Who: Shikamaru and Yosuke
When: a few days after the second Newcomer Hunt
Where: Yosuke's hospital room
Summary: Yosuke's checking out of the hospital so naturally he needs a responsible adult to assist him.
Warnings: It's all sweet and gross.


[It's too early for Yosuke to be checking out, in Shikamaru's opinion, but that's what he's insisted on doing. Souji hasn't recovered enough to heal him, but Yosuke doesn't seem to care, and Shikamaru's just enough of a sucker to agree to play nurse to both of them - pain in the ass that it is.

He's rented a car for the occasion, because hell if he'll carry Yosuke home. He parks it in the lot, though, expecting the ordeal of getting out of the hospital to take a while. He's prepared to pay the bill in cash, so that shouldn't be a problem, but Yosuke can't be in anything but terrible shape.

He'll see. Shikamaru knocks on the doorframe when he arrives, pausing just outside the room.]

Hey. You ready?

No rush. I got a car instead of a taxi.

[Which makes things easier for Shikamaru, who likes to take his time with everything. Especially when those things involve friends in hospitals. He has experience in dealing with a squirming, injured Yosuke - even if Yosuke doesn't remember it. Trying to ignore the uncomfortable familiarity of it, he sets to helping the kid get dressed.]

So I do smell? That's just great. I bet I can take a real bath at home anyway. Sponge baths aren't the same in real life at all.

[The same as what? It's probably better not to ask. But squirm he does, even with a more limited range of motion. If he'd stopped to think, he might realize this sort of thing would be full of old ghosts for Shikamaru. Thinking doesn't factor into the equation, though. He's just ecstatic to be out of this dull place and headed back to relative normality.]

Rented a car, huh? Do you even have a license? I bet you don't.

You don't smell.

[Much.]

And of course I have a license.

[With some erroneous information on it, but still. Good enough. Shikamaru pauses to examine some of Yosuke's more visible wounds. Honestly, he's in better condition than Shikamaru expected.]

I'm guessing they want you resting for at least the next week.

[A lot of the damage is internal, which he's perfectly fine with. The gunshot wound is cool, but the big ugly cast on his arm and the bandages on his ribs are painful and annoying. The stitches and bruises are just ugly. He'll be pretty miserable if any of it scars. But all given appearances seem to point to his spirits being high. Which is perhaps a little suspicious in its own right, but at least he doesn't seem ready to keel over.]

Great. You can take me to get mine, then. I'm old enough, so you've got no excuses.

[His jeans are already on, hanging a little loose from a few days out cold, and then a few more of hospital food. But the nurse wisely chose to leave his belt off anyway, not to pinch anything that smarts. As soon as the shirt is buttoned up, he just needs socks, shoes, and a smile to be fully dressed.]

Nill-san's going to bring some tea for my throat.
