because I promised raincake

Who: Gilbert Nightray and OPEN
When: The afternoon of the 11th
Where: The park near Winthers lake
Summary: Gilbert laments best when there's bad weather.
Warnings: Warnings for soggy cake

[There's a cake in the rain.

Well, more specifically, there's a cake in a box on a bench near a man in the rain.

A box that doesn't reside inside of a bag, and is therefore damp from the rain. And, from the state of it and the man sitting next to it, it's been sitting in the rain for a while. It's a curious sight indeed. While people stroll by with umbrellas overhead and jackets wrapped tightly around themselves to protect from the late winter storm, Gilbert Nightray is sitting forward with his elbows on his knees, eyes staring directly at the soggy ground through his damp hair, a half-finished cigarette hanging between his index and middle fingers.

People have been encouraging him to relax lately, take a rest, spend some time by himself to be alone and sort through his thoughts, to meditate, do yoga--the list goes on and on. It seems different people all have their different ways to unwind and cope, and so far none of them had worked for him. If he's home, he'll clean and bake and fret. If he's at work, he'll clean and bake and fret.

So he's relaxing outside. He's taking a 'breather'. He's trying not to think about obligations and duty and doing his best face his anxiety and stress head on, so he's sitting outside in the rain with a cake in a soaked box.

You know you're curious.]

[ O-oh no he seems so upset about it. ]

I think it'll be okay! [ Cakes are actually John's area, not hers, but shh. ] It hasn't been out for too long, has it?

[ Cakes are important to discuss!! ]

Well, I wouldn't mind eating a cake, even if it's wet, so I'm sure whoever you got it for won't mind either!

Me?

[ Her eyes widen a bit at the unexpected question, and she cocks her head. ]

I wouldn't mind taking it, but you must've been holding onto it for a reason, right?

[ She considers this for a second, then moves to sit down on the other side of the cake, angling her umbrella so that it still covers it and maybe a bit of him now. ]

Do you mind wet cake?

You never know! I think we should eat it together.

[ Gives him a smile over the umbrella ]

Yeah, just like this! It'll be fun, having a cake in the rain together.

Yeah, it does!

[ SURE ENOUGH FOR BOTH OF THEM. She rearranges her grip on the umbrella handle so that she can hold it firmly in one hand over the box and then reaches out with the other to lift the lid and reveal the cake...! ]

[ What a pretty cake! But OH NO there must be a way to eat it somehow...! She frowns slightly, thinking it over, then picks up the lid again and rips off a rectangle. She then takes it and tries carefully cutting straight through the cake with an edge, as if it were a knife. ]

[ There is nothing embarrassing about this, geez. She then makes three slices into the cake to make a piece, wiggling it away from the rest of the cake, and scoots it out. ]

[ She does have to use her fingers, that's unavoidable, but finally she ends up with a piece of cake wobbling on her cardboard rectangle, and she looks pretty triumphant about it. ]

Do you want the first piece?
