Growing in the landscape
Who: Castiel and Dean Winchester
When: Ambiguously now (5/08)
Where: Mary and Dean's apartment~
Summary: Castiel and Dean need to talk about things. Lots of things.
Warnings: PG-13 for SPN characters, but these two aren't likely to do worse than argue at most.
Castiel hadn't seen Dean for awhile.
It wasn't a surprise, really; here, he could go some time without seeing any of the Winchesters. There were tons of reasons for this, and even if Castiel and Sam were beginning to reconnect after everything that had happened, they had a shared ground to move forward from. With Dean...
With Dean there was holy fire, and a broken friendship, and only Castiel knew that side of it. It was awkward, uncomfortable, and Castiel didn't know how to proceed with Dean or how not to; he didn't know what to do or say around him, and with the history of the times he'd been here before, he was even more uncertain.
But though he'd given some time before contacting Dean after what happened to John, it was about time to. And not just that, but they probably should talk about other things as well, as Castiel was sure by now that Dean knew at least part of what had happened with Sam, and Castiel wanted to know exactly what that was.
He appeared, as usual, in a flutter of wings, materializing in an instant a few feet from Dean, staring at him. At least some things never changed.

He understood Dean's feelings; if there was somewhere he could hide, he would be tempted. Unfortunately moving across the island would get Dean nothing in the end.

He couldn't take care of everyone and here he felt like he had to. It was wearing on him. It showed in how he carried his weight and the expression on his face.

That's a pointed warning that he didn't care and he didn't want to know. He had to deal with enough of that when it came to his Mom, Dad, and Ben. Sure, it's a little harsh, but he knows Cas'll understand that the last thing he needs is shit that hasn't happened yet to worry about.

"There are good points, but yes." This place does suck, but there are moments of peace as well.

Dean walks off, holding up a hand to get Cas to stay where he is, and goes to check on Mary and Ben. Make sure they're okay.
When he comes back, he just looks tired.

Something that have been so rare for him, especially over the last two years, with the war. The only breaks he'd had in that had been when he'd been with the Winchesters or Crowley, and that had always been for some pressing reason as well. Standing around talking, drinking beer, is something he hasn't had the luxury of at home for a long time.
