You know what?
Who: Frau and Rochelle
When: Evening, February 29th
Where: First outside of HoA and later in the slummier sectors
Summary: Frau and Rochelle accidentally get themselves into some trouble...
Warnings: Likely just language...
For once, Frau didn't have to work that night. It was actually really nice, and it gave him the chance to simply wander through the different sectors again. When he'd first arrived he wandered nearly everyday, though work had started to cut into that time. He was going to use this time off to his advantage. It wasn't like Frau had any real goal in mind, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to try and pinpoint a future meal. He wasn't really in the mood to expend too much effort though, so he stuck with the sectors that would have less security around. Those with corrupt souls could be found in any sector, from high class to low. It wasn't very likely that he'd have trouble finding someone either.
Once he found a good target, he would follow him back home and remember the location for later that night. Or maybe the night after. He hadn't yet decided if he wanted to try and wait one more day before giving in to the scythe's demands and feeding. In the end, it probably wouldn't make much of a difference either way, so he tried not to linger on the decision. Instead, he just took his time to look around and enjoy himself.

That was a whole other story though. Rochelle stuffed her hands in her pockets and her eyes took in the details. There was a spark of familiarity, but she she hadn't been here in a while now.

A few people were around, but none of them emitted the darkness he was looking for. At least not yet. Frau had little doubt that he would find one.

"Guess I didn't tell you about the zombies back home, did I? That's my thing. Zombie apocalypses."
no subject
He smiled, not the least bit bothered that he'd been kept out of the loop.
"Zombies, huh?"
That was a new one for him.
no subject
"Yeah. That's what home turned into for me. That's how I learned how to shoot a gun."
It wasn't something she minded telling. She usually held off on it because sometimes people didn't believe it, or she just didn't think to bring it up. It certainly wasn't something she had forgotten, but sometimes Siren's Port could almost be normal life for her again. Almost.

Frau's reason for learning zaiphon was similar in a way. Of course, now he used his zaiphon more to protect others, though fighting was definitely a part of it still.
His eyes shifted to the side and focused on a man meandering down the street with a sloppy grin on his face. He stored the face in his mind for future reference of someone he could go after. The man seeped darkness.

Though she hoped it wasn't actually the end. To be honest, she didn't even know anymore.
Rochelle side-eyed the man herself. He didn't seem all that savory, and crossing her figurative fingers they wouldn't be seeing him again. "Got a place in mind of where you're going yet?"
no subject
Which had so far led him to one potential. Not that they were all that difficult to find. No matter what world you were in, those who had fallen to corruption were there.
no subject
They weren't visible yet, but her head had instantly 'pinged' her to them.
no subject
Instead of asking, he waited a moment to see whether she was right. When they passed the group, he couldn't help being slightly impressed.
"You just know where people are, huh?"
no subject
"I guess I could have called being immune to the infection my first super power back home. But what that's what I got from the Core here, yup. I got it described to me like a... sixth sense, sort of."
no subject
"And you just suddenly became able to do it?"
no subject
Hands went back in her pockets again. Yeah, she really can't make up her mind about those.
"Did you ever get anything here?"
no subject
Frau chuckled. The only thing he could possibly want in the way of extra powers from this place was somehow to hold the scythe at bay.

But then, suddenly, something seemed to get her attention. Her posture turned a lot less lax, and she turned her head back in the direction they were walking. There was a mixture of confusion and concern on her face, like she was trying to figure something out.
There was a boy in the building two houses down from them. It got her attention because he was the only one there, and running around like a chicken with his head cut off. Since the boy was a stranger to her she couldn't pick up on his identity, but the way his presence was bouncing around was... weird.
"What..."
no subject
"Do you know what it is?"
Not that it would stop him from investigating even if she didn't.

"Let's go then."
no subject
"That's all I got, I can't tell what's going on otherwise..."
When they got there, the old, rusted door was locked. The place look abandoned. Rochelle tried her hand with the door (which involving shaking the knob and attempting to kick at the door) with no such luch. She started looking for any windows.
"Gotta be SOME way through here..."
no subject
Frau gave her a gently push to show he wanted her to move aside before standing right in front of the door. It would only take a little bit of zaiphon to destroy the area around the lock. No problem.
He called it up and flicked his wrist easily to send it out. A tiny explosion later and the door was shoved inward by the blast. Problem solved.
"Come on."
no subject
She glanced over, watched, and raised an eyebrow.
"... I was thinking of something quieter, but that works too."
no subject
And he hadn't really. It had just been a little palm sized explosion. Nothing that would have caused anything near serious injury. He stepped through the doorway and into the room, eyes scanning automatically for the child.
no subject
Okay, it was. It was palm-sized and quiet. But Rochelle was still thinking more along the lines of normal things. ... You know, because breaking a window with the butt of a pistol looked like an every day occurence too.
WHATEVER. Rochelle just rolled her eyes and didn't say anything else as she walked into the room. She also didn't say anything else as she headed up the stairs nearby, knowing right the fuck where the kid would be. The third floor.
no subject
That hardly qualified as a need for stealth according to Frau. He could handle a lot more than just one kid. Plus, when a kid was alone, they usually reacted in a panic whether approached normally or with stealth. Or, simply the very first instant they lay eyes on you.
Where they'll punch you in the face and try to jump out the window. A third story window. Stupid brat.
"Lead the way."
Not that Frau didn't have a good idea at this point where their missing kid was. Or, at leas the knew a general direction...
no subject
WHATEVER MAN, she's not arguing this anymore. She's totally right, okay. And logical. Yeah. So is.
But she had more than just a general direction. She had the boy's exact location. When she got up to the third steps, she honed in down a hallway. The inside matched the outside--old, creaky, worn-out, and not that stable looking. Especially those floorboards. Rochelle took cautious notice of it.
When she got to the right room, she slowly turned the knob and gently pushed the door.
"Hello...?" Not that she really needed to say it for her sake. It was more to let this kid know somebody was here. She peeked her head out. A young, mussy haired boy was there. He looked about as dirty as everything else here. Rochelle frowned, and slowly stepped inside.
"Hey there. You okay?"
She glanced over, and motioned for Frau to come in. Then she looked back at the boy. He looked scared. He was trying to edge away into a corner. "It's just me and my friend, okay? We heard you up here."
