September Arrivals Log

Who: September Arrivals, Greeters, NPC recruiters & anyone else who happens to be hanging around the Tower Apartments to 'welcome' newcomers.
When: Throughout September, 2012 (Please Specify Date & Time in Thread Header)
Where: The Sector 4 Baseball Diamond, Parking Lot & Lobby of the Tower Apartments
Summary: This is your catch-all one stop log for arrival interactions! New Newcomers can also meet and mingle in the apartment lobby.
Warnings: Nausea, potential for violence, language- add on any warnings or ratings as they come up.

It feels like a whiplash, like being plucked up into the sky and sucked through a very tight dark space before being deposited rather roughly in the City. Your character will be disoriented, dizzy, slightly nauseous, and very sore upon arriving in Siren's Port It is your choice whether your character arrives during the safety of the day or the danger of night.

Until recently, no one knew why, but every new arrival from another world gets deposited in the dead center of an ill-kept baseball diamond.

Some of the fences and signboards have been replaced with information and welcoming signs, posted by Newcomers as encouragement. However, from time to time some form of degrading graffiti'd tag might appear here or there, 'Go Home!' or 'Now You're Fucked, Newmeat' 'Welcome to Sirens Port, Population: Too Many to Add One More' and 'Attention Newcomers: Please wait here till sunset sirens to receive your welcoming package! =) ')

A person is thrown from their pull somewhere within the fenced-in baseball field, either in the dirty infield or tossed rolling into the overgrown dirty outfield. A recent fire has charred the left side of the outfield, and grass is only starting to grow back.

Standing on second base and facing home plate, one will see a rotten, old and deteriorating backstop and chain link fencing, much like any little league baseball field. Broken down bleachers made of worn out green painted wood can be seen in disarray behind this, and some old trees line the wall and fencing along the right side.

To your left is a walled in Dugout with a secured door. The dugouts are made of thick concrete and set low into the earth. This one has been outfitted as a safe place to enter during the night to hide and wait out the morning. Sometimes Greeters can be found here, waiting for people to show up. The Dugout to the right has also been cemented over and secured with a heavily guarded and armored door.

The Baseball Diamond is held by the Neutral Government, allowing greeters access to the infield to retrieve new arrivals. However, the small building constructed over the right dugout is still guarded heavily by government-controlled Voids, to block public access to the Core. Those who cooperate with greeters will be treated fairly and be given helpful information, lead to the Tower Apartments and offered a month's lodging. Those who put up a fight will be met with Voids and detained by police.

Just beyond the fence, in the Tower Apartments parking lot and lobby, SERO and AGI recruiters will be passing out informational leaflets presenting company propaganda, including discounted coupon booklets and travel-sized toiletries as a "Newcomer Welcome Package".

Other then the lights around the Core dugout, there is one single electric light above home plate that remains on, even in the Darkness. There is an open walkway near the dugouts that leads into the parking lot of the Tower Apartments. The front doors of Tower One are always kept unlocked, but you had best close them again quickly if you slip inside during the night. The office of the Landlord is well marked near the lobby, and you'll receive keys there.

The second tower is abandoned, it looks like there was some kind of bombing. Asking around, you might hear about the anti-newcomer movement and an attempt to blow up both towers. Explosive charges were set up in the elevator shafts, back in January. Tower Two's weren't disabled in time, so the building is taped off, and you'll be advised not to go wandering in there- it's no doubt structurally unsound, though the first tower still stands tall and (mostly) functioning.

Though temporary housing services are funded by SERO and AGI, they are now run buy the Newcomers themselves. With heavy funding and support contacts from both companies, the building is in a state of slow remodeling.

[ The shadows were moving, as a matter of fact. Jessica just happened to be one of them. A vampire, monster of the night, blah blah blah. Whatever. That's not important. What's important was that as she can never walk in the sun, she became more than familiar with the Darkness of Siren's Port.

As always, spilt blood always attract her attention, whether she wanted it or not.

She approached the boy, still wearing the clothes she had on before her arrival - a simple pink top and jeans. She felt a little concern for the loss of the eye, but she decided to keep her distance until it felt safe enough. ]

You look new.

"Are you all right?" The voice was quiet, verging even closer towards a statement than a question. The question was directed at the boy, but included the woman beyond him as the voice's owner pulled nearer.

He paused not far from either, perhaps even equidistant. Dark eyes flicked between boy and woman, judging both the state and connection between them both. His stance was relaxed, but there was a bow in his hands, an arrow held to the string. This was not a place to be unarmed.

Oh, so it had just been a young woman. Obito relaxed slightly and quickly, albeit unsteadily, got to his feet. He blinked at her with his remaining eye, the other seemingly perpetually closed. Maybe this was his chance for some answers.

Although now that he had that chance, he wasn't sure what to ask. 'Questions to ask in the afterlife' hadn't exactly been something he'd ever put any thought to before. Instead he focused on what she'd said for now.

"Uh, I guess I am? I mean, I just woke up here. Sort of." If you could call it waking up. He was on the verge of blurting out the question 'did you die too?' when another voice spoke up, startling him. He had to turn his head to actually see the person who'd spoken up and the sight of the bow had him automatically shifting into a more defensive stance. Only after that did the question fully register and he nodded uncertainly.

Although the true answer to that would be no, not really.

Feeling a little more secure, Jessica walks up to the boy a few steps and twitched her nose, obviously trying to restrain herself. She glances at the other man with the bow and arrow. Yeah, bows and arrows are things that can kill her, so she's keeping herself still. Waving a hand at the man, she dismiss his question. "I'm fine, but this guy lost an eye, I think. I'm smelling a lot of blood."

God, she's totally going to need a drink after this, this is making her hungry.

"You need to go to the hospital," she told the boy with the one eye.

Ashitaka's eyes followed both boy's and woman's to the bow in his hands. He did not change his position -- which, in spite of the arrow to the string, was quite relaxed to begin with.

Softly, "You do not need to be concerned, either of you. They aren't for you."

With no sudden movements from either of them and the Darkness temporarily quiet, he moved towards them both, seeking out Obito's face with its empty, gaping socket in the dim light. On his end, there was no reaction to the blood -- only a flicker of sympathy.

For the moment, though, the boy seemed to be standing, which was a positive sign in itself.

"You do need medical attention. We have several healers here. But for now . . ." He nodded to the dugout not far from them. "It would be best if we all went inside. There are creatures that come out at night here with the Darkness. They are extremely dangerous."

They might be able to almost hear the capitalization of that word.

His missing eye was one of the least concerns Obito had. It was in good hands and Rin had done an excellent job closing the wound (despite it being unnecessary) of that he had no doubt. Compared to how he'd been moments before, this was nothing. His immediate and only concern was the utter confusion he was thrown into. Hospital? That made no sense.

He took a step back and threw up his hands in front of him both out of confusion and in a pacifying sort of gesture despite the fact neither of these people seemed to present any threat to him.

"I—it's fine, really." One hand flew up to his head with every intention of dragging his goggles down to cover his eyes and have something to hide behind even though the goggles technically didn't hide anything, only for him to discover he no longer had his goggles. He'd left them outside of the cave before they had gone in to save Rin. He settled for desperately covering his missing eye with the hand instead.

"Wait, I don't understand. Where am I? Isn't this. . . Isn't this the afterlife?"

"Nope, though you are a little close." Jessica is quick to answer. "You are in Siren's Port, this weird island. It's kinda sucks balls, but sometimes it can be okay. For some reason, there's this thing underneath the Earth called the Core. It had this thing going on where it takes people from their homes, whatever world they come from."

She points to herself as an example. "I mean, take me for an example. I'm Jessica Hamby, I'm a baby vampire, and I am from Louisiana. You probably haven't heard of it before. Maybe. Depends on what world you come from? See?"

"Inside." Ashitaka's voice was quiet, but insistent, and he turned toward the dugout. "It would be best to give explanations there."

Before Darkness monsters set upon them all.

See? No, Obito didn't exactly 'see'. Nothing of what the young woman - Jessica - was saying was making much sense to him. He'd question her further, but the other guy was pretty insistent and hadn't he said something about dangerous creatures? That was enough to finally get Obito moving.

He nodded, following Ashitaka to the dugout.
