Gustavo had heard the warnings, of course; he'd seen Crowley's post on the subject of Castiel. Normally, Gus was an almost terminally cautious man, but on this he honestly hadn't seen the need: why would an angel come after him? His past was certainly... checkered, and he had no illusions about where he would have ended up had he not come here after his death -- but he doubted his sins were enough to attract the eyes of angels.

Besides, since coming to the Port he'd been nothing but innocent. The worst he'd done was have some paperwork forged.

So there wasn't much of that on his mind as he left the Underground Mall. His thoughts were on the Community Center, and the seat he'd heard needed filling there. An opportunity, perhaps...

Yosuke was still a bit dazed and confused. On the one hand, he knew that taking rides from scary clown men was probably a bad idea, but on the other, he'd really hoped that someone might remember where exactly he belonged. It was escaping him at the moment. Although he wasn't the most innocent kid in the room, he probably came off as harmless bordering on pathetic, the way he was sitting on the sidewalk clutching his dizzy head. Ugh, stupid Pull.

That's what he was doing, anyway, until someone that sparked that feeling of familiarity he'd been chasing the last half hour or so walked past. Fring? Was the man named Fring? That didn't sound like a name either, but Break had turned out to be correct. Either way, Yosuke lurched to his feet expectantly and waved at the stranger.

"Hello!"

As for all the angel and death going around at the moment, well. He hadn't heard a peep.

"Mr. Hanamura?" Hadn't he heard that Yosuke had disappeared? He hadn't spoken to Lisbeth about it, but he remembered her post on the subject; he had long, long since discovered that having a long memory was an asset.

He stopped now, raising his brows, affecting a certain degree of warm curiosity. "Welcome back to the Port."

Yosuke smiled a little nervously. The Port? Hmm. Yeah. The Port. He knew those words. He knew this place, fuzzy around the edges or not. He bobbed his head at the man, too dizzy and too lazy to bow, but understanding that some degree of respect needed to be involved, here.

"Thank you sir. Um."

His hand went up to his head again after the motion, trying to still things. Eugh, he needed to make sure not to pop in and out of this place. It felt like crap. But more importantly, what did he know this man from? A restaurant? It...it feels like that's right. So, he goes with it. Instinct hasn't led him wrong yet.

"How is the restaurant doing?"

"It's fine. It's doing very well..." Gustavo hadn't gotten to where he had by being unobservant. He also hadn't gotten there by showing callousness -- even when he felt it. He inclined his head slightly. "Are you feeling all right? You look a little pale."

Yosuke smiles. Who, him? Pale? Nah! He swallows, but straightens up and does his best to look like someone who hasn't been sick in someone else's car recently. This guy looks like management, after all.

"I'm fine, sir! I um. I guess I had the wrong apartment earlier, but the fresh air is healthy."

Okay, that's probably true at least. Though he's not enjoying it at all, being in his summer uniform in freaking Canada so suddenly. Very funny, ha ha. But he keeps his expression friendly instead of put upon.

"Were you taking a walk too?"

"Just returning home from the restaurant," Gus confirmed, pushing a note of friendly suspicion, even concern, into his voice. "Are you sure you're all right, Mr. Hanamura? The weather alone..."
inthejunk: (Soba? It's in aisle three!)

Confirmed. Smite away!

"I would have worn a jacket if it wasn't August when I woke up this morning." Yosuke shrugs. He's had so much retail experience that the smile doesn't even look strained. It's not a conscious effort anymore.

"Besides, I think I remember my address now. "

Although Gus was loathe to think of himself as minor, in this case, he had assumed he would go without attention. He'd seen just enough to know what some of the island's other residents were capable of. What was a drug enterprise compared to that? What were a handful -- even a large handful -- of murders, and so many of them deserved?

As for the ones that weren't... But what of those, in a city with dragons and black magic and such men as lived here?

Even now, nothing more than surprise and perhaps an edge of wariness occurred to Gustavo Fring as the angel appeared. "Excuse me, sir--" he began uncertainly, still in persona.

Yosuke glanced up in surprise, when someone randomly joined them from the sky. Not that it was so unusual around here. In fact, it barely earned the quirk if an eyebrow from him.

Oh, hey. He knew this guy. The hellhounds dude. So Yosuke shrugged inwardly, and outwardly nodded a greeting.

"Tell me the leash didn't break."

It wasn't. Even had they been alone, it wouldn't have been, but with Yosuke there...

Gus didn't have time for shock or panic, although he allowed himself to show the signs of it anyway. "I don't..." he mumbled blankly, eyes wide. His mind was rocketing forward, though, fingers twitching almost imperceptibly at his sides as he mentally ticked off the pros and cons of every action he could conceivably take right now.

Deny nothing that could be rebutted, he decided almost instantly. He doubted Castiel was an angel, but a man with sufficient power might know the truth, and he couldn't have someone else hearing it. "I can't," he said shakily. "There is nothing I can say."

Yosuke glanced from Gus to Castiel, confused. They were both acting weird. Even weirder than usual in Castiel's case. Since that guy never made sense anyway, it was Gus that Yosuke eventually looked to for an explanation.

"What's going on? Did I interrupt some kind of disagreement?"

He rubbed at his face, not worried about keeping his eyes on anyone. They both seemed like okay guys from what he remembered of them, weirdness aside. But his head was still swimming from the Pull, so he didn't want to have to try and stop a fist fight or something. How could he relieve the tension between those two? Hmm...

For a moment, everything seemed to stand still. Or maybe everything moved so fast that it seemed like Yosuke was standing still. The sequence of events was impossible to follow, but somehow he ended up on his knees, covered in things that used to be inside of Gustavo Fring.

People were screaming. Someone was screaming. Shit, was it him? It was. It took him a moment to try and form words, and when he did they came out shrill and hoarse.

"What did you do? WHAT DID YOU JUST DO?"

It probably wasn't the best of ideas to scream at someone who had just brutally murdered another man right in front of you, but this was all so far beyond logic that there was no use trying to apply it anyway. Yosuke glanced at the warm, but rapidly cooling coating of sticky goo that had spattered his legs and arms and -oh please not his face too- gagged loudly in the back of his throat.

"What the hell did you do? Oh, gods..."

It was not an ideal outcome.

The pain of being disincorporated was one he remembered all too well -- or, at least, it wasn't all that different from being halfway blown up by a bomb. The pain of being reincorporated? That was new. The goo covering Yosuke began to tremble as Castiel winked out of existence, vibrating atop his skin and clothes like tiny whirlpools. Particles began to leap away from him, hovering in the air until they made up the shape of a lean dark-skinned man with glasses, and--

--then Gustavo Fring was standing in front of him once more, looking sallow and shaken but whole. His glasses were on the ground in front of him. He blinked at Yosuke, then bent to pick them up, wiping them carefully on his tie before putting them back on.

What to say? He hurt terribly, and even as impervious as he usually was, he felt like he wanted to throw up... but it seemed far more important right now that he had a secret that Yosuke Hanamura knew. One that only Mike and Jesse knew; to the rest of the world, as far as he was concerned, he had no powers at all.

Were he at home, with all his resources, this would be a much simpler question, and a much shorter life for Yosuke. But here...

...Maintaining the character was the most important thing. For now. He swallowed painfully, wiped his mouth, and said, "I-- I don't know what just happened. I don't understand."

Something warm made its way down Yosuke's leg, spreading slowly as Gus reformed in front of his eyes. It trickled into his shoe, leaked out the side where the expensive aerorated designs were, and puddled quietly on the pavement. His mouth moved a few times, but he couldn't seem to make a sound. Eyes as wide as chestnuts, he finally took a step back. He couldn't even hear what Gus said over the painful, loud slamming of his heartbeat. But he didn't have to hear it to recognize it for what it was. A lie. Some sort of attempt to smooth over a situation that couldn't feasibly be smoothed over at all.

Yosuke stared, for a moment unable to respond besides the quiet hyperventilation and the urine puddle. He'd seen a lot of really screwed up stuff in his short lifetime, but this? This took the metaphorical cake. It took the whole stupid Funtom bakery worth of cake. And he wasn't about to volunteer to deliver on this. No freaking way.

"S-stay the hell away from me!"

In another life, Gustavo found the nearest weapon and made a quick end of this. It would have been so much easier... but no: not in a world where the dead came back and anyone could be watching, the way he would be watching Yosuke Hanamura from now on.

"I don't know what happened," he insisted, widening his eyes, holding out his shaking hands. "I didn't even know I had a gift, but this must be..."

Catering to the comfort of a urine-stained teenager. How the Don would laugh, if he knew. But really... wasn't this just another messy job that needed to be done?

Yosuke leaps back, out of Gus's reach. It's only then that he notices the puddle, which he realizes belatedly is-oh, gods. His face goes bright red. Nearly plum, even. He gives the wet leg a dismayed shake, and stumbles backwards again until he's pressed against the wall. No, no, no. This isn't happening.

"I'll scream."

It comes out low and rough, as if there's a bunch of gravel in his throat. It feels like there is. If his stomach wasn't empty, he might be sick. As it is, he can only stand there sweating and shaking, covered in piss, making hoarse threats at a man who obviously can't be killed anyway.

Fuck. And all of his heroes are dead. No matter if he does scream, no one will come for him this time.

The character was both easier and harder the longer he kept it up. Gus had been playing this role for more than twenty years: it wasn't Hanamura that would going to make him break, he told himself. Or whatever avenging angel Castiel claimed to be. Even if both names would be added to a very short list in his head.

But whatever God Castiel reported to surely knew how frustrating this was becoming, and he allowed some of that to leech through, rubbing his temples. "Do you think I asked for this, Mr. Hanamura? I was just..." He took a deep breath, let it out slowly, wiping his hands over his face. "I-- I can't even take it to the police, can I? There is nothing I can do."

But oh, he would find a way later on.

"And tell them that an angel deemed you unholy? Yeah, I guess not."

It's a surprise when his voice comes out mostly steady. But somehow it does. His spine straightens, too. Back against the wall or not, he's not going down without a fight. It's pretty obvious what Gus should do next, even to Yosuke, who has never been in this sort of situation before. He's a strategist at heart. He understands. He's gone from acquaintance to liability just like that. Shit...

Hanamura was possibly smarter than he looked, which admittedly wasn't difficult for someone who looked like he did at this moment. Braver, as well. But it would take a great deal more than a puppy yapping to faze Gustavo Fring, even recently reincorporated. He turned to Yosuke, holding his hands out at his sides, openly annoyed now. "I meant because this... apparent gift of mine leaves me without proof," he snapped.

Of course, what Yosuke didn't know was that this was the far safer option. It was when Gus stopped showing emotion that it was time to worry. "And do you want to know why it happened?" he went on, aggrieved. "I can tell you. I'm not proud of it, it's not something I talk about, but you seem very concerned."

"I think I remember learning the deadly sins. It's the stuff you never expect to need that ends up sticking, right?"

His voice squeaks a bit, but it's there. Steady and grounded underneath the betrayals of puberty. And his eyes haven't moved from Gus. They won't, either. If they're both walking away from here, Gus is obviously going to have to go first. He might be a bleach blond, but he still knows better than to turn his back on an impervious man.

"You don't look like the too many donuts type of guy, and you're a successful man with a family, right? That limits the options."
