because I promised raincake

Who: Gilbert Nightray and OPEN
When: The afternoon of the 11th
Where: The park near Winthers lake
Summary: Gilbert laments best when there's bad weather.
Warnings: Warnings for soggy cake

[There's a cake in the rain.

Well, more specifically, there's a cake in a box on a bench near a man in the rain.

A box that doesn't reside inside of a bag, and is therefore damp from the rain. And, from the state of it and the man sitting next to it, it's been sitting in the rain for a while. It's a curious sight indeed. While people stroll by with umbrellas overhead and jackets wrapped tightly around themselves to protect from the late winter storm, Gilbert Nightray is sitting forward with his elbows on his knees, eyes staring directly at the soggy ground through his damp hair, a half-finished cigarette hanging between his index and middle fingers.

People have been encouraging him to relax lately, take a rest, spend some time by himself to be alone and sort through his thoughts, to meditate, do yoga--the list goes on and on. It seems different people all have their different ways to unwind and cope, and so far none of them had worked for him. If he's home, he'll clean and bake and fret. If he's at work, he'll clean and bake and fret.

So he's relaxing outside. He's taking a 'breather'. He's trying not to think about obligations and duty and doing his best face his anxiety and stress head on, so he's sitting outside in the rain with a cake in a soaked box.

You know you're curious.]

What about being wet?

[Another small frown, this time towards the box. It's bothering her somehow.]

[Aoko breathes out -- a soft, sharp, faintly exasperated breath -- and advances a few steps until she's standing not so far from him. He doesn't appear to be dangerous . . . just a bit muddled in the head.]

Why don't you go inside? You're ruining . . . [A sideways box-glance.] . . . something. Is it yours?

Sitting out in the rain with it probably didn't help.

[She holds out a hand to him, mouth firming.]

Come on. You can bring it with you. And listen to the rain inside.

'M Aoko. Aoko Nakamori.

[Under normal circumstances, this likely would not be something that Aoko would do. But . . . these appear not to be normal circumstances. She continues to hold out her hand.]

We've met now, haven't we?

[He shakes, yes, but Aoko doesn't release, tugging him with an aim to pull him up. Victorian manners be hanged.]

'S nice to meet you. But. [Insistent pull!]

It's silly to be sitting in the rain when there are plenty of warm, dry places to sit.

[But this is Aoko, and Aoko has a stubborn streak about five miles wide. And . . . unfortunately for Gilbert, he has become a kind of project. Aoko doesn't let go of his hand, her mouth firm.]

Inside can be relaxing too, I promise. So.

[Going to pick up that box and come along quietly, Gilbert?]

[If he won't pick up the box, she does . . . though juggling a sodden box with one hand in the rain is . . . well. Awkward.]

By getting their dessert all wet?

[Because at close range, she can at least tell that stuff oozing out the side was, at one point, frosting. Ew. Avoiding that.]

[Truly, this is a great manly sacrifice. Aoko lets him take it; it is his sodden box, after all. A particularly large glob plops to the rain-washed sidewalk between them. Aoko is frowning again.]

What kind of favor makes someone wait out in the rain?
whitefeathered: (to demand)

[personal profile] whitefeathered 2012-03-13 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but. [Tug! He's not getting out of this.]

Inside.

[Inside, where they can both make rather large puddles on someone's floor. And he looks at this point like he could stand warming up.]

[Hurrah, successful kidnapping!]

[. . . This leads to the worthwhile point that Aoko doesn't really know where they're going. Not that this will stop her, but. Surely there's a cafe or restaurant about somewhere. She thinks she can remember one not so far back, beyond the park. SERO territory. But it'll work.]

To find tea.

[Because isn't this the right answer for every occasion?]

[And within a few minutes, there it is -- a small, almost too-orderly coffee house that looks all too welcoming through the gray and wet. Victory!]

[They make quite a pair as Aoko storms in out of the wet, dragging a wet man by the hand (who by turn is holding that sodden box) and stand there at the entrance, dripping small floods onto the carpet square. The poor square is soon overloaded and sopping, only having been intended for wiping feet, not handling deluges. Around the cafe, heads pop up out of curiosity, because well . . . they are people, and people tend to stare at anything out of the ordinary. Dripping people are admittedly out of the ordinary.]

[Aoko disregards this, dragging Gilbert to a table and sitting, proceeding to drip water onto the bench and floor beneath instead, and with an air of self-satisfaction, pronounces,]

There.

[In other words, it is not raining in here, Mr. Nightray, and you have been thwarted.]

[Aoko appears to consider this for a moment, if only to stymie him. Warm? Check. Dry? Working on it. Possibility of tea? Yes.]

Mm-hm!

[The words are said with almost a beam.]

I'll even pay for the tea.
