hip-hop, rap, and dubstep. It's not always kid-friendly, but it's good for dancing.

General entertainment comes in the form of swimming, beach volleyball, a bonfire as the sun begins to set (including s'mores!), and a huge fireworks display just before sirens.

Security is being handled by Jesse's goons. You didn't think he'd host a Newcomer party without them, right? They're armed and much stronger than he is, so don't mess. A few healers are also on hand for first-aid.

Transportation back to the Tower Apartments via shuttle is also provided at the end of the night. (He really splurged.)

"Mermaids live in the water."

Just so you know. Not in sandcastles.

She glances at him, clearly gutted at the short reply.

"It is fantasy, Monsieur. Just pretend. You never do this?"

Yosuke frowns at that, and shrugs. He pretends things all the time, but not out loud. People would think it was too weird, at his age.

"Can you still imagine mermaids if they're real here, though?"

"Why not? Pretence is sometimes better than reality, is it not, Yosuke?"

Eponine's a firm believer in imagination. It was what had saved her those nights in Paris when her stomach growled from lack of food, and her bones ached from her physical ordeals and her heart pined for Marius.

"Do you never pretend and imagine? Not even things that you know cannot be?"

"It's not something that people do."

Okay, so he liked to imagine himself as a surgeon when he was volunteering at the hospital. And the open mic night he was working on was a great way to play rockstar. But Jondrette-San didn't need to know so.

"Then I must not be a person."

She keeps her tone light, but she's actually really offended. Imagination has saved Eponine's life several times by now.

Naturally, Yosuke fails to notice this. He splashes some water, apparently fascinated by it. Then he leans forward until he's nearly covered in it up to his chest.

"I wonder if there are monster fish in here?"

"Yes there are. With three eyes and teeth to bite. And they lurk in the shadows waiting for drunk teenagers to sit down. And then they feast."

She splashed water at Yosuke.

"Why three eyes?" Yosuke hiccoughs, but he seems amused by Eponine's fancies at least. He doesn't even object to being splashed, just gurgles for a second and clumsily splashes a bit back at her.

"Argh! Yes. Three eyes and teeth and a funny upturned nose." She shrieks, but there's joy in it. Never has she been splashed by sea water before. It's kind of... exhilerating. She splashes again, and then stops.

"It tastes funny. Not like water."

"Mhm. Don't drink it. Gonna make yourself sick. "

This water makes you sick?

[She glances over at him] Are you feeling better yet, Monsieur?

[Because she has a way of combatting drunken-ness - but it does involve Yosuke getting very wet very suddenly]

I feel great.

[Or at least he's enjoying the company. She probably won't let him drown, either. Which is good.]

Well, come on then!

[She's waded into the sea, holding her skirts up out of the water, and is now trying to jump over the waves breaking, and laughing madly as she ends up soaked]

Hey! Hey, wait don't...you can't swim right?

['Cause normally he'd save you Eponine, but at the moment he'd probably just drown both of them by mistake.]

No...

[She comes back reluctantly] Bet I could if I tried though. Can you?

Uh. Yeah, but...

[Aw, jeez. She seems so interested too.]

Hey, I'll take you swimming, okay? Just-just not today. I'm a little, uh.

[Drunk.]

Tired. Y'know?

She laughs.

"Yes. Tired... Perhaps you should sleep, Monsieur?"

"Yeah...I think I might do that, soon."

I might sleep here tonight. On the beach. I miss the stars.

[And has completely forgotten about monsters]

Splash, gurgle, flail!

"No! N'n'n'n'no missy, if you wanna die then don't announce your plans! I'm not gonna let you do that."

Hiccough, groan.

"Maaan, you made me swallow some."

"YOSUKE!"

She splashes after him, and bends down to make sure he's okay.

"Will you be sick now?"

This is getting to be a really bad habit.

"I do not want to die. I like it here."

He didn't swallow enough to get sick from, he's pretty sure. But that's not really the big concern here anyway. Eponine is a very upsetting girl at times, though she doesn't seem to know it.

"I told you, there's things out here! In the dark. They tear people apart. You can't, arright? Just go home and sleep there like a good girl."

"Ah yes. The monsters."

Eponine sits down quite happily in the shallows, drenched, but enjoying the splashing.

"That is the bad thing about here. I miss sleeping outside. I like to see the stars."

"One day when I get strong, 'k?"

It's a promise, though it probably comes across as gibberish. He won't ever be confident enough to let her sleep outside, maybe. But he can stand guard some day while she has a quick peek at the stars, anyway.
