Love is Being Stupid Together 2: Electric Boogaloo
Who: Gilbert Nightray and Hattie of Ehvenn
When: Back-dated to 8/18, 4pm
Where: A cozy Italian Bistro
Summary: Thanks to Xerxes' body swap antics, Gilbert is inspired (forced?) to do damage control with a very.. ahem.. eager Hattie.
Warnings: /!\ Will update as necessary /!\
She had an hour to get herself together and head out to the bistro. However the law of being fashionably late always applies to Hattie, and she ends up being ten minutes late- It's not on purpose, mind, it's almost in her blood to arrive early or late. Mostly late.
Today was a great chance for her to show off a design she had 'thrown together' earlier in the week and had Ella sew; a fancy brown-gold bustledress. That color since she had difficulty making orange work. To her, there was only one reason to get together, and that was to work out the proposal in greater detail- Maybe she'd even get to meet a few of his associates afterward!
Hattie 'knew' that when this was all over, she was just one step closer to living a life of true love and grandeur. But she's late.

Ten minutes late.

It was a false act, but as long as he kept his mouth shut he could usually manage to look the part.
Ten minutes isn't such a huge deal for him, though. He waits to be seated, telling the hostess at the front counter that he's still waiting for the second member of his party to arrive. Not his date! No...he can't call her by a title like that...not when he was about to do what he knew he needed to do. Reject her, and do his best not to let his guilt for the entire situation engulf him.
And then after that, he was going to kill Xerxes Break. Then wait for the Core to bring him back and kill him a second time.
He checks his pocket watch after nine minutes, watching the second hand click away for idle distraction. Maybe she'd given up on him already...?]

Once she arrives, it's hard to miss her. There's just something about her presence that makes heads turn, and once she approaches the hostess, she quite proudly declares that she's looking for her date.
The hostess raises a brow then guides her to Xerxes without bothering to ask for a name. So there she is, with a bright smile, sitting down without even waiting for the young man to draw out her seat.]
Sir Nightray! How are you this afternoon? Happy to see me, I hope?
[A giggle as she snaps open her lace fan, fluttering it lightly afterward.]

Simply said: women who are so confident with themselves and have no problem showing off scare the hell out of him!
He hears her voice before he sees her, but the minute that he does he realizes immediately why Vincent must have liked her. His brother had been happy to keep up appearances, no matter how little the both of them fit into the Nightray home. A woman like this would have done wonders for his social standing. He finds himself staring a moment longer than he'd planned on, like a rabbit facing down a wolf.
This was going to be a very long lunch...!
Even though she sits down before he has a chance to offer the seat to her, he still stands to greet her, shoulders slumped forward slightly.]
Ah, rather I - [He clears his throat and sits back down awkwardly. Just focus on getting through this so that we can beat up Break later. This is his mantra.]
I'm well, Lady Hattie. Thank you.
no subject
That aside, she doesn't notice anything different about Gilbert. Xerxes seems to have done a decent job mimicing him so far. She didn't even expect him to respond to the second question because he's so shy~.]
You're quite welcome. What do you think of my dress? The truth is, I'm actually used to more.. Well, Renaissance fashion, but I just adore Victorian, it's so frilly! This is my first time putting together one myself, but I know it needs a little work- The true spirit isn't really there, is it?
Tch, I really should have known better, it'd fool an untrained eye, but obviously not your own. Oh, before I forget, could you hold out your palm?
sorry I'm so slow, work has been nuts
After a confused second spent staring down at the place where her dress meets the floor, he blinks and finally gives up on trying to either compliment it or critique it. Knowing his luck with speaking to women, no matter what he says it'll be the wrong thing.]
My palm? [He raises one gloved hand, stares down at it for a moment, and then raises it up where she can see. Is this a trick...?!]
No worries I understand! Couple days is no big deal anyway~
Yes yes, your palm.
[Once he raises it, she snaps her fan shut then makes an effort to reach across the table and take his hand in both of hers, bringing them to the table afterward.]
So what do we need to talk about? Arrangements? I've not actually done this before.
Actually, should we order tea first?
no subject
No wait, back up!
He stutters over a few words as a waitress approaches them and asks what they'd like to order, but Gil can't get any intelligible words out over his failed attempts at protesting these 'arrangements'. This wasn't the way that he'd rehearsed this little talk over in his head! He can't pull his hand away either; as embarrassing as it is he couldn't be so rude in public as to push a woman away. That, of course, only makes it even more difficult to talk.
You might have to order something for them so that he can regain his composure, Hattie.]
no subject
Needless to say she's more than happy to order, and of course further destroy any notion that this isn't a date.]
We'd like two lemon iced teas, one sugar each, and.. Two caprese salads, please.
[A light lunch seems like a good idea. With that done, she gives his hand an encouraging squeeze.]
Trust me, their salads are simply amazing. This is so exciting~.
no subject
He yelps a little as she squeezes his hand, but then quickly composes himself and clears his throat. Okay, he can do this. Seriously.]
I - I'm sure they are, but...ah - rather, that wasn't the reason that I asked you to meet me!
no subject
Oh that's right, it isn't!
....
It isn't?
no subject
[He sighs. Any hope of simply saying the speech that he's had in his head is completely gone, he can't remember a single word of it. His eyes move down to the table, averted away from hers completely.]
I think there's been something...ah, something of a misunderstanding. Here.
no subject
I understand that you may be a little uncomfortable due to these.. Circumstances, but don't you think it's a little soon to come to that conclusion?
I really think that we can have a future together, Gilbert. But I need you to give me a chance to make you happy.
no subject
[Out with it, out with it Gilbert! A chance to make you happy...wasn't that all he'd ever wanted for his friends? The people that he cared about; those ones that made him weakest. It's no fair to her that she's been put in this situation, but at the same time it would be cruel to entertain any idea of a relationship with her, or anyone. His flesh and bloody would only belong to his master, he's said that before and it would always remain a 'constant' with him.
Guilt still consumes his heart, however, as he finally speaks again.]
You...do you read the news on the island? The creatures in darkness and...people switching bodies and...all that...?
no subject
[Well on one hand that is a relief. On the other, she ends up just a little more confused. Hattie does look at the news, though it's mostly for the flyers and fashion, which is really all she's interested in.]
I know of the creatures of darkness. I don't go out at night much, really.. And yes, I did hear about that! [She glances from left to right, then whispers] Do you know of Sir Joe? He was in the body of this filthy rich little boy. I thought his behavior was a little rude, but I suppose it may have been harmless in the end.. I think.
Do you have gossip about that?
no subject
[It's enough of a startling comment to break him out of his heavy angst. Ciel and Joe had...definitely had to deal with one of the more annoying body swaps this last month. There was no way that that could have ended well, no matter who had tried to help the two of them.]
I'm not sure what there would be to gossip about at all, really...
no subject
[Hattie is just perplexed now, she thought he wanted to gossip, and that was the only swapped couple she could think of. Have another hand squeeze!]
Well, you seem to know of Ciel; are you two friends? Did that little incident shake things up at all?
no subject
[He shakes his head suddenly, snapping himself out of it. That wasn't why he was here! Plus he wouldn't even know how to gossip if he tried! His hand tenses beneath hers.]
No - that's not what I was getting at! That incident caused trouble for a lot of people, not just Joe and Ciel!
no subject
Although he must have a talk with the manservant later on. There was no need to protest so much! And he must have a talk with the wonder Miss. Hattie later for truly, this is the first he's seen Gilbert so unmanned. There was hand holding and blushing and the usual expected stuttering and the young lady in question was taking it all in stride.
Priceless.
Oz was so very glad Break suggested the little rendezvous and his dress felt quite comfortable after all that time spent as Alice. And a smidgeon less drafty. now to decide if he wanted the bisque or something a bit lighter. The entertainment, after all, was golden, even if the view could be better. They couldn't draw too much attention to themselves after all. ]
no subject
[ Although Hannah's spare uniform is a tad short on Break (and a bit too roomy in the front), it fits perfectly in the waist. Which Break would find irritating, on principle, but for the quality of this afternoon's entertainment. He has come prepared with a paper fan, which he uses to shield his face and conversation from the "lovers." ]
That ~yelping~ would put any ordinary woman off, but not Miss Hattie! ♥
XD You gir- guy- people!
She just doesn't get it.]
I suppose that's what I meant.. And well, sure, I could see that being trouble, but I-
[Blink]
Wait a moment are you.. You're not saying..
*ulp*
Goodness, gracious.. Gilbert? Are you..
[Her voice drops to a whisper.]
.. Someone else right now?
do you see how he suffers?!
No, I'm myself right now. But back then...
[He turns his gaze down to his feet.]
The person who spoke to you before wasn't me.
no subject
Oooooh, Lord Gilbert, what a baaaaaaad boy you are~♥
Sneaking out to meet your fiancee without your chaperones, oh the scandal!
[ With a wave of his hand, he indicates the other "chaperone," the very pretty Oz. He is fairly sure Hattie won't recognize him, having only seen him once before, on the NV. But Gilbert, however...
He's disappointed he can't see Gilbert's face, but his sputtering should make up for that, hopefully. ]
no subject
And yet she couldn't help but smile a bit. She'd never been in a scandal before, how exciting! She looks eagerly to her date, cheeks a bit pink.]
Oh my.. Are we in trouble, Vincent?
[Are they totally going to start running down the halls like the Take on Me video??]
1/2
Perfect for trolling of course!
With a gasp, Oz jumps to his feet, following after. ] Ah, but we shouldn't judge them too harshly! He must have been eager to be alone with the lady. He probably wasn't even going to introduce us until they were engaged.
