Halloween Masquerade Ball

Who: The Newcomer Political Party and The Newcomers!
When: October 27th, 7:00pm till Morning Sirens.
Where: The Newcomer Community Center
Summary: Time for some Halloween Masquerade Fun!
Warnings: Anything is possible!

The Community Center has been transformed into a sophisticated autumn dance hall, with bits of Halloween decorations around the room. When the door opens, you find yourself in the hall before the main room, someone ready to take your coat, if you have one, and another ready to give out bracelets. That way no one who shouldn't be drinking won't be able to.



The dance floor is surrounded by a number of small, round tables, each with an elaborate centerpiece of cobwebs. There are lights within the hanging decorations, with draped fabric over the sides, to give it a more close knit feeling. At the head of all the tables is a bar serving free drinks and cocktails to anyone over age. There is also a buffet



And then, of course, there is the dance floor, where people are dancing to the music supplied by two talented DJs, lights blinking and the room ready for everyone to have a good time.



Last call for food is two hours before sirens, and then the last call for drinks is an hour before the party finishes. You might want to be careful when it gets to be that time, though. Around 1:00 am, the party is going to change, due to a series of unfortunate events. You may not be very hungry or thirsty for awhile after.

[ Marco never had a business proposal over candy before. But then, he never did business period, so. There's that.

So he sides right across from Jesse, grabbing some of the candy for himself. It might look a little weird having a slightly shorter version of the Phantom of the Opera chowing down on some pieces of chocolate. ]

Sup.

[Jesse beams down at Marco, raising his candy bar in a toast of sorts.]

Yo, little man. Badass costume, all classy and shit.

[ Marco acknowledges Jesse's toast and raises his bag of M&Ms in response. ]

And you look . . . [ He pauses and searches for the word. ] . . . fearsome.

Hahaha, damn straight.

What's up, man? What's going on with the whole showbiz thing?

[guerrilla_morph]

Still good. Still auditioning for bigger roles.

[ And Marco leans in, lowering his voice. But it's unnecessary: there's a lot of noise that covers their conversation. ]

But I need your help on something. Normally I don't ask for handouts, but it's kinda important.

[hostage]

[Jesse fights a laugh at Marco's conspiratorial behavior, but he plays along, lowering his voice in accordance:]

Yeah? No problem. Whatcha need?

[ Marco smiles, as though he's getting the joke, but his eyes are dark and glittery.]

Something that only you provide.

[hostage]

[Well, that... catches Jesse by surprise. His eyebrows shoot up and this time he's serious about keeping his voice hushed.]

Like what kind of something?

gah, I thought I tagged this!

[ Marco smiles, even if it is a little grim. ]

Something I can use just in case I get a little in trouble. Been hearing some things around the rumor mill about my bosses from AGI, you know?

[ Marco had always had major suspicions about the producers and the director, but he's more concerned of the bigger fish within the company. ]

[Jesse doesn't usually do this in public. Nor does he usually arm children. But it's reasonable to be afraid of AGI and he's not about to turn Marco away.]

What about something that'll make the bad guys think they're in pain, but you ain't actually hurting 'em? Like an illusion. So there's no evidence, but you can get outta there if you need to.

Maybe.

[ Marco is not someone who liked to punch someone in the face in order to beat a quick escape. That usually gets the person even more furious at him. Plus, that kind of power doesn't sit right with Marco. ]

Is there anything that can allow me to slip by? Like, I don't know, standing still and no one can notice you?

[ Marco believes in discretion beyond anything else. ]

[Jesse thinks hard for a second, gnawing on his lower lip.]

...I'm fresh outta invisibility, but I got something else. It's gonna take some practice, you know, 'cause it ain't just tricking 'em into not seeing you. It's light manipulation. There's a lot you can do with it, but one of the things is bending the light so it goes around you and makes it look like you ain't there. You can also move at light speed, you know, so you could get the hell outta there.

[guerrilla_morph]

[ Oh, Marco likes that power. It seems to fit him well, better than the pain power Jesse described earlier. ]

Man, that power just screams me.

How much?

[hostage]

Nothing. I'll just give it to you.

[guerrilla_morph]

[ Marco was in the process of fishing out some cash from his jacket pocket when he heard Jesse's answer. He doesn't say anything, only gives Jesse a long and unbelieving stare.

No one gives something like this for free. This guy is obviously running something and Marco, with all his genius, knows that he's risking a good portion of something to get this power.

So, just like that? Give it to Marco? He calls bullshit. ]

[He sees that skepticism and meets it with a shrug.]

I mean it. Just keep quiet about where you got it.
