September Arrivals Log

Who: September Arrivals, Greeters, NPC recruiters & anyone else who happens to be hanging around the Tower Apartments to 'welcome' newcomers.
When: Throughout September, 2012 (Please Specify Date & Time in Thread Header)
Where: The Sector 4 Baseball Diamond, Parking Lot & Lobby of the Tower Apartments
Summary: This is your catch-all one stop log for arrival interactions! New Newcomers can also meet and mingle in the apartment lobby.
Warnings: Nausea, potential for violence, language- add on any warnings or ratings as they come up.

It feels like a whiplash, like being plucked up into the sky and sucked through a very tight dark space before being deposited rather roughly in the City. Your character will be disoriented, dizzy, slightly nauseous, and very sore upon arriving in Siren's Port It is your choice whether your character arrives during the safety of the day or the danger of night.

Until recently, no one knew why, but every new arrival from another world gets deposited in the dead center of an ill-kept baseball diamond.

Some of the fences and signboards have been replaced with information and welcoming signs, posted by Newcomers as encouragement. However, from time to time some form of degrading graffiti'd tag might appear here or there, 'Go Home!' or 'Now You're Fucked, Newmeat' 'Welcome to Sirens Port, Population: Too Many to Add One More' and 'Attention Newcomers: Please wait here till sunset sirens to receive your welcoming package! =) ')

A person is thrown from their pull somewhere within the fenced-in baseball field, either in the dirty infield or tossed rolling into the overgrown dirty outfield. A recent fire has charred the left side of the outfield, and grass is only starting to grow back.

Standing on second base and facing home plate, one will see a rotten, old and deteriorating backstop and chain link fencing, much like any little league baseball field. Broken down bleachers made of worn out green painted wood can be seen in disarray behind this, and some old trees line the wall and fencing along the right side.

To your left is a walled in Dugout with a secured door. The dugouts are made of thick concrete and set low into the earth. This one has been outfitted as a safe place to enter during the night to hide and wait out the morning. Sometimes Greeters can be found here, waiting for people to show up. The Dugout to the right has also been cemented over and secured with a heavily guarded and armored door.

The Baseball Diamond is held by the Neutral Government, allowing greeters access to the infield to retrieve new arrivals. However, the small building constructed over the right dugout is still guarded heavily by government-controlled Voids, to block public access to the Core. Those who cooperate with greeters will be treated fairly and be given helpful information, lead to the Tower Apartments and offered a month's lodging. Those who put up a fight will be met with Voids and detained by police.

Just beyond the fence, in the Tower Apartments parking lot and lobby, SERO and AGI recruiters will be passing out informational leaflets presenting company propaganda, including discounted coupon booklets and travel-sized toiletries as a "Newcomer Welcome Package".

Other then the lights around the Core dugout, there is one single electric light above home plate that remains on, even in the Darkness. There is an open walkway near the dugouts that leads into the parking lot of the Tower Apartments. The front doors of Tower One are always kept unlocked, but you had best close them again quickly if you slip inside during the night. The office of the Landlord is well marked near the lobby, and you'll receive keys there.

The second tower is abandoned, it looks like there was some kind of bombing. Asking around, you might hear about the anti-newcomer movement and an attempt to blow up both towers. Explosive charges were set up in the elevator shafts, back in January. Tower Two's weren't disabled in time, so the building is taped off, and you'll be advised not to go wandering in there- it's no doubt structurally unsound, though the first tower still stands tall and (mostly) functioning.

Though temporary housing services are funded by SERO and AGI, they are now run buy the Newcomers themselves. With heavy funding and support contacts from both companies, the building is in a state of slow remodeling.

[He doesn't ask any further about that. Dave's lost people before, died a hell of a lot, and seen his brother back from the dead (but not really) in the form of a teenager. Cryptic statements from a stranger aren't push territory. He's not Rose.

His hands slide into the pockets of his suit as he breathes in the chill night air. It's been a while since he's been in this suit, but it really does keep him a bit warmer than his godtier clothes. For now.]

Huh. What else can you tell me about the Core, and this city if you've got the time. [He can't stay here. But he has a feeling there's no choice in that. It's nothing new.]
reassures: (fade ☙ beg for you to let me in)

[personal profile] reassures 2012-09-21 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Nill is more than okay with him not asking. Honestly, it makes her life a little easier, gives her a little less to worry about potentially lying about.]

I wasn't planning on leaving anytime soon.

[Why not? Though she gestures a little towards the apartments with a hand.]

I don't know if anyone will be in there to give you your room right now, but it's safer, and probably warmer.
moveslikestrider: (I found The feeling of awake.)

[personal profile] moveslikestrider 2012-09-21 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Warmer is what he really needs right now. He's not dressed for this weather at all.]

Alright, sounds cool. Lead the way, Nill.
reassures: (Default)

[personal profile] reassures 2012-09-21 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
[She nods, but instead of moving, she types up another message, and points to the small building with what looks to be large men outside it, who haven't moved at all this entire time.]

The Core is in there. Those people are voids, though, so if you can do anything that might not be considered human, getting too close will make you unable to use it. Don't go near them.

[Might as well point that out for him while they're out there.]
moveslikestrider: (I don't mind if we never get out.)

[personal profile] moveslikestrider 2012-09-21 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[He regards the men with his hands in his pockets. Voids, huh? It's like a switch, his memories bubbling up to the surface and in his mind's eye space cracks. Then the sounds of the dying gods and ghosts hammer at him like gale force winds. He immediately starts walking away from them, shoving the thoughts down with a vicious efficency. No. No. He's not going to think about that.]

what else is there to know about the core
how did it start in the first place
did some moron try to make something else and fuck up
thats how it usually goes and then goverments try to cover it up
nothing to see here dudes not like you ripped open space and time

[And we're right back around to those thoughts. Awesome.]

[Holy crap. There's enough emotion behind it, enough want for those memories to stay down, that they hit Nill in the back of the head like a hammer; for a moment everything goes black, and the world around her splinters, a million shrieks and cries in the background--]
reassures: (cut ☙ she's so still; she's dead)

[personal profile] reassures 2012-09-21 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Just like that it's gone, and Nill is left wobbling in place, paler than she'd been a second ago. But Dave is walking, so Nill picks up her feet (they feel like lead suddenly) and follows after him.]

Basically. The Core makes a lot of strange things happen here, and the two corporations are always fighting over it. AGI and SERO-- they're also the ones paying the Voids back there. They run experiments on people and have an active slave trade on the island. You shouldn't get involved with either of them.

I don't know about ripping space and time, but it seems that way a lot.

moveslikestrider: (Just shoot for the stars.)

[personal profile] moveslikestrider 2012-09-22 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
[It sounded like the war within the session. But the details were more like politics, things he didn't bother with. Experiments, slave trade. Wow, this place was just so perfectly morbid and macabre! He couldn't decide if that was better or worse than the stresses of racing through time or seeing so many dead.

But then, there was purpose in those things. Here, things were just confusing.]

ok
so
to make sure i got this its like were in a war between two assholes who want the power the core could bring them
because if it can do this much what else can it do right
what do you know about agi and sero as individual douchebags
reassures: (dim ☙ my beloved was weighed down)

[personal profile] reassures 2012-09-22 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Nill would be inclined to agree. Things here are pretty pointless at times, honestly. AGI and SERO would be a lot better off if they started working together and just screwed this whole place over, but they never do.]

Almost-- SERO and AGI are the big things to worry about, but you also need to be wary of people who were born on the island. They call themselves Natives, and they call people that get pulled here by the Core Newcomers.

It's bad enough that we need to worry about the companies, but the Natives treat Newcomers horribly, as well. If there isn't already a Newcomer working somewhere, a Native probably won't hire you.

AGI, though, is the one that runs the slave trade. If you get involved with them, there's a good possibility you'll end up a slave yourself, or a slaver.

SERO does experiments on almost everything.

The safest way to handle the companies is to listen to rumors and take most of them as truth.

[They're at the door to the Tower Apartments, though, and Nill stops.]

You have to be fast about going inside, or the darkness will get in too. Don't open the door all the way.

[You're going in first though, Dave. Last time she let someone go behind her they got mauled. :| ]
moveslikestrider: (Just a boy.)

[personal profile] moveslikestrider 2012-09-22 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[This just keeps getting better and better. Dave doesn't reply for a while. The information is mulled over. Two companies, two hidden down sides and one agenda. Coupled with the Natives being unfriendly, it makes him miss his confusing life. From the twists and turns of the dream bubbles to the cold halls of the meteor. It's been home for two years.

But there's nothing he can do to go back to it. Whatever. Dave pulls his hands out of his pockets and stares at the door.]
You first. I'll be right behind you.
reassures: (fade ☙ the heavy weight of stone)

[personal profile] reassures 2012-09-22 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's more to it - just a few more slightly horrific details of past events against Newcomers - but Nill isn't sure she should bother bringing that up. He already seems rightfully bothered, and the gravity of the situation isn't being lost on him.

She doesn't like that response at all, though. Nill's expression pulls into a worried sort of frown, and she looks at Dave for a moment before turning to look around them. She could hear things, but it didn't seem like they were too close... Would it be safer to put up an argument and stay out here longer? Or just get inside quickly?]

You'd better be.

[She folds her wings down as close to her back as they'll go, pulls the door open, and slips inside.

In the lobby there are two booths, one for AGI recruiters and one for SERO at opposite ends of the room. They both sit up immediately when they see Nill, but both come to the same conclusion that she's not very new when they look at her, and sit right back down again.]
moveslikestrider: (Of the river of light)

[personal profile] moveslikestrider 2012-09-23 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[The door clicks shut. It would seem like Dave hadn't entered at all. Until he is suddenly at her side with an eyebrow raised at the two recruiters.]

body guards
no
theyd look less like needy dudes looking for a hit
whats up with this nill

[He straightens up with a nod to the girl before he breaks the silence.]

Yo. I'm guessing you're either the welcome mat or something else.

[personal profile] reassures 2012-09-23 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[...That was new. Nill looks over at Dave, momentarily confused. She considers asking, but... maybe another time. Better to worry about these guys first.]

AGI and SERO do some of the funding for the apartments Newcomers stay in. There are usually people here to promote the companies because of that.

[And, realizing Dave is in fact new, both people jump to their feet, grab some leaflets and pamphlets with helpful information on them and run over to chat Dave up. They both try to hand him little baskets with miniature toiletries and samples of products while they offer their papers, and they both try to talk over each other so much that it almost seems like their more arguing with each other than talking to Dave.]

It's probably best to take whatever they try to give you, and throw it away later if you really don't want it.
moveslikestrider: (Rise up and take the power back.)

[personal profile] moveslikestrider 2012-09-24 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Because what would be a better source of throw away test subjects and slaves, Dave thinks sourly. In his mind he's back on Derse frustrated and battered to the edge. Why couldn't be normal? Instead of used for some other purpose. It doesn't matter any more, he's the knight of time and that is that. He accepts what he's offered, slipping it into his sylladex with a click. Nill's advice is taken and utilized.]

Guys, if you don't mind I need time to settle in. Get my shit and get some sleep.

[The biggest of lies, he and sleep were not friends. Not right now.] Mind clearing the way?

[Knight of time? ...Well, Davesprite had mentioned that things with their timeline was kind of wacky overall, but... wow, that would explain a lot, wouldn't it? At least as far as him being an alternate future self. Nill didn't know a great deal about science fiction, but thankfully she's had a few geeks in her life. Enough that this stuff doesn't completely fly over her head, anyway.

The two try to make a valiant effort at keeping Dave around (as valiant an effort as people tend to make when working hours like this, anyway) but Nill butts in, smiles at the two, takes Dave lightly by the elbow, and pulls him away. The two mutter something not particular pleasant at almost the same time, and then go back to arguing with each other.]

That's a good comparison.

Next, you talk to the man who gives you your room key. Rent here is free for one month while you get settled in and find a job-- you can stay here if you want to after that, but I wouldn't recommend it.
moveslikestrider: (It came before my eyes.)

[personal profile] moveslikestrider 2012-09-26 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
[A room key. It reminds him of when he had a room of his own, in his own place where his brother was. Dave can almost say he misses city life. Almost.

At least things happened in the city, where as in space it's all boring as fuck and kinda sorta dating but not dating. What could he even call that? Hell how is his body going to cope to having more than coffee to drink? His stomach might commit a felony on principal. He walks with Nill and glances back at the arguing recruiters.

They were chomping at the bit to get their hands on him. There's no way they'll just let this go. That's not how his life works.

Ever.]

so like a real city
huh
welp adult shit to take care of then ok
i can do that
reassures: (shine ☙ i do adore the way you are)

[personal profile] reassures 2012-09-26 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Well-- it is a real city.

[Nill lets go of his arm once they're far enough away, though she offers him a slight smile - it's obviously more genuine than the one the human dogs back there got.]

Don't worry. Other Newcomers have a few systems set up that you don't have to worry about too many things like that right now.

[He's a kid! Even if maybe he doesn't feel like it so much, and she's pretty sure the others like to make sure kids go to school instead of work for a living at that age.

She leads him to the back of the lobby though, where a slightly large man is dozing in his chair behind the counter. Nill raps her knuckles against it, and he starts awake with a grunt, and muttering something about the damn night shift. Nill doesn't exactly look new though, so when he sets a paper out and a pen to sign it with, it's for Dave. The paper is mostly just about him accepting the place to live for the time being, and if he can't pay for rent when his time is up he'll be kicked out, and they aren't responsible for any accidents that might occur due to outside influence. The general sort of legal stuff with maybe a little extra just in case someone tries to blow up this tower, too, and a dotted line at the bottom.]
moveslikestrider: (Can't you be?)

[personal profile] moveslikestrider 2012-09-30 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
im going to have to worry about it seeing as i dont know these systems myself

[Kid or not, Dave is responsible for his own well being right now. Just like when he ran the loops of time. Back then everyone's lives had ridden on them doing things right. Or rather, working towards resetting because nothing was right. He takes in the back of the lobby as he picks up the pen. His hand jerks just slightly as he signs his name. He'd read the page when it was placed out. Sometimes slowing time down for a few seconds could be useful.]
reassures: (dim ☙ run where you'll be safe)

[personal profile] reassures 2012-09-30 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
[He's handling this whole thing better than some kids do, at least. Calm, even though he doesn't seem pleased, and he gets points for that.

Nill doesn't notice the slowing down of time, though. She may have some abilities connected to the way time works, but she isn't really part of the flow. Just the movement, or lack thereof. She does notice how quickly his signature appears though, even if she doesn't comment on it.

Once the paper is signed the man takes it and sets a pair of keys down on the counter top in its place, rattling off the apartment number before he goes back to watching late night infomercials, which had put him to sleep to begin with.]

Some of the others could tell you more about them than I could. They'll also probably want you to go to school, though.
moveslikestrider: (Interchanging mind control.)

[personal profile] moveslikestrider 2012-09-30 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's been in so many weird situations this is just another day. Dave will freak out about it in private. Right now he's too tired to do much more than grunt about it. His hand closes over the keys and he puts them into his Sylladex without thinking too hard on it.

School. He hasn't been in something that normal in two years. There's a ton of weird shit that's actually not weird he has to get used to all over again. If he's staying. He still doesn't know if he'll wake up in the cold dark of the meteor and have his sister ask him what he was dreaming about. Or to feel Terezi at his back, breathing out and asking him why he smelled of distress.

He checks the number of the apartment and looks to Nill.]

been a while since ive been in school
but i guess i could do it again
so staircase or is there another means to get up to my floor
reassures: (fade ☙ beg for you to let me in)

[personal profile] reassures 2012-10-01 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Nill's never seen something like that, either. Wow. You've really got a lot of amazing tech, Dave. She kind of wants something like that to keep her guns in.

Rose. It's the first clear image that Nill can recall seeing of her - before she'd only really gotten bits of purple font, a few absent thoughts ("Rose doesn't leave people behind."), and little else. They looked more like siblings than she was expecting.]

There's an elevator.

[She steps away from the counter, and looks around for a moment. It's been more than two years since she stayed here... and she didn't visit people frequently. But the elevator hasn't moved (of course) and Nill walks over to it with a gesture for him to follow, pushing the up button when she gets there. It's late, so the elevator arrives after a minute or so, and she steps inside.]

This place is great when you first arrive-- but you shouldn't stay here after this month if you can help it.
moveslikestrider: (We headed to the bar)

[personal profile] moveslikestrider 2012-10-03 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
[He follows Nill away from the counter as he puts his hands into his pockets. An elevator is nice. He's not used to it but, he'll adjust. Dave steps inside as a wave of exhaustion hits him. He'd only had a little bit of sleep and had been yanked from it when he got to Port. Now that he has the gist of things, his body demands he returns to his interrupted rest.]

and why is that
does something bad happen here
and where would you suggest i go if i move out
reassures: (shine ☙ if you'll be my star)

[personal profile] reassures 2012-10-03 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Once they're both in, she presses the button to his floor, and the doors slide shut.

It occurs to Nill as the elevator starts to move upward, however, that she's probably given this boy enough bad news for one night. Regardless of how he could handle himself - and she had little doubt that he could handle himself fairly well - a lot of the stuff she'd told him so far was pretty terrible. Enough to give anyone nightmares. Even if terrible things happened here, it wasn't like they happened too frequently... he could probably get out before anything too bad happened whether he knew about the whole thing or not.]

The natives protest here sometimes. It can get unpleasant to listen to, and they're loud, so it's just not a very good place to live.

There are a lot of apartments here, though-- if you need help finding a place to live, I can take you to a few of them. Rent is really cheap at the boarding house, but you'd need to share the kitchen with the others that live there.
Edited 2012-10-03 19:35 (UTC)
moveslikestrider: (Nothing feels right.)

[personal profile] moveslikestrider 2012-10-04 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
so basically get out before they decide to launch another violent protest
im cool with sharing a kitchen

[Dave leans back against the elevator wall and switches back to his godtier clothes. The feeling of the light material is comforting and familiar. In the wake of some many strange things, he needed that. Even if he wasn't one to admit it.

But he's no stranger to a lot of bad news and terrible things happening at once. All he has to do is think of the session with dead selves, dead brothers, dead friends, and dead dead dead.

Bang bang as bullets punched right through his chest and the searing agony of the green sun's birth. All of it occurring in one day. He can take it. He's tougher than he looks.]
reassures: (dim ☙ i was set alight)

[personal profile] reassures 2012-10-04 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nill flinches. She tries not to, but the suddenness of those memories catches her off guard, and she can't help it sometimes. It's hard to predict when someone is going to think something that would really bug her - almost impossible given how some minds jump around so quickly - and even though she's been doing this for two years, it's still hard to manage at times. She nods though, because that's true (and he caught on to the near truth quicker than she would have expected; is that good or bad?), and she's not going to outright lie about it. Not at the moment, anyway.

She can't help but wonder, though, even though she shouldn't-- even though all her rules tell her that she shouldn't even consider asking--

If there were dead selves, was the Dave she knew from the alternate future dead, too?]

It might be a good place for you, then. Though not many people are still there.

[Then, Nill puts her contact information in for him, just in case his NV hasn't saved it while they've been talking.]

I'm awake often enough, so you can contact me whenever you'd like. You can call or leave a message, but I wouldn't be able to do anything but text you back.
