Summary:Cheer up tactics, to the extreme. Nill lost the last of her family, Yosuke lost his best friend, and they're both kind of just...lost. So, Yosuke's going to try and do something about it.
Warnings:Hopefully none! These two get pretty gruesome at times, and Yosuke has a mouth, but this should be pretty fluffy and gross in the non-offensive way.


[There's ice cream -red bean, just for her- and music, a box of pastels, and a bucket of stars. There's a movie that never fails to make him feel inspired, and a basket of orchard grapes. Th egood ones, with the rubbery skin and the sticky insides. They'll both be vomiting purple sugar before the night is over if he has anything to say about it.]

[Yosuke knocks on the door this time, instead of bursting in unannounced. Then, he rocks on his heels and waits. It never occurs to him that Nill might not be home, because Nill is always home. There's no bad time to surprise her, after all.]

[Of course it matters, but maybe it's better if she doesn't ever catch on. Either way, putting them down here is strange but cool, so Yosuke nods. Sure, they can do that.]

Alright, I'll hold the bucket and you fly them up there.

[reassures]

[Nill makes a slight face, though it's amused. Always with the teasing, Yosuke. Although...]

How do they stay up there? Sticky stuff? Does it just go on the back?

[inthejunk]

Exactly. It's sort of like rubber, but when you pull it apart it makes things stick to the wall. People use it for posters and photographs and collages too.

[reassures]

Can you show me how it works?

[inthejunk]

Yeah, sure.

[Yosuke clumsily opens the parcel of sticky stuff with his good hand, and tries to rip a piece off. It comes off, but it also snaps his fingers like a taut rubber band. He hisses, and shakes his hand out.]

Ow! Um. It's best to pinch it instead of pull it I guess.

[reassures]

[--pfft. That makes her giggle just a little, and she carefully rips off a piece of the sticky stuff, balling it up between her fingers. How weird...]

Do you think just one piece is enough?

[inthejunk]

Not for all of them. You have to put a little bit on each star, right in the middle. Like this...

[He flips the star in his plastered hand over, but it falls on the floor. Looking irritated, he ignores it and flicks one of the stars in the bucket onto it's back with a single finger, holding the putty in between two others.

When the star rolls over, he sticks the tack to it's back firmly, and then picks the whole thing up triumphantly to show Nill.]

See? Now it'll stick.

[reassures]

[Nill watches carefully, making sure it's as easy as it looks, before she crouches down and puts the putty on the back of the star that Yosuke dropped. Instead of picking it up though, she stands, and flaps her wings once or twice to get the air flowing in the room. Then she waves her hand once, twice, and then shoots it up into the air.

A gust of wind comes up just as she does so and sends the star flying, and though it ends up on the wall about a foot from the ceiling, it still sticks, and Nill looks fairly pleased with herself for it.]

[Yosuke watches this, and his eyes widen a bit in surprise.]

Okay, that's new...isn't it?

[People don't get more than one power, do they? Huh. It turns out maybe they do, at least if Nill-san is anything to go by.

Curiously, he reaches into the bucket for another star and wonders if Jiraiya can do that, too?]

[reassures]

[Nill nods. It's not really a lie... it just wasn't as new as it seemed like it was.]

I've been practicing with it a lot. I think I'm getting pretty good.

[Though she tilts her head, and looks at Yosuke. Could Jiraiya do anything like that? Did he have similar skills?]

[Yosuke grins at her, and carefully snaps himself in the fingers with some putty again, getting another star ready.]

I didn't know you could do that! We should have been flying kites together all this time.

[He winks, and then holds up his own star, calling Jiraiya out. He concentrates on it intently, and calls up a garu-

Which throws the stars out of the bucket and scatters them. Yosuke blinks, shaking a few out of his hair with a frown.]

...I haven't really had a chance to practice yet.

[reassures]

Kites?

[Nill doesn't freeze up quite as much this time at the sight of Jiraiya as she did last time, but she still can't help but stares a little.]

You can use the wind?

[She... had no idea. Wow.]

He never told you?

[Yosuke is more than a little surprised by that. Shika had known exactly what Jiraiya could do. Why wouldn't Nill know, too?]

Uh...yeah, it's my skill. Ours, it looks like!

[reassures]

No.

[Shika knew because he saw it. Nill was never allowed to go with them for things like that; so she never knew. It wasn't something you were told about. Nothing they could do was.

Nill had chased them for as long as she could remember, and now that she could keep up, they were all gone.]

I guess so.

This is cool.

[He bends to pick up a few of the scattered stars, but when he does, the bucket tips and more spill out instead. Yosuke frowns.]

We can practice together. It'll be fun.

[reassures]

[It's a little surprising that she seems to have more practice than Yosuke does so far, but maybe not when she uses her time stopping skill to practice as frequently as she does.]

Sure. I'd like that.

...I could use the motivation.

Motivation is easier if you're enjoying yourself, isn't it?

I've never tried it that way before. But there's one way to find out.

You should probably see if you can get a star on the ceiling, to start with.

I can definitely do that!

[Or at least he can blow the stars around anyway...]

[reassures]

[She laughs, just the slightest bit.]

You need to practice aim. It won't be any good if you can't hit what you want to where you want to.

The target is usually bigger!

[But yeah okay she's kind of right. Crap.]

[reassures]

The target is small, but the destination is big.

[It evens out, doesn't it? Besides, if he could manage small things, it'd make practicing on other things easier. It was probably better to practice precision before he worked on thigns that were actually heavy.]

I guess that's true.

[It helps, a little. This time he lifts the tacked star easily, and though a handful of them swirl and blow at his feet, only the intended one flies up to the ceiling. Unfortunately, he gets excited at the progress and overdoes it, and it ends up stuck like a shuriken. Yosuke stares at it for a moment, dumbfounded, then stomps his foot in irritation. The stars underfoot all shoot away and stick into the wall the same way.

...Shit.]

Oh, man. Uh. Don't worry, I'll find out how to fix that.

[reassures]

[...Wow. That's... impressive. He seems a lot stronger with his wind than she was when she started out, but way too excitable.]

It's okay. I don't care.

You should! I definitely just screwed up your apartment. Like I said, I can fix it.

[reassures]

I don't, though. I'm fine leaving it, it isn't even that noticeable.

[He casts a doubtful glance at the stars sticking out of things, but sheepishly shrugs it off since Nill seems able to.]

I do.

[She smiles reassuringly at him, and picks up another star from the ground, turning it over in her hand. Hmm... maybe she could toss around sharp objects like that? She'd need to give it a try.]
