Halloween Masquerade Ball

Who: The Newcomer Political Party and The Newcomers!
When: October 27th, 7:00pm till Morning Sirens.
Where: The Newcomer Community Center
Summary: Time for some Halloween Masquerade Fun!
Warnings: Anything is possible!

The Community Center has been transformed into a sophisticated autumn dance hall, with bits of Halloween decorations around the room. When the door opens, you find yourself in the hall before the main room, someone ready to take your coat, if you have one, and another ready to give out bracelets. That way no one who shouldn't be drinking won't be able to.

The dance floor is surrounded by a number of small, round tables, each with an elaborate centerpiece of cobwebs. There are lights within the hanging decorations, with draped fabric over the sides, to give it a more close knit feeling. At the head of all the tables is a bar serving free drinks and cocktails to anyone over age. There is also a buffet

And then, of course, there is the dance floor, where people are dancing to the music supplied by two talented DJs, lights blinking and the room ready for everyone to have a good time.

Last call for food is two hours before sirens, and then the last call for drinks is an hour before the party finishes. You might want to be careful when it gets to be that time, though. Around 1:00 am, the party is going to change, due to a series of unfortunate events. You may not be very hungry or thirsty for awhile after.

[she had a difficult time choosing which costume, but vesper's positive on the one she's chosen. she could have worn a big ball gown or at least regular one, but they were expensive. a leather catsuit was just easier. and as she's moving through the community center greeting attendees, drinking martinis, and take a bite of food here and there, she has a feeling that this will be a wonderful party.]

[Though Tonegawa's costume is decidedly understated, the man himself is in full swing. It takes a little while, but he eventually finds Lynd circulating with a drink in hand and approaches her with a smile.]

Lynd-kun. I don't know how I could possibly have missed you for this long, particularly when congratulations are in order. Both you and the center look wonderful.

[She's just grabbed another martini when Yukio approaches her. Vesper smiles widely and turns to him, the waitress moving away to take care of another party-goer.]

Mr. Tonegawa, it's such a pleasure that you could make it and thank you. I feel a little self-conscious, but Halloween is all about being something different, isn't it?

Mm. And for one night of the year, why not? [Though to be honest he's always wondered if it's not the opposite, from what he understands of the holiday; it seems to appeal to the part of the human mind that likes to double bluff, to "dress up" and "play pretend" at the thoughts and desires that simultaneously loathe and repulse it.] You aren't anticipating any trouble this evening, I take it?
inamartiniglass: (ready for my close up)

[personal profile] inamartiniglass 2012-10-29 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I certainly hope not. Nothing more than few rowdy guests but that's what we have security for.

Are you enjoying yourself?

[personal profile] 12second_orz 2012-10-29 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That's good. Anti-Newcomer sentiment seems to have died down a little of late- with any luck, you won't find yourselves knee-deep in local pranksters' handiwork come November first here. And, yes. I am, rather. [He sounds almost surprised at the fact.] It must be nice for you to take a little time out.
inamartiniglass: (oh stawp)

[personal profile] inamartiniglass 2012-10-30 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I really hope no one decides to cover the community center with toilet paper. [She smiles at his statement.]

It is, but frankly I haven't had time to just sit down and enjoy myself. I've been making my rounds, making sure everyone feels welcome. I never knew it would be so hectic, being something of a public face.

[personal profile] 12second_orz 2012-10-30 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't ever stop, do you? [But Tonegawa doesn't sound accusing- far from it, as it happens. There may even be a hint of pride that he has her on- or rather, not on- his books.] Well. If the NPP was going to have "faces", you and Creed certainly make a handsome couple for it. You've navigated public relations surprisingly well.
inamartiniglass: (does this shirt make me look french?)

[Vesper inwardly panics briefly, wondering if he's hinting at something. But then she calms herself; she and Raul had to tread lightly with their developing less-than-professional relationship.]

Well, when you've worked for one of the world's biggest governments, you know a thing or two about covering your tracks.

[An apt statement in more ways than the one shared privately between the two of them.] As has Creed, from what I understand of his home world. This must be quite the step down for both of you.

Local politics are a little easier to handle than those on a national scale. Especially politics dealing with national security.
12second_orz: (time to d-d-d-d-duel)

[personal profile] 12second_orz 2012-11-04 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm sure- though local politics, particularly from our starting point, also tend towards stagnation and getting... personal, shall we say?
inamartiniglass: (step off)

[personal profile] inamartiniglass 2012-11-06 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That tends to be the pitfall, I can imagine. A community as tight as ours would lend itself to some problems in the local political arena. Everyone knows someone's secret.

[The catsuit is probably more than eye-catching to most men at the party, but it takes Gustavo a while to give the woman a second look and realize she is, in fact, Vesper.

Ah.

He sips the drink in his hand, takes a second to arrange an appropriate smile, and approaches.]
Vesper. It's so good to see you. The party is wonderful.
inamartiniglass: (i must decline)

[personal profile] inamartiniglass 2012-10-29 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
[With all this running around and her costume, Vesper's gotten a little hot. By the time Gus has approached her, she's taken off her mask and wiping at whatever eye make-up had been destroyed in the process. She smiles once she's done wiping at her face. She doesn't put the mask back on to let her skin cool.]

Oh my pleasure, Gustavo.

[She wipes her temple with the back of her hand.]

Raul and I are pleased with how it's turning out and everyone's enthusiasm.
businessman: (eyebrow)

[personal profile] businessman 2012-11-01 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
That would be Raul Creed? I haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting him. [Although he's seen more than enough of the man while tracking Vesper these last few weeks. He might even have seen almost as much as she clearly has, if he were the type to keep watching such things.]

I should correct that tonight, really. As you said, it's a joint victory for the both of you.
inamartiniglass: (ready for my close up)

[personal profile] inamartiniglass 2012-11-01 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
You should. [Obviously oblivious to anything that's going on surrounding her.]

Especially with your business and the projected success of it. It also provides opportunities for Newcomer employment without the threat of affiliation.
businessman: (welcome)

[personal profile] businessman 2012-11-02 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
[He grins broadly at that.] I didn't realize my success was being projected. That's comforting to hear.

And as for affiliation, well... I considered it, but with the dangers such as they are...
inamartiniglass: (please tell me more)

[personal profile] inamartiniglass 2012-11-04 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
I will admit that affiliation makes it easier for Newcomer businesses to get off the ground, but as I'm sure you've seen with Violet Systems in the news, it's difficult to cut ties when AGI or SERO is your partner.
businessman: (explain)

[personal profile] businessman 2012-11-04 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods, frowning in thoughtful consideration.] I'm hoping that we'll do well enough without the companies. Besides, a business run by independent conglomeration... the political situation being what it is, there's something to be said for that, isn't there?
inamartiniglass: (i see what you did)

[personal profile] inamartiniglass 2012-11-06 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course. It shows Newcomers that we can survive on our own, that we can make it in the big leagues, as they say.

[She pauses.]

No pun intended, of course.
businessman: (welcome)

[personal profile] businessman 2012-11-08 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
Of course. But yes -- if it helps the community, that's a considerable bonus. I always try to be an active participant in my community.
