[OPEN] She took the train through the city at dawn

Who: Anya Lehnsherr and YOU
When: Anytime from this week!
Where: All over! Fred's hotel, the mall, the Port library, the towers, or just exploring the different sectors of the city.
Summary: Anya is meeting people and getting to know her new home.
Warnings: None so far.

Old habits die hard. She still tries to make herself inconspicuous, still hunches herself into small and unremarkable shadows, still slips along the edges of crowds. She's quiet and subtle and she doesn't draw attention to herself. But the longer she stays in the city, the more open she becomes. However briefly, she has her own job and her own apartment, space for her and her alone. The rare times she's spoken to people on the network - they listened. She feels almost like she's floating when she walks; she catches herself beaming at strangers as she wanders through the Port's streets.

She pours over books in the library, or at her desk at work in Fred's hotel when the phones are quiet. She spends the occasional night in the mall, just wondering at all the things she could buy with money of her very own, even though she spends only very sparingly. And in the evenings after work, sometimes she puts on soft music, and dances and dances and dances around the small, private haven of her crummy, temporary apartment until she falls on her bed in exhaustion, and sleeps without dreams.

"He was a good man." Fred gave a small smile, looking over at Anya. "He wasn't always, but back home he sacrificed himself to save the world. He came back, but his soul kept getting dragged to Hell. I had to recorporealize him. Almost blew a hole through the world, but I did it. And here? He got me and Chuck together."

"I used to work for an investigation service for the supernatural. I mean I'm just human, but that didn't matter." She shrugged, smiling brightly at her gesture before turning down the street.

"He should be home. He was happier there. And I don't think he knew what happened to me." Fred meant her own death. When Spike was here, he wasn't secretive about where he was. Fred was pretty sure they were from the same time. Then again, all it took was less than a week for her to be home and die.

"We should see about setting something up for you then." She smiled brightly. Being a receptionist wasn't exactly ever someone's dreams. If Fred could help, she certainly would.

"It couldn't be that hard. Especially if you helped Supernaturals and new comers. Could actually use one right about now."

"It would take awhile to start up anyway." She shrugged. It was just a suggestion. She turned down another street before looking back at the other brunette.

"We helped the helpless. Whatever they needed."

"I don't know. As long as people weren't hurt." Fred said with a small, sad smile. That was rare though.

"We spent a long time on the Apocalypse. I liked being the head of the science department when we moved to the law firm."

She moved down the street before opening the door to one of the places. Fred let her go first. "I was a physicist, but I worked for an advanced company. Still this place does offer a lot." She smiled.

"Did you work with the sciences?"

"Really?" She looked up at her, excitedly. "Me, too. More amateur stuff, but I loved designing and building tech. From whatever I had."

At the gesture, Fred sat with a laugh. She really liked the girl and it made her smile. Looking back at her, Fred gestured at the spot across from her. "Why thank you."

"I can understand that. I used to make things when I was bored. I made a this machine to dicapitate someone out of some springs and a suitcase once. Came in handy, actually. This bug demon came after me." She shrugged before a waitress came order and Fred ordered a lemonade and more wings than someone her size was capable of eating.

"It worked." She replied with a smile. "What did you like building?"

"That's brilliant! You're amazing." She grinned back at her mostly out of amazement. She'd never gone that far, but Fred certainly shared in the love of taking things a part and putting them back together.
