And so I wake in the morning and I step outside And I take deep breath and I get real high
Who: Captain Quincypants (
sequincy) and the Ginger Hero (
blackmoonrising)
When:03/05
Where: Ishida and Shikamaru's apartment
Summary: Ichigo arrives in the city and Ishida gives him a rundown of what's been happening.
Warnings: Probably language and table flipping. Possibly.
[It had certainly been one hell of day, that much was for sure.
Ichigo's head was still throbbing as he followed the directions to Ishida's apartment that the Quincy had sent him earlier; he knew it was late and he should have been tired, but he was wide awake and hyper aware of everything. Every noise in the dark harboured a potential threat, and while he knew he was more than capable of putting up a fight against anything that got any dumb ideas to attack him, he preferred not to have to have any delays and gathered reishi beneath his feet to travel unhindered above the dark streets.
Arrancar and Shinigami living an uneasy truce in darkness infested Canada. If he'd have been told he'd be in this situation a week earlier, he would have laughed about it. He would also have still been convinced that Ginjou was an ally, working on his Fullbring and blissfully oblivious to a lot of things.
What a difference a week makes.
Finally arriving at the spot he'd been directed to, and confirming it was the right place by easily picking out Ishida's reiryoku, Ichigo hammered on the door.]
Oi, Ishida!

Oi, Ishida!

[he steps out of the way to allow the shinigami in. It's a relatively sparse loft apartment - he's only recently moved in and hasn't had time to furnish it. But there are places to sit, and the kitchen is fully stocked - as evidence by the pot of tea he has boiling. Uryuu crosses to it on bare feet after shutting the door, shoving his glasses back into place.] Tch, if you get me a noise complaint with the neighbors I'm going to make you apologize to them, Kurosaki...
no subject
I wasn't pounding, I was knocking.
[He shucks off his waraji at the door, leaving him to pad into the apartment in his tabi, quietly checking the place out as he goes.]
Looks like you got a better end of the deal than I did when it comes to apartments.
no subject
Do you want sugar?
no subject
[The response to the tea comes as a knee-jerk reaction, a spot of normal routine in an otherwise abnormal day, and then the rest of what he says sinks in. For a moment his eyes widen, then he frowns again.]
So I guess what they say about this place and time acting weirdly's true then, if you've been here two years.
no subject
[he takes a careful sip.] ...I think you'll find the same situation applies to you as well, Kurosaki.
no subject
[He nurses his mug in his hands, quietly mulling things over.]
You think this Core thing's responsible or is there more to it?
no subject
...But there's also certainly more to it. [he adds a little sugar to his own tea, quietly stirring, watching the liquid swirl] The companies on this island play a constant propaganda game. ...If you want my honest opinion, I think they're both one in the same; different divisions of the same branch. I believe there's a single monopoly on this island, in single control of the Core. I believe the constant back and forth between AGI and SERO is a diversion.
no subject
[He puts his mug down for a minute, processing this, then drops his elbow to the table and rests his chin on his knuckles.]
Okay, so there's two companies but you think they're actually one and they're trying to get people to buy into them being at each other's throats. And together they've got this thing that drags people in and sticks them in this place and basically gives the finger to stuff like time and space which nobody can even get a look at.
[He lifts his head off his knuckles long enough to pinch the bridge of his nose with a sigh.]
So if they're trying to get people's attention off what they're doing, d'you have an idea what they might be doing? 'Cause if they're just moving people to Canada for the hell of it that doesn't make any sense.
no subject
Or they could have something to gain from drawing in Newcomers. Perhaps in giving the people a common enemy. I don't know. [he shrugs] It's a theory in process.
But this goes beyond our world. There's no evidence to suggest it has anything to do with us personally.
no subject
[Just... don't ask him what that something is. He has nothing more to go on than whatever Ishida has to suggest and the ever present need to use his strength to protect people. All the same, he picks up his tea again and pauses before he sips.]
Kinda weird getting caught up in stuff that isn't personal after all this time.
no subject
[But it was personal, for a while. When Aizen was here.
I'm glad you don't remember it.]
I don't know how to proceed. Not yet. I've been... occupied with a different matter. I had infiltrated SERO for a while, but there was an incident. It hasn't been safe for me to return.
Does the name Szayel-Aporro Grantz mean anything to you?
no subject
[He scratches the back of his neck for second, expression pensive. An Espada coming up in conversation about one of these shady corporation things? Ichigo doesn't like it.]
Nah, nothing's coming to me right now. What's he gotta do with you not being able to sneak around at SERO? You think that some of the Arrancar have defected without Aizen being here to call the shots?
no subject
Whether they've defected or not is of no consequence. The trouble was that he was working with SERO when I became an intern there, and I was subsequently placed under his supervision.
Then he decided to build a small force of androids and set them upon people in what had to be the most desperate attempt at takeover I've ever seen. Needless to say, his efforts failed. But he's subsequently blamed his atrocities on SERO, which has aligned the company against him. ...And as he also experimented upon someone close to me prior to the attack, I've also had to testify against him in court.
Needless to say, my name has come up entirely too many times in connection with him to remain as anonymous within SERO as I was.
no subject
I thought Nel said the Espada were under control and I trust her; I got nothing personal against them unless they're gonna start trouble and it sure sounds like this jackass is trouble.
[He sits back in his chair for a moment, mulling things over.]
So if he went to court, I'm guessing he got sent away. Jail gonna be enough to hold him, you reckon?
no subject
Ah, I almost forgot you only just got here. No, he wasn't "sent away". He was acquitted. Nothing happened to him. He's faced no punishment for what he did.
no subject
What?
[Ichigo is not a fan of miscarriages of justice, it goes back to before he and his friends stormed an age old society to rescue a comrade. People need to get treated fairly; the strong protect the weak, and that's what law's supposed to be, right? Strong. There to protect people. So why the hell do so many places seem to forget that?]
That's bullshit. I'm not taking that crap. Did you talk to Nel? Isn't she gonna do something about it?
no subject
[he sips at his drink calmly, but the gesture is cold. He's been angry about this subject for too long.]
no subject
Don't underestimate Nel. She's strong.
[He knows she's strong, he's seen it for himself, but finding that she doesn't have control over the Arrancar is disheartening, especially if they're already causing trouble for his friends.
His jaw is tight and his expression stony as he sits down again.]
So what are we gonna do about it?
no subject
Wait. Observe. Plan. ...I already destroyed his private lab.
no subject
Tch, you musta spent way too much time with Renji if you're going around trashing buildings, sounds like he's brushed off on you.
[...and himself, but details, details. Fact is, Ishida's gone and picked a fight and Ichigo's fully prepared to have his back.]
You think that'll stop him? Or is it just gonna piss him off, 'cause I've not tested out all these new powers can do yet, and if he comes after you then we'll take him down together.
no subject
[and he's ready for the fight to follow. But hearing that Ichigo will fight with him - that gets the Quincy's attention again. He can't help a little smirk.]
New powers, hm? You can never just perfect the set you have, eh, Kurosaki?
no subject
[Ishida of all people should know how that feels. The smirk catches Ichigo's eye and he lets and answering one tug at the corner of his lips as he shrugs, seemingly nonchalant.]
Besides, I gotta keep giving you something to catch up to otherwise you'll just sit on your ass sewing doilies or something lame like that.
