September Arrivals Log

Who: September Arrivals, Greeters, NPC recruiters & anyone else who happens to be hanging around the Tower Apartments to 'welcome' newcomers.
When: Throughout September, 2012 (Please Specify Date & Time in Thread Header)
Where: The Sector 4 Baseball Diamond, Parking Lot & Lobby of the Tower Apartments
Summary: This is your catch-all one stop log for arrival interactions! New Newcomers can also meet and mingle in the apartment lobby.
Warnings: Nausea, potential for violence, language- add on any warnings or ratings as they come up.

It feels like a whiplash, like being plucked up into the sky and sucked through a very tight dark space before being deposited rather roughly in the City. Your character will be disoriented, dizzy, slightly nauseous, and very sore upon arriving in Siren's Port It is your choice whether your character arrives during the safety of the day or the danger of night.

Until recently, no one knew why, but every new arrival from another world gets deposited in the dead center of an ill-kept baseball diamond.

Some of the fences and signboards have been replaced with information and welcoming signs, posted by Newcomers as encouragement. However, from time to time some form of degrading graffiti'd tag might appear here or there, 'Go Home!' or 'Now You're Fucked, Newmeat' 'Welcome to Sirens Port, Population: Too Many to Add One More' and 'Attention Newcomers: Please wait here till sunset sirens to receive your welcoming package! =) ')

A person is thrown from their pull somewhere within the fenced-in baseball field, either in the dirty infield or tossed rolling into the overgrown dirty outfield. A recent fire has charred the left side of the outfield, and grass is only starting to grow back.

Standing on second base and facing home plate, one will see a rotten, old and deteriorating backstop and chain link fencing, much like any little league baseball field. Broken down bleachers made of worn out green painted wood can be seen in disarray behind this, and some old trees line the wall and fencing along the right side.

To your left is a walled in Dugout with a secured door. The dugouts are made of thick concrete and set low into the earth. This one has been outfitted as a safe place to enter during the night to hide and wait out the morning. Sometimes Greeters can be found here, waiting for people to show up. The Dugout to the right has also been cemented over and secured with a heavily guarded and armored door.

The Baseball Diamond is held by the Neutral Government, allowing greeters access to the infield to retrieve new arrivals. However, the small building constructed over the right dugout is still guarded heavily by government-controlled Voids, to block public access to the Core. Those who cooperate with greeters will be treated fairly and be given helpful information, lead to the Tower Apartments and offered a month's lodging. Those who put up a fight will be met with Voids and detained by police.

Just beyond the fence, in the Tower Apartments parking lot and lobby, SERO and AGI recruiters will be passing out informational leaflets presenting company propaganda, including discounted coupon booklets and travel-sized toiletries as a "Newcomer Welcome Package".

Other then the lights around the Core dugout, there is one single electric light above home plate that remains on, even in the Darkness. There is an open walkway near the dugouts that leads into the parking lot of the Tower Apartments. The front doors of Tower One are always kept unlocked, but you had best close them again quickly if you slip inside during the night. The office of the Landlord is well marked near the lobby, and you'll receive keys there.

The second tower is abandoned, it looks like there was some kind of bombing. Asking around, you might hear about the anti-newcomer movement and an attempt to blow up both towers. Explosive charges were set up in the elevator shafts, back in January. Tower Two's weren't disabled in time, so the building is taped off, and you'll be advised not to go wandering in there- it's no doubt structurally unsound, though the first tower still stands tall and (mostly) functioning.

Though temporary housing services are funded by SERO and AGI, they are now run buy the Newcomers themselves. With heavy funding and support contacts from both companies, the building is in a state of slow remodeling.

The fond grin that had been making its way onto Obito's face at the thought of his tiny four-year-old cousin was promptly dropped at Sasuke's tone of voice. Naturally he had no idea what Sasuke was talking about, but whatever it was, it sounded serious. Very serious. He wasn't sure he wanted to know the answer, but he asked anyway, apprehensively.

"No... What are you talking about?"

Obito was dark and striking, the same coloring as Sasuke and his mother. Most Uchiha were interrelated, but the strain of familiarity was enough to hurt.

"When I was seven," he started, quietly. "I came home from shuriken practice to find the compound silent and dark. Then I stumbled on a body."

His eyes stung and his vision blurred. "And another. And another. All of them. Every single one. I went home calling for my mother and father and found Itachi, standing over their corpses in ANBU gear, chokuto dripping blood."

His hands clenched in the fabric of his pants. Droplets of water darkened them in spots. "He told me he'd done it just to see if he could, that he was keeping me alive to be a vessel for him to measure his power against once I'd grown up, filled with hatred and become strong. And if I could beat him, I would avenge our family's slaughter."

The scene Sasuke described was an easy picture to paint in his mind. Too easy. He'd grown up in a time of war, places littered with bodies weren't something he needed an imagination for anymore. The Uchiha compound too was a place so very familiar to him. His home. Putting the two images together wasn't hard at all, add in some familiar faces and Obito was thoroughly horrified.

His mind reeled at the thought of his entire clan slaughtered, just like that, by one person. There was no way. It had to be lie, right? Only Sasuke was crying and those tears were too real. As badly as Obito wanted to cover his ears and scream liar, he couldn't deny that. So he was left stunned, silent tears dripping down his cheek.

Somehow he still had enough coherent thought in him to realize that that wasn't the end of the story. Sasuke had said 'made him do' and what he had just told Obito didn't fit that. It took him some difficulty to talk around the lump in his throat, but he managed it eventually.

"...But... that wasn't it..?"

His lip trembled, his own tears leaving tracks down his face and gathering at his jaw.

"No. It wasn't." His insides roiled with anger and he clenched his teeth. "The Konoha elders--dogs--made the death sentence. Itachi wasn't given a choice. Either he did it, or the Hokage would dispatch a different assassin. They feared our power and crushed us when we tried to break free of their oppression."

He pulled up the memory of Danzo's blood flowing freely and hot, the crunch of bone andn tearing of muscle. A smile twisted his face as he looked up at his cousin. "So now that I know the truth, I'm going to crush them for what they took."

The story had already made Obito's stomach drop, but Sasuke's twisted smile was like a final punch in the gut. He had to lean back against the counter lest his legs gave way beneath him and he'd end up breaking down into a sobbing mess on the kitchen floor.

He couldn't comprehend it, couldn't possibly fathom the beloved Hokage ever ordering something like that and to make a family member do it, of all things. It was too cruel. He could understand fearing the Sharingan and its powers, they had every reason to fear it after all. Obito wouldn't blame them for that, but to kill the entire clan over it? That was too much. He shook his desperately, as if that would dispel the lies.

"No, you're lying! The Hokage wouldn't— he would never..." He faltered briefly, disbelief choking him up before it gave way to anger. "Why!? That doesn't make sense! Konoha is our home too!"

"I didn't want to believe it either." Sasuke's voice was wet and raw, the intensity of the emotion exacerbated by his exhaustion. If it had been anyone else, he would have burned with fury, but Obito was an Uchiha. Obito was family. He had to understand.

"Danzo himself confirmed the story before I killed him," he continued. "And Itachi did, too--just before I came here. He was summoned by the Impure Resurrection."

His voice caught--I will always love you-- and fresh tears welled in his eyes. He pressed his forearm to his face and wiped them away, trying to breathe through the pain in his throat and chest. He mourned the family, but he wasn't a child--couldn't afford to lose control.
comradely: (sadness.)

[personal profile] comradely 2012-09-15 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Only Obito didn't understand, couldn't possibly understand unless he himself could speak to those involved and have them lay out the facts for him because otherwise it was just too hard to believe. Not that he doubted Sasuke's emotions, that kind of anguish wasn't something you could fake, but perhaps a big part of it was that he didn't want to believe it.

There was no one here he could ask either, save for perhaps Ino.

He didn't know what to do or say either and his body moved on auto-pilot when the kettle whistled, his movements almost mechanical as he prepared the tea. He didn't know how to feel about the admission of Sasuke killing Danzo, so he focused on the other part of what had been said. He didn't know the technique he was referring to, but the 'resurrection' bit said enough. He gently pressed a cup against Sasuke's hand, his voice quiet and strained. "Itachi died?"

[personal profile] bondsoflove 2012-09-15 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I killed him."

His hand gripped the mug hard, guilt washing through him like a wave breaking against the shore. He stared at the steam rising from the tea so he didn't have to look at his cousin. "He told me to. He told me he'd done it just to measure his abilities. I didn't know he'd lied until after he was already dead."
comradely: (longing.)

[personal profile] comradely 2012-09-15 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh..." Forget about feeling like getting punched, it was more like a dagger twisting in his gut by now. He couldn't even imagine what that must have been like. To kill someone, someone once close, for a lie. Obito was at a loss of words. What little words he had, didn't feel like enough.

"I'm— I'm so sorry."
bondsoflove: (looking up from underneath)

[personal profile] bondsoflove 2012-09-16 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Saying sorry won't bring him back."

Sasuke held the cup to his mouth and breathed in the steam for a minute, focused on a spot on the table. When he took a sip, the liquid was hot enough to make his tongue go slightly numb. He glanced back up at Obito and set the cup down on the table with a soft clink.

"But...I've heard he was here before. In Siren's Port. And that he could come back."
comradely: (crushed.)

[personal profile] comradely 2012-09-16 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Obito knew that. 'Sorry' wasn't going to change anything or bring back the dead, but nothing else he would say would do either and so sorry was all he had. He didn't retort.

He turned and busied himself with pouring himself a cup of tea instead, even though he didn't particularly feel like drinking tea now, it was something to do at the very least. Although it was a small, menial task that was over in a second before he found himself turning back to Sasuke.

"Ah, that's right. Nill told me that, you were here before too. Since it can take anyone, dead or alive, there's a chance..."
bondsoflove: (strangeness and charm)

[personal profile] bondsoflove 2012-09-17 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
"If Itachi comes back, he can tell you everything."

Sasuke turned the mug in his hands, palms soaking up the warmth. He took another sip, and the liquid flowed warm inside him, abating some of the nausea.

He looked up at Obito as he sat, melancholy. A part of him twisted with guilt, but he pushed it down. It was better that he heard from Sasuke than found out later, from someone who would have twisted the story.

"Who is she?"
comradely: (bandage.)

[personal profile] comradely 2012-09-17 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"I suppose so."

Truthfully Obito wasn't certain he would actually ask Itachi if Itachi showed up, perhaps eventually, but he'd be scared of knowing. It's not like knowing changed anything either, he was dead back home. He couldn't return and change anything.

He kept his eye on the cup in his hand, only briefly glancing up to address Sasuke's question.

"Nill? I don't know. I only spoke to her once and she said she knew some people from Konoha."
bondsoflove: (the only thing that's real)

[personal profile] bondsoflove 2012-09-18 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't think she cares for me."

Sasuke took another mouthful of tea and held it against his tongue, absorbing the clean heat.
comradely: (guarded.)

[personal profile] comradely 2012-09-18 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Obito shrugged, he really didn't know Nill well enough to say anything about her. She seemed nice enough when they talked or well, when he talked and she wrote. He straightened a little, trying to stay focused and not dwell on the horrible things Sasuke just told him as he made a gesture towards the hall.

"If you want a shower or a bath, the bathroom is down the hall on the right. The bedroom is on the left, you can use it."
bondsoflove: (for the devil to dance again)

[personal profile] bondsoflove 2012-09-20 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
He sensed the clear subject change, and remained in his seat to finish off his tea. He shook his head at Obito's offer--didn't want to displace him after he'd given him such horrible information to dwell on, for one thing, and Obito was technically his elder--it would be disrespectful.

"No. I've been sleeping in trees; if you have blankets, the floor or a couch is fine."
comradely: (defeated.)

[personal profile] comradely 2012-09-20 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's fine, I don't really sleep." Not much since his arrival in Siren's Port anyway. Recurring nightmares of being crushed and then waking up in a panic kind of ruined the sleeping thing for him. Eventually he'd crash and sleep without awful nightmares, but tonight wasn't going to be one of those nights.

"I'll probably stay up and watch TV again, so it's better you take my room. You need it more than I do anyway."
bondsoflove: (under haunted skies I see you)

[personal profile] bondsoflove 2012-09-21 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Sasuke didn't like sleeping either--got away with the bare minimum, two or three hours a night max, and only after his body had been worked to the point where he was too tired to dream. He knew how it felt to wake up five, six, seven times in the night, drenched in ice-cold sweat, images of death and mutilation burnt into his eyes, suffocating on his sobbing breaths.

But he knew he needed it. He hadn't slept at all the past two nights, too busy traveling. It felt wrong to take his older cousin's bed, but it would be even more rude to refuse, so he inclined his head briefly, his hair falling into his face.

"Thank you, Obito-nii-san. If you change your mind, just kick me out. I don't need more than a couple of hours."
comradely: (back.)

[personal profile] comradely 2012-09-21 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's nothing. There's food in the fridge too, if you're hungry. Feel free to help yourself to anything." Somehow, he wasn't certain how, he managed to make himself look at Sasuke and force a small smile, though it was rather devoid of any real emotion.

It was quickly dropped again however, when he finally took a sip of his own tea. Right now it tasted horrible to him.
bondsoflove: (sharingan 5)

[personal profile] bondsoflove 2012-09-22 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
"I think I'd throw up if I tried to eat," Sasuke replied, catching the tense falseness of Obito's expression. He wanted to ask if this was something that would last, but he'd overstayed his cousin's hospitality already; the best he could do now was get out of his way and allow him to think.

But there was still a part of him that quietly and petulantly wanted to spend time with his family--after so long. Build the relationship he'd never had a chance to start.

Silently, shoving down the swell of emotion, he headed towards the bedroom.
comradely: (bandage.)

[personal profile] comradely 2012-09-23 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Obito figured as much, but he'd thrown the offer out there just in case. He paused before adding: "If there's anything you need, just ask."

And that was that. He waited for Sasuke to leave the kitchen before dumping his remaining tea down the sink and moving towards the living room to curl up on the couch. It was going to be a long night.
