He'd made appointments with various people. He was going to keep them. But even still, he was looking entirely well. He'd lost a little weight, was tense, and mostly very still. Except his eyes. They never stopped moving.

Byakuya ticked up an eyebrow. He understood not wanting to talk about it, but he wasn't going to allow Xavier that much of an easy out. He wanted answers, but the tea reminded him that Unohana was, no doubt, hovering near by (even if she was completely across the island, that was "near by") and she would not take kindly to her patient being stressed.

"The accusations against you are serious. A lapse in memory will do nothing to stave off the repercussions." Slightly scolding, but nothing more. He wanted Xavier to talk.

"The police consider the matter closed. No evidence of, even of assault was found. The investigation has been closed for a little over a week now." That was not to say he wasn't concerned with retaliation from Castiel. Or Crowley - he didn't trust him to let Castiel handle it. "I can understand people would like answers, but there's little to give them. I've seen some talk that my silence indicated guilt, which is certainly true in popular opinion, Crowley is hardly the first to accuse me of murder. While ruling in Genosha, there were dozens of false accusations a year, or more - those were merely the ones I found out about. Under the best of circumstances I wouldn't have entertained his tantrum with a response, and these are far from best." And that was what Crowley's little announcement to the HoA and over a public feed was, a tantrum.

His voice was quiet, though a little rough. That was probably the most he had spoken in a while. He was not going to admit to guilt or innocence.

Byakuya inclined his head a bit. He took a sip of the tea, and thought for a moment. "Leaders that answer every accusation have very little time to rule and do not remain leaders for long."

He'd said the same thing to Creed. He wondered if the man had understood it.

He watched Xavier, waiting in silence. There was more, he was sure of it. He could be patient. He had time.

"No, they don't. Your opponents realize very quickly they can stall or even cripple your government by simply flinging words around." He knew that, quite well. It had been something tried on Genosha, and the learning curve had been steep and brutal. The civil war was over all that was left was rounding up the members of the previous government, and they had tried that. For a couple weeks, it had worked.

"I told Creed I was going to resign. Claimed health reasons but the reality...I'm not willing to work within the system he's building."

"Creed-san has his convictions." Which was Byakuya's polite way of saying he was an arrogant jackass. And when Byakuya called someone that, they were far above it.

"So, you have left the NPP completely. Now, what will you do?"

"He does. As do I. It's a pity we disagree." He could admit to being an arrogant jackass - he was. But he and Creed could have done well together, until they clashed over alpha dog status. All in all, it was probably for the best.

"I don't know. I have a project I am working on with will take some time, and one slated for the house. For right now, taking on much more would be frown upon." And Uhonana frowning at him was a scary thought.

"A project?" Byakuya ticked up an eyebrow. "You are expanding the house again?"

Byakuya knew several noble families that did that every generation or so and had to replace the old with new in that time. He enjoyed his estate, where the old was well kept and enjoyable - comfortable, familiar. that didn't mean he wasn't sometimes interested in other people's projects.

"A larger garden. The mansion back home has several hundred acres, plus the lake. It was good for us, meditation, morning exorcises, simply some places quiet to sit. We were thinking of taking one of the buildings and using it to a multi story indoor garden." That is also gave much needed space to withdraw from the world when needed was also a part of it, as was being able to grow more produce.
