Who: Xigbar (
madannoshashu) & Master Xehanort (
capax_infiniti)
When: Backdated to July 6th, early morning.
Where: The Underground @ Hideaway Lake.
Summary: The once-and-future minion approaches the elder master. They have a lot to catch up on.
Warnings: Words.DARKNESS. These two being themselves.
[ This isn't a trip he wants to make.
Regardless of what Vanitas says, there's always the chance the old man does remember. He's clever enough to pretend not to, though he wouldn't expect Vanitas to be able to detect such subterfuge. Granted, such a tactic wouldn't do much good, especially here, but given how they last parted, Xigbar has every reason to want to be cautious.
The longer he waits, though, the more dangerous things will become. Instead of allowing the old man the chance to happen across his name or face, it's better to take the initiative.
So he does. He attunes his senses to that oh-so-familiar darkness and seeks it out. It takes time, but eventually, he finds it, tucked away in a niche of the Underground.
A dark portal appears a few yards away from the old man, and as he steps out of the inky blackness, he sees a familiar silhouette poised near the edge of the lake. Hood up, he waits to be acknowledged. ]

No matter. At some point the Light would be drawn to him. It was an inevitability. With darkness as deep as his, a mobile antipode in an attempt to balance out the overblinding light, any pure being would eventually take notice... and possibly affront.]
Of course. If there doesn't appear to be one, sometimes one must make their own.
[He's a master at that, of forging and weaving threads and paving his own way through possibilities and what-ifs. There's very little he doesn't account for, and switching tracks is something he's learned to be quite good at as circumstances change and events unfold. In this place, he has to rebuild, but at least the way is becoming much more clear.]
Is there anything else you would consider of note?
[A bit more fishing, to see just how much more useful Xigbar is than Vanitas.]

There are people here who'll recognize you -- Keyblade wielders from my time and others from different worlds.
The Darkness here is like decay, and its creatures are said to be lost souls -- the dead left over from some catastrophe years ago.
[ He pauses, his head lifting just slightly. ]
There's something I'd like to show you.

[A bit of a scowl. He doesn't like the idea of people already having opinions of him. Especially negative ones, as he's sure they do. It makes things harder. Not impossible, just harder. Requiring a great deal more proposed penance and niceties and very subtle work.
He's not opposed to working hard. The end result is more than worth it. The idea of a multitude of brats from all points of the timeline throwing themselves at him in pointless attempts to stop him is rather annoying due to the division of labour required to keep them at bay.
He'd rather lay low and work quietly and not have them know he's even there. That's far easier than anything else. Let them discover him in what way they wish. There's means of staying hidden while still interacting, after all.]
There is little reason for them to know I'm here. It's far more efficient to work without their pathetic attempts to halt what is already in progress.
[He's noticed that the darkness isn't quite what he's used to. It's less organic in that sense. This one doesn't respond to him as readily, and the beasts that dwell within it are beyond the scope of what he's seen in his time.]
This world has been scarred. Places like it exist, the heart damaged in some fashion so that it suffers maladies on a scale difficult to fathom. Whatever happened must have struck deep, indeed, to leave a mark so strong that even the darkness is polluted.
[He gazes at Xigbar, eyes boring through him once more. One hand raises up in a generous sweeping motion, indicating forward movement.]
Lead the way, then.

He doesn't respond to the rest, merely opens a portal and disappears into its depths. He expects the old man will follow, and upon arriving at the other side, he claps his hands twice. The lights flicker on, revealing an expansive lab with every modern convenience on might ask for. It's clean and well-kept, though clearly unused simply by the looks of it.
He starts to walk, gesturing as he does so. ]
When I first arrived here, I was presented with a few options. Be lazy and do nothing, try to start again from scratch, or work with existing powers.
I picked the last one. Afterglow, Inc., one of the two warring companies in this city, built the tower above this complex and later contributed to this.
[ He stops by one of the cages, golden, gimlet eyes peering out from the glowing bars. Shadows, courtesy of the departed "Ansem".
He looks at the old man. ]
I originally designed it with a certain colleague in mind, but if you want it, it's yours.

He takes a moment to look around, taking careful stock of everything he sees. Some of the amenities he's never even encountered before and it's fascinating. It's been a bit since he's gotten his hands directly into science, but it's something he could very easily take up again.
A low chuckle.] Opportunistic to the very end and then beyond. Taking advantage of what was already there was always your style. Interesting to see how some things haven't changed...
[Because a great deal in fact has, and it's plain to see. It's almost pleasing in a way to see how far Xigbar has come.]
I could make some use of it, if there isn't a need.

I do try, old man.
You'll have a little company -- these [ he motions at the Heartless ] and a few others.
[ He snaps his fingers, and almost immediately, a handful of spindly white creatures appears behind him. ]
They handle some of the security here. I'll make sure they know not to bother you.

These are..?
[Something rises to the back of his mind, but he holds his tongue, waiting for confirmation.]

[ He gestures at them briefly. ]
This type is known as Dusks.

A Heartless... and a Nobody.
Pififul creatures, to have no sense of the self outside of the most basic existence.
no subject
They are a little sad, aren't they?
[ Though Nobodies are capable of functioning on a higher level than their cousins, the purely instinctive Heartless, Dusks will never attain a sense of personhood like the more elite of the Organization.
He dismisses the Dusks with a brief hand motion. ]
It's only rarely that the cast off shell retains its shape and sense of self.

There's other means, and perhaps it is time to entertain those notions.]
