September Arrivals Log

Who: September Arrivals, Greeters, NPC recruiters & anyone else who happens to be hanging around the Tower Apartments to 'welcome' newcomers.
When: Throughout September, 2012 (Please Specify Date & Time in Thread Header)
Where: The Sector 4 Baseball Diamond, Parking Lot & Lobby of the Tower Apartments
Summary: This is your catch-all one stop log for arrival interactions! New Newcomers can also meet and mingle in the apartment lobby.
Warnings: Nausea, potential for violence, language- add on any warnings or ratings as they come up.

It feels like a whiplash, like being plucked up into the sky and sucked through a very tight dark space before being deposited rather roughly in the City. Your character will be disoriented, dizzy, slightly nauseous, and very sore upon arriving in Siren's Port It is your choice whether your character arrives during the safety of the day or the danger of night.

Until recently, no one knew why, but every new arrival from another world gets deposited in the dead center of an ill-kept baseball diamond.

Some of the fences and signboards have been replaced with information and welcoming signs, posted by Newcomers as encouragement. However, from time to time some form of degrading graffiti'd tag might appear here or there, 'Go Home!' or 'Now You're Fucked, Newmeat' 'Welcome to Sirens Port, Population: Too Many to Add One More' and 'Attention Newcomers: Please wait here till sunset sirens to receive your welcoming package! =) ')

A person is thrown from their pull somewhere within the fenced-in baseball field, either in the dirty infield or tossed rolling into the overgrown dirty outfield. A recent fire has charred the left side of the outfield, and grass is only starting to grow back.

Standing on second base and facing home plate, one will see a rotten, old and deteriorating backstop and chain link fencing, much like any little league baseball field. Broken down bleachers made of worn out green painted wood can be seen in disarray behind this, and some old trees line the wall and fencing along the right side.

To your left is a walled in Dugout with a secured door. The dugouts are made of thick concrete and set low into the earth. This one has been outfitted as a safe place to enter during the night to hide and wait out the morning. Sometimes Greeters can be found here, waiting for people to show up. The Dugout to the right has also been cemented over and secured with a heavily guarded and armored door.

The Baseball Diamond is held by the Neutral Government, allowing greeters access to the infield to retrieve new arrivals. However, the small building constructed over the right dugout is still guarded heavily by government-controlled Voids, to block public access to the Core. Those who cooperate with greeters will be treated fairly and be given helpful information, lead to the Tower Apartments and offered a month's lodging. Those who put up a fight will be met with Voids and detained by police.

Just beyond the fence, in the Tower Apartments parking lot and lobby, SERO and AGI recruiters will be passing out informational leaflets presenting company propaganda, including discounted coupon booklets and travel-sized toiletries as a "Newcomer Welcome Package".

Other then the lights around the Core dugout, there is one single electric light above home plate that remains on, even in the Darkness. There is an open walkway near the dugouts that leads into the parking lot of the Tower Apartments. The front doors of Tower One are always kept unlocked, but you had best close them again quickly if you slip inside during the night. The office of the Landlord is well marked near the lobby, and you'll receive keys there.

The second tower is abandoned, it looks like there was some kind of bombing. Asking around, you might hear about the anti-newcomer movement and an attempt to blow up both towers. Explosive charges were set up in the elevator shafts, back in January. Tower Two's weren't disabled in time, so the building is taped off, and you'll be advised not to go wandering in there- it's no doubt structurally unsound, though the first tower still stands tall and (mostly) functioning.

Though temporary housing services are funded by SERO and AGI, they are now run buy the Newcomers themselves. With heavy funding and support contacts from both companies, the building is in a state of slow remodeling.

"Is it bad? Here, take the bandages off, let me see."

She starts reaching for the fabric herself, beginning to slowly unwind the strip of cloth from where it rested.

"If it's bad enough to need to be wrapped, then it's important, anyways! Jeez."

But despite her words, she runs her thumb along the palm of his hand soothingly as she works.
rewritter: (don't know what I see in you)

[personal profile] rewritter 2012-09-06 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
"I-it's not bad, stop worrying..." and he did try to resist her efforts, but it wasn't easy when she was being so ridiculously gentle about the whole thing. The most he could do was close his hand over hers to stop her from unraveling the end of the bandages and hide the scar underneath. Even if it was mostly healed.
motioned: (oh - feet!)

[personal profile] motioned 2012-09-06 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
At once, the gesture is comforting and worrying; though she needs to know what's underneath the final layer of fabric, she can't deny that having her hand enclosed in his is a pleasure.

"It's bad, isn't it? Or else you would let me see."
rewritter: (you're a mystery)

[personal profile] rewritter 2012-09-06 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
"No, it's not that, just..."

... Yeah, of course she'd take it that way. He exhaled, tried to squeeze her hand reassuringly. Maybe he was bad at hiding things from her, but he had to try.

"Just trust me on that. It's fine."
motioned: (dream giver¸ just around the riverbend?)

[personal profile] motioned 2012-09-06 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Without missing a beat, she squeezes back, not relinquishing her grip.

"...I trust you. But let's go, okay? There's this place I'm living - I'll explain everything on the way. I promise."

Her heart is still pounding with excitement and elation; today feels more like a fairy tale than anything back home ever did.
rewritter: (ratselmarchen)

[personal profile] rewritter 2012-09-06 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Sure. You have a lot to explain."

And there were a lot of questions he wanted to ask, but for some reason he couldn't really think of any right now. Maybe he'd let her take the lead on this one. Not because he missed her voice or anything silly like that, though.
motioned: (the riverbend¸ just around the riverbend)

She starts walking without letting go of his hand, leading him along down the street. It's almost surprising, how quickly those ten months have vanished; or, two years, since it doesn't seem as though he recalled the last time he was here. Even with all that time and everything she's been through here without him, it's taken only minutes to fall into their old patterns. Nothing seems strained or awkward, and she certainly grateful for the fact as she continues down the crowded road with him by her side.

"Well, how much did that woman back there explain to you before I got here? Anything at all?"
rewritter: (lay me down your riverbed)

[personal profile] rewritter 2012-09-06 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
"The name of the city. Siren's Port?... Ah, and she gave me this."

Not letting go of her hand any time soon, but he nodded down to his hip where Lohengrin's sword was sheathed. What a headache. But he'd worry about where that greeter had found it later, it was more important to just keep her hand in his and stay by her side.
motioned: (but people¸ i guess¸ can't live like tha)

[personal profile] motioned 2012-09-06 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
The sight of the sword certainly gives her pause, and she frowns, slowing slightly.

"You should get rid of it somehow once we get there. But, um, I guess that means I have a lot to tell you! It might seem sort of overwhelming, so I'm just gonna start... We aren't in the same world."
rewritter: (wouldn't hold you to it)

[personal profile] rewritter 2012-09-06 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Get rid of it? Well, he didn't need it anymore. He'd give it back to Charon when he returned to Kinkan... wait, what was that?

"What do you mean, not in the same world?"
motioned: (I'm holding onto the sink for dear life)

[personal profile] motioned 2012-09-06 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
She looks towards the ground, breaking eye contact as they continue across the pavement.

"You see how all the people are dressed different than they would have been back home, and all the buildings are different, too? There's this thing called the Core that takes people from all different worlds and sends them here."
rewritter: (searching for what you lost)

[personal profile] rewritter 2012-09-06 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
... This was pretty hard to believe, and he came from a place where cats used to teach ballet. Different worlds, though?

But most importantly. "How do we get back?"
motioned: (but who cares? no big deal!)

[personal profile] motioned 2012-09-06 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
There's a pause. It was hard enough for her to accept, she can't imagine how difficult it's going to be for someone like him. But that doesn't mean she can just avoid telling him; he'd end up finding out somehow no matter what she said.

"Nobody knows how to get home yet. Some people get sent back to their worlds, but it's totally random."
rewritter: (fragile as a starling's neck)

[personal profile] rewritter 2012-09-06 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Obviously things can never be that easy. This Core had a lot to own up to for manipulating people like this...

... Ah, that reminded him, he'd found a way to bring her back from another world before.

"Don't worry, I'll get us back home."
motioned: (what's a fire¸ and why does it)

[personal profile] motioned 2012-09-06 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
She pauses, then looks back at him. It's not that she doesn't trust him, not at all; it's only that she realizes she doesn't know how to explain this without sounding like she doesn't trust him that gives her pause.

"If you're thinking of writing something, other people have powers that should have been able to bring us home and they can't manage it either. I mean, you should try, I think! Just don't blame yourself if it doesn't work."
rewritter: (missed the door and hit the mirror)

[personal profile] rewritter 2012-09-06 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
His frown deepened. Not because she didn't trust him, but he didn't like the thought of not being able to do anything to bring her back. Wherever this was, they didn't belong here and they had to find a way home.

"... Fine, I'll keep that in mind. But I'm trying anyway."

She probably knew that already, though.

Though it's a small one, she smiles. Though she's still worried that he'll end up disappointed, his persistence and determination are some of his best traits, in her opinion.

"Okay. Um, the other important thing is not to go out after the sun sets. That one's hard to explain if you've never experienced it, so - you'll see why tonight, okay?"
rewritter: (rock and roll never learns)

[personal profile] rewritter 2012-09-06 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't go out after the sun sets? What kind of rule is that?" Well, it did remind him of how they had been trapped in the town by the story, but being trapped in a building seemed a lot more restrictive.

"How is it hard to explain?"
motioned: (but who cares? no big deal!)

[personal profile] motioned 2012-09-06 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, it's not really hard to explain, but I think you'll take it more seriously if you see it for yourself."

She hadn't been that willing to believe it herself, after all, until she looked out the window herself that first night so many months ago.

That bad? He considered pressing her for details, but decided against it. Since he was already keeping a secret from her, he could afford to be a little patient.

"Fine, I'll do that. If it's that serious..."
motioned: (what's a fire¸ and why does it)

[personal profile] motioned 2012-09-06 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's pretty serious. You have to promise not to go out after it sets, okay? And there are these two companies here, too, they're called SERO and AGI, and you have to promise not to get involved with either of them, too. They're bad."

She hopes she isn't scaring him, with all this talk of things he needs to avoid and stay away from, but it's better to have him know all this information and keep him as safe as possible.
rewritter: (harbored fugitives)

[personal profile] rewritter 2012-09-06 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
So many promises already... but the more information he had about this place, the better. These companies had to be bad if even Ahiru wasn't naive enough to trust them, but he was a researcher and couldn't help but be curious.

"I have to, huh? Why is that?"
motioned: (bugler's dream.)

[personal profile] motioned 2012-09-06 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"They're dangerous... They hurt the people who get involved with them. And they do horribly things, too, even apart from that! So you gotta stay away."

Her hand tightens on his slightly as they walk on.
rewritter: (when the light comes through)

[personal profile] rewritter 2012-09-06 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
He was used to danger. Danger he could deal with. But more importantly, he didn't like the nervousness in her voice and the grip of her hand.

"They didn't do anything to you, did they?"

Because if they did there was no way he wasn't going to look for them.
motioned: (but who cares? no big deal!)

[personal profile] motioned 2012-09-06 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"What? Of course not! I've been really careful, but that doesn't mean they're not horrible."

It also doesn't mean they haven't done anything to her friends, which is of course what bothers her much more.
