[Closed Log] Newcomer Hunt Round 2 at Spencer's Hunting Grounds

Who: Bigby Wolf, Chane Laforet, Conner Kent, Yosuke Hanamura, Larry Butz, Bruce Banner, Itou Kaiji, Jesse Turner, Bolin, Deadpool
NPC Hunters: Henry D. Spencer III, Beckah Platt, Ivanova Trumpah, Abram Trilt, Sherri Montgomery & Eddie Gumb
When: From 9am July 30th to Tuesday July 31st at dawn.
Where: Spencer's Hunting Grounds
Summary: Natives go "The Most Dangerous Game" on our newcomer heroes.
Warnings: Human Hunting, Sadism, Violence, Death! All that...good stuff.

This time, the hunt was a bit more personal, nasty, the challenge ramped up after the last newcomer hunt hadn't proven successful. But the Hunters knew what they were in for. And they'd signed the liability waivers. They assembled on the field, just beyond the front gates. These natives were allowed their choice of weapons, traps and personal gear, several thousand dollars less richer for the fee of taking this special safari.

As for the ten non-native 'game'? They waited in individual cages in the caverns and tunnels underground for the electronic latch to spring, hungry and hopefully ready to fight for their lives.

At noon, Spencer's lazy drawl crackled over an old PA system. Laconic and drawling with menace.

Load 'em up, boys and girls. Let's send these slugs back to wherever in hell they came from.

...and the hunt started off with the sound of an elephant gun, fired into the brush.

[OOC: Tagging order is totally open, and setting elements are varied. We fully intend there to be damage to the grounds. [ACTION] style logging is perfectly fine, considering how large a group this is, but prose style works too. Split up or group together! Threadhop and run into others if you want as well.

All of the hunted are outfitted with a tracking Microchip, which was embedded under the skin at the base of the neck, while they were still knocked out. The skin may itch slightly, but otherwise there are no visible signs that it is there. This will not completely nullify powers, but it will make the active use of them excruciatingly painful throughout the nervous system. Safe removal will only be successful by surgery, but the microchips will be deactivated by the end of the hunt.

Spencer will leer and gloat over the hunting grounds PA system, to inform all of his targets that they are fresh game to be hunted down and killed, and that this time, they're going to ensure no newcomer survivors with a 'nasty surprise' at evening siren. He will assure his prey that they have no chance of escape, and that even if they somehow manage to cross the high-voltage fences surrounding the grounds, he has a backup plan to ensure that they don't leave alive.

NVs will remain on your character's person, however wifi will be scrambled beyond the perimeter grounds, and they will not be able to access the newcomer network while on the grounds. They may, however contact each other via NV using voice function as a static-y walkie-talkie. NVs can pick up one another's internal signal at a maximum distance of 200 yards

Spencer himself will be overseeing most of the hunt as game warden from his security room at the lodge on property, where viewing screens show multiple cameras planted around the grounds and on a small fleet of cybernetic flying drones the size of a dragonfly.

At 9am, characters will be released by an automatic latch on their cage doors, into an underground labyrinth of tunnels and traps. They'll have to find each other, as well as forage for limited food and some basic weapons and survival gear, which the hunter will have planted near various traps and snares as 'bait'.

As described on the locations page, the grounds are extensive and the terrain is varied, engineered for a hunter's dream of a playground. Man made, it has elements of forest/jungle, sand traps, caves, a small lake, fields and other hiding places. It also has about 4 stories of underground tunnels, caves, bunkers, rooms with strange settings and endless paths one could take. It may take minutes or hours to run into the other hunted, but we encourage you to play paired in groups for an advantage against the odds. Go wild with playing your way through any setting obstacles you'd like your characters to face!

Spencer's voice will announce time remaining on the hour, over the audio system.

At sunset, Itou Kaiji will find and deactivate the timer which will detonate the release of deadly toxins from all microchips. This clock is located in a small locked shed near the southernmost point of the grounds.

The front gates of the property will be unlocked briefly after the first set of evening sirens, so the hunted and any surviving hunters will have exactly 10 minutes to get out and into the city, or be locked in for an additional overnight fight to survive.

If your character outlasts the hunt and is left to survive the night: The Hunting Grounds are haunted by the darkness mutations of all past game killed there. With the souls of great cats, rare exotic beasts gone savage chimera and former slaves with 'exotic' powers? The grounds are extra treacherous after siren.]

[Yosuke glances up, and freezes. Like if he holds still enough she won't see him. Like this is Mesozaic Park and the big T-Rex won't be able to see him and kill him if he just doesn't move. He makes a miserable, guttural sound. It's a woman. He's going to have to fight a woman. His father would be so disappointed.]

Don't do this...you don't need to do this.

mind if i cut in?

[The screaming, oh Spirits the screaming, it sends goose-hawk bumps up and down his arms and makes his hair stand on end. Bolin isn't sure when or how he got separated from the others, but he figures they're both capable enough. They'll be fine. He's not too worse for wear, really; his sleeve is ripped, and he's cut his palm on the stone wall somewhere along the way, but the stinging pain is barely a mosquito-gnat's irritation at the moment. In a way, the pain keeps him grounded, keeps his brain from flying off into some hideous nightmare fantasy of what was causing all the shrieking he could hear in the distance.

[He pauses in his steps then. The light is a little better here, but he's still relying on his ears more than his eyes. He can hear voices up ahead; one male, one female. The female voice sounds sharp, predatory, confident. Not a good sign. The male voice is thin, frightened--a newcomer confronted by one of the hunters, no doubt.

[Bolin isn't sure what to do now. His bending isn't gone, so far as he can tell, but for some reason every time he's tried to use it it causes him intense pain. Somehow that's almost worse. He can't not help this person, but what can he do against these armed, capable hunters? Bolin might be an athlete, but he's no warrior!

[He lingers around a corner, just out of sight, where he can listen to what's happening. Maybe an opportunity for him to do something useful will present itself. In the mean time, it's back to waiting for the right moment to strike. Wait and listen.]

Not at all!

[personal profile] newcomerhunt 2012-07-31 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[She's unaware of the other presence nearby, her focus centred on the pitiful kid before her. Begging now, is he? Disgraceful. But what else is there to be expected from a Newcomer?]

I think we disagree on this point, kid. [She slides out one of her knives at takes a few steps closer. No need to break out her power if the kid isn't fighting. She's not sadistic, like some of the others; she only bothers with what she needs to get the job done.]
inthejunk: (bristle)

fine by me too!

[personal profile] inthejunk 2012-08-01 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Yosuke springs to his feet and darts to one side. He's agile, and fast, much faster than most humans. He's also exhausted from fighting earlier, and from running. He grabs at a stitch in his side, and eyes the woman warily.]

I'm not a kid.

[The correction is automatic, any time a beautiful woman calls him one. He almost kicks himself for it this time, but whatever. She doesn't really seem like the nurturing type anyway. She probably wouldn't go any easier on him for his age anyway. Mothers don't go around gutting people, after all.]

[He has a set of kunai himself, but they aren't on him today. He's down to one shoe, no wallet, and he's ground down a few fingernails scratching his way out of the complex. He really is a pitiful sight at the moment.]

You're wasting your time, anyway. I died here once before, and I just came back. We're like cockroaches, you'll never kill us all.

[He had died here once before? Bolin shakes his head, confused. What did that mean? Wasn't death, you know, permanent? Or is that this person's power, to reincarnate?

[It doesn't matter--even if this boy could come back from the dead Bolin doesn't want to just let him die. He flexes his hands and then tightenes them into fists. It would hurt, it would hurt like hell, but he can still bend, and if this woman, this hunter, makes her move, he'll do it. Bolin isn't a fighter, really. Earthbending is fairly well-balanced, with strong offensive and defensive abilities both, but he takes no pleasure in hurting anyone, even people who may deserve it. He excels at defensive maneuvers, though, and is confident he can put up some sort of barrier to protect this other boy if the hunter struck. He can raise walls of earth quickly enough that hopefully the pain won't cripple him too long.

[So he waits and listens for the right moment. 'Don't worry, whoever you are; Bolin's got your back.']

[Oh, they all protest that. He's lucky she didn't call him a whiny brat. It's what he is, clearly.] That's never a guarantee.

[It's annoying, though, how Newcomers don't tend to stay dead. Why do they get that luxury, when people like her brother haven't? For that alone, they should die over and over again, as many times as it takes for it to stick.

[So he's got some life in him, does he? Well, she can fix that. She lifts a hand in his direction, and swiftly closes her palm, contracting the muscles in his legs in what's probably a very painful way.]
Down boy.

[The pain is sudden, and severe. Yosuke lets out a loud wail of pain, and it rings out around them. He has no choice but to obey the command, with his muscles refusing to work. He sinks like a stone dropped in water, faster than he can visually process he's face first on the ground, sweating and panting and whimpering. What the hell just happened? Oh, gods. What kind of crazy bitch is he even fighting? Nothing like this has ever happened to him before.]

[Though it probably doesn't count as fighting, with him on the ground that way. So he slowly, painfully, gets his good arm under himself and pushes up on it. His leg is a lost cause apparently, but at least he can rest on his backside instead of his face while he glares defiantly up at the woman and tries to come up with a plan. Maybe he can throw a rock at her and break her concentration long enough to get out of her grip...]

I guess we're done talking, then.
chiblockthat: (everybody was king fu fighting)

[Throw a rock? Bolin's way ahead of you. He still can't figure out why his bending hurts so much to use, but it doesn't matter. Whoever this woman is, she's obviously hurting this person, and he can't just stand by and let it happen. Taking a deep breath, Bolin flexes his hands, then focuses a moment before spinning around the corner.]

I don't think the talking is the problem here.

[Bracing himself, he clenches his jaw and makes a sweeping motion with his arms. Pain lances down his spine and spikes through his arms, but the earth beneath him heeds his call, kicking up a cloud of dust thick enough to obscure him and the other boy from the hunter's sight. He drops to one knee and extends a hand, one eye squinted in a grimace of pain. It's worth it, though, if he can help this person get away.]

Come on, can you walk? We gotta move fast. I don't think I can do that again.

[It's a long-shot; he has a feeling the hunters know these caverns well, so outrunning them isn't likely, but he has to try.]

[personal profile] inthejunk 2012-08-05 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Except that Yosuke can't walk. There's something wrong with his legs. It feels like someone with eight arms has decided to dig knives into them, and torque them around for fun. He wheezes a little, not quite able to articulate this misery. Trying to die on his knees instead of his face took so much effort he's literally sweating. He shakes his head, miserably, and spits his reply out between clenched teeth:]

Run, stupid! She'll kill you too!
newcomerhunt: (Beckah Platt 3)

[personal profile] newcomerhunt 2012-08-06 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
[What the hell is that? Not the kid's work, that she could tell; he ought to be in too much pain to even think about using any powers. And then hearing the other voice clinches it. Damn. Two of them, now. That complicates things.

[She maintains her concentration for now, keeping her palm closed and the kid's muscles on lockdown. But she still has her knife, which she whips in the direction of the other Newcomer rat's voice. She can't see him through the dust, but she hopes her aim is true.]
chiblockthat: (don't be an idiot)

sorry for the wait!

[personal profile] chiblockthat 2012-08-09 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Bolin shakes his head fervently.] I can't just leave you here! [That's ridiculous! He would never just abandon someone who needed help, it goes against everything he believes in! If this boy can't walk, then Bolin can carry him. Maybe he can't bend without pain, but he's strong enough to carry someone. This guy doesn't look that heavy anyway!

[Dropping to a crouch, he doesn't even ask permission, he just grabs the boy by the arm and slings him over one shoulder. He rises to his feet and hefts him carefully to make sure he's got a good hold.]

It's fine, I'll get you out of here. We'll figure something out once we've lost her, okay?

[As he turns to make a run for it, though, there's a stabbing pain in his shoulder and he yelps, dropping back to one knee. What the heck? OW! No, they don't have time for this--the dust is already clearing! Craning his neck over his shoulder he sees a knife embedded in the soft tissue just behind the shoulderblade. He can't even reach around to pull it out! Monkey-feathers, this is not good. It hurts, but it's not like he can't move. He's continued in matches with a busted shoulder and cracked ribs before, but he's not sure he can carry this boy with a knife sticking out of his back.]

Can... nngh! Can you move at all? Can you pull the knife out? We're sitting turtle-ducks if we stay here!
inthejunk: (aw jeez...)

Bolin to the rescue

[personal profile] inthejunk 2012-08-10 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
[He's not heavy at all, in fact. And it's not the first time someone's had to bear what weight he has since he arrived in the port, so he doesn't make any sort of fuss. Though he does grunt quietly at being dropped back down when Bolin stumbles.]

[Yosuke doesn't waste the breath to answer though, he just yanks the knife out sharply. And then, knowing damn well that it's really going to hurt, he attempts to cast a healing spell where the knife struck. Even though his throat's already raw from screaming, he manages it again. In fact, he howls. It can't be much fun for Bolin to have that right beside his ear...but that's the trade off for the spell. He can't even tell if it hit or not, he's too busy blinking away the stars swimming in his vision.]

The hell's a turtle-duck?

[Because that almost is worth wasting breath on. It sounds like one of Iroh-sensei's strange, made up creatures.]
