The best-laid plans o' hatters an' men
Who: Xerxes Break, Sharon Rainsworth, Reim Lunettes, Gilbert Nightray
When: Saturday, September 15th, just before Sirens
Where: A back entrance to Phancyhive
Summary: Break has been AWOL since Friday morning, doing… things. Of course he didn't bother to inform anyone he'd be out. Of course.
Warnings: None.
[ The procedure had gone actually better than expected--
Well, in truth, he doesn't remember too much of it, beyond waking up with a throbbing headache and a bandage over his left eye. He has a bottle of lovely pills in his pocket, but he is loathe to take any until he is back at the Phantomhive-Trancy estate. It's hard enough to navigate blind; but blind and drugged?
Despite his dizziness and disorientation, he'd asked the taxi to let him off a few blocks away from the estate, and then he'd crept in through the gardens. He knows the time, from his NV; it's just before Sirens. Probably no one will notice him as he slips in, through the dappled, horizontal sunlight. And then he will sneak in through a side entrance, creep into his room and pretend he'd been hiding in the pantry eating cookies the whole time.
This is a fine plan, and there is nothing at all that could go amiss with it. ]

He forgets (most of) his anger when he sees the pad and the condition of the skin (he also forgets Gilbert, s...sorry) -- that looks terrible, and before he can properly chastise Break, he has to make sure he's okay.]
Xerxes... What is this for?
[did you stick your whole hand in there this time]

[ A winning, beatific smile. ]
But - not in the way you're thinking.
[ He had wanted to wait, until he was sure it really worked (Stein had told him to give it a few days). But it seems Reim isn't going to let him off without an explanation. He's also fairly certain his recently-surgerized eye looks really terrible and the prospect of giving Gilbert nightmares about it again is... ]
Take a look, if you don't believe me.

Perhaps he will worry himself to pieces, instead.]
I don't think- [-that should come off! Reim purses his lips, brow furrowed and still hesitating. But, well. If Break insists. And--and surely, since it's a bandage, someone will have to change it eventually, right, so! He might as well, right--!
hnnnngh why]

Hold still, then.
[And he'll just... very gently... remove a corner of that tape. Peeeeeeel...]

But between his eyelids, just barely visible is... an eye. The sclera is bright red, but the iris is, unmistakably gold. ]

W-what do you think?
[ Break had intended to sound casual about it. But he is gripping Reim's other arm, unaware that he's doing it, or how hard. ]
Is it--
Did you--
Did you take it off all the way?
[ He knows the answer, but he still has to ask. Stein did tell him to give it a few days. ]

The light headed sensation of confusion and shock only lasts a moment before the ground seems to disappear from beneath him and he collapses...and faints. Like a manly man. Just. Step over him...]

...he's probably heavy.)
He finally registers the grip on his arm and bends it a bit awkwardly to touch Break's in turn, in what's intended to be a comforting gesture. Or at least get him to relax, before Reim's whole arm falls off.]
It's-- Uh- well, there it... is.
[What is he supposed to say, "it looks even grosser than I thought"? He wants to know why, and how, and what should he do to help, and most of all he wants to look at something else. The bandage in his hand is not as gross...]
I hope you have more of these.

And then... that thud! ]
Mister Gilbert. Stout of heart, as ever~♥
[ It's the little things, in life. ]
Hmmm? Oh. I've got plenty.
[ He realizes, just then, how hard he's been gripping Reim's arm. He lets go, though not all the way. Now that the adrenaline has subsided, and the pain has set back in again, he's feeling - wobbly. He leans against Reim - in a way that's probably intended to be annoyingly clingy, but just comes off as... ]
How about that cake?
[ ...pitiful. ]

The status quo shifts back into place.]
Let me have them.
[The "no cake" rule still applies, especially if Break's face is dripping.]
You aren't going anywhere looking like this!

[ He ferrets in his pocket, coming up with a handful of individually-wrapped bandages. And tape. He won't protest Reim's fussing - so long as it's only over small, tedious tasks, and not anything that would actually put him in danger... ]
Ah, one more thing. A favor, if you please--
Don't tell Lady Sharon!
1/3
So she has been rushing down and towards the back door, getting a bit lost or she would have been here sooner. But she is here now. Just down the hallway and radiating anger. Your last ditch wish has been thwarted before there was even a reply.]
Xerxes Break!
no subject
Don't you dare move from that spot!
[Stomp stomp stomp. Was Gil here before? Sharon sure doesn't know it. She doesn't even look down when she steps right on his stomach in her advance towards Break. It doesn't even slow her down. She'll apologize later. If he remembers.
But there is no time left for you to worry about the health of others. She is here. She has found a fan from plot contrivance. It is raised, it is a surprise that the handle isn't crumpling from her sheer rage.]
Where have you been? Don't you think of anything in advance? Are you a child?
[The fan swings downwards-]

Sharon has finally noticed that Break is almost falling over already and... his... eye. What has happened with his eye? There is one. She sees it.
All forward advancement has stopped. Any and anger is replaced with pure shock. She doesn't even yell her next question.]
What did you do?
[...Sorry for ignoring you, Reim.]
buckle up

My lady!

The shock in her voice is so much more painful to him than her fan would have been. Hadn't poor Gilbert just fainted dead away at the sight of him? ]
we're there
I… it's nothing, milady. I'm fine. Tell Lady Sharon everything's fine, Mister Reim, all right?
combo train woo woo 1/2
He's frowning when he reaches out and pushes Break's hand away from his face, because he is going to put a bandage on that, so help him-! Somberly:]
Hold still, Xerxes.
[Just stop moving and let him do this, okay. As he readies the bandage he glances over at Sharon. Break is in misery (again) and Sharon is stunned by awful things (again!), so of course, it's up to him to keep them using their words and not running away to hide. This is his Job.]
We should discuss this elsewhere. If--

Did you step on Master Gilbert?

Sharon brings the fan down the rest of the way, hitting Break's shoulder rather than his head. It's missing most of its bite from the stop midway but it gets her point across dammit. She would hit him again and again but.
Gil is here.
She spares a glance down at his poor passed out self. So that is why the rug felt strangely lumpy that one step. Hopefully he doesn't remember that.]
Elsewhere then.
[We should let Gilbert sleep in peace.]

[ It would hurt less if she hit him harder. But - she doesn't seem to be fainting or crying...
He suffers Reim to put the bandage on (holding still for once in his life). ]
Y-yes. Of course. Wherever you like.
[ Where he would like to go is his room - specifically, his bed. But he's still loathe to confess weakness in front of Sharon, so he chirps: ]
Perhaps the dining room, perhaps there's still caaaaaaake left over~♥
no subject
Well, alright.]
No cake.
[Honestly, looking like that? Reim will tuck him in himself (maybe). But he looks at Sharon again and, with a distinct "look at this idiot" tone,]
Lady Sharon, shall we put him to bed?
[And lock the door and stare at him while he sleeps so he doesn't go out again--]
