Summary: Haruhi runs into Ella being mischievous at the mall. Things get more mischievous.

[Just another day, and Haruhi is headed to the mall to scout for anything interesting happening there. She's wandering around a little bit aimlessly, more preoccupied with plans than anything else, when suddenly she spots a familiar face looking a little more clandestine than usual.]

[ Naturally, Ella did not hear Haruhi yoo-hooing at her at first, because she was testing out a pair of headphones that were supposed to eliminate noise outside while listening to music. She ... isn't using it properly. BUT OH WELL. ]

I'm not sure these work for me - Let me finish my shopping and I'll come back to this. Thanks.

[ A quick smile to the sales clerk, and she turned, almost bumping into Haruhi. ]

Oh! Haruhi - when did you get here? [ She scooped up her bag of evil things as she greeted her friend. Kinda friend. ]

Just now! What about you? What do you have there, huh?

[Checking out this bag.]

Just a few things.

[ A few things she didn't have any problem with Haruhi checking out -- not that she could stop her. There were a few small packets identifiable as itching powder, sneezing powder, and some legitimately useful things, like some bottles of medicine - they were kept separate in different bags though since they were obviously from different stores. ]

What are you doing here?

I'm here all the time! This is a hotbed of people doing unusual stuff. It's called people-watching, you know. And I can tell you're up to something...!

Is it that obvious? [ She shrugged a little, sheepish. ]

I lost a bet with Hattie. [ That's her story and she's sticking to it. ] So I'm going to make the most of it.

[ By pranking her. ]

So what's that mean? What're you doing with this stuff? Itching powder? You're clearly up to no good!

It means that if my dear sister is going to rub the fact that I lost the bet in my face, then there's no harm in pranking her a little.

Back home I used to sneak spiders and mice into her bed, but it's a bit cold for spiders, I think, and I'm not letting my as yet unnamed little mousie out of the cage to get chased by that ...Lucifur of hers.

[ Okay so the cat's actual name right now is Cat, but that thing is a -DEVIL-. ]

So I figured I'd slip a little itching powder or sneezing powder in her makeup. Harmless, little stuff. [ Unfortunately she couldn't find any amnesia dust. She might have to ask on the network for it. ]

Wow, Ella! A cruel and vindictive streak... It makes you look a lot more interesting. But way too low-scale...

[she stares at the bag as if she's intending to transfer energy into it. ]

[ Ella raises an eyebrow at Haruhi. ]

Harmless pranks aren't cruel and vindictive. [ And that's all she was doing. But it left her a little doubtful, because if someone thought of it as cruel and vindictive - she didn't want to do it. ]

Forcing someone to do something they don't want to do ... THAT'S cruel and vindictive.

...Is that what she's doing, forcing you to do something? You shouldn't let people [not named Haruhi] push you around like that, Ella!

Think so? [ She grimaces slightly. Well, she'll be returning that to the counter soon enough. ]

Relax Haruhi [ you hypocrite ] it's only because of a bet. I lost it, so I have to follow the rules.

Yeah, it's just a mild form now, but I always thought you were the kind of mild-mannered person who would never retaliate. [EXCEPT WHEN YOU DUMPED WATER ON HER] Silly as that might be!

Do you always follow the rules all that time? You don't have to, you know.

I don't see much of a point to it most of the time. [ Except then, but you and Hattie TOTALLY were asking for it. YOU WERE OUT OF CONTROL. ]

Yes, I do. My mother raised me to follow the rules, and I'm not going to do otherwise.

Blurgh, Ella, do you know what a wet blanket is? Or do you not know what a non-wet blanket is like?

[She sighs.] But it's weird! Cause you always do weird things or crazy things when I ask you to. Therefore, there must be a spark of desire deep down inside you. Cultivate that spark, Ella! It's important.

A wet blanket is a wet blanket. It's pretty obvious from the name, isn't it?

I'd rather not. [ Stupid obedience spark. >:I Seriously, what even. ]

Metaphorically, I mean! You're determined to dampen the spirit of fun, outwardly. It was probably a poor upbringing.

Okay, let's start by spreading this stuff everywhere! [She points to the itching powder and whatnot.] Except you're gonna need a lot more of it than that.

[ella_of_frell]

[ Not... a good idea to talk about her upbringing. ]

Take it back. [ But despite the sharp response, she does comply. She has to. You want her to spread it everywhere, fine? She removes the packets from the bag and promptly flings them - still sealed - around the store. Probably accidentally smacking a few people, but oh well. ]

[...she's kinda confused because, well, throwing the packets around everywhere and then telling her to take it back seems kind of pointless. It'd be insulting if it wasn't just weird.]

I'm not gonna pick it up when you're just throwing it around like that! You need a target.

[ W-well in this case the 'Take it back" was to the comment about her upbringing. :D;; ]

Well, you realize it doesn't work if you don't actually open the packets, right?

...Me? I've been thinking about how to raise a ton of money!

[ She chuckles and nods at the first question. But MORE importantly, let's talk about you! :D ]

A ton of money for what? Are you organizing a charity?

Charity? No, I want to do something extravagant! Haven't 100% decided what yet, but it's gonna take a lot of money.

[Charity? Honestly.]

[ Oh yeah, how silly of her, thinking it was a charity event. PFF. ]

Like another party then? I think the last one you threw was pretty successful.

Yeah, that one wasn't bad! But I'm not thinking a party without a purpose. That one was speed dating, but there are more fun things to do than that.
