He flipped a telescoping magnetic grab stick into his hand, running through the basic design.
"I know it's different than a standard engine."
no subject
A smile over her shoulder. She caught the faintest whiff of that magic around him. It bothered her, but she couldn't ask without giving herself away. "Don't worry. This is something new, but what's life without a challenge?"
no subject
He smiled, leaning against one wall, simply because he was tired.
"I honestly would have no idea. I've never been in a position to know."
no subject
Mercy turned to look at him. That magic was bothering her. A lot, actually. More than she wanted to admit. Because it was like Gabriel, but most decidedly not. "You alright?"
no subject
He stretches slowly, pushing off the wall with his shoulders to arch his back, then rolling his shoulders forward. His back pops painlessly, but more notably - his much battered left shoulder doesn't. At all.
"My some of children has decided this is the week to need very hands on parenting."
no subject
"How many of Gabriel's brothers are staying here?" Better to be blunt and to the point.
no subject
"How did you know one of them lived here?"
no subject
She snorted. "And I've had personal experience with Gabriel's magic, which makes me a bit more aware of it."
She ignored the stick which seemed to almost pulsate. If nothing else, she had to keep that thing away from the Angels. Hard to do when it kept following her around.
no subject
He settled back against the wall. "Castiel was injured recently. His brother popped in to check on him and heal some of the injuries. And there are protective Sigils wrap around the house. Should there be trouble I can instantly banish an angel from the property or ward the house against them."
All true, though there was a lot of the story missing.
"And Chuck lives here. He's a prophet, so I suppose his powers coming from Heaven and the angels? I'm not sure."
no subject
Honestly, magic had particular smells to it and she could tell who it belonged to. She just wasn't sure how much she wanted to reveal just yet.
"I haven't met... wait. The guy in the wheelchair at the hospital." She'd seen and smelled him but nothing more.
She sighed. "I'm prying and you can tell me to keep my nose out, but the magic is on you. And not in a passive way. You're soaked in it, as if you've been the direct recipient of it."
It was obscuring his normal smell and annoying her senses.
no subject
He nodded. "Yes, that was Chuck. Michael tries to keep watch over him, I help."
He looked away for a moment, debating. He wasn't a skilled liar and Lucifer and he had recently gotten in a fight over it. "My shoulder was healed recently." But he was uneasy about how the conversation was going.
no subject
"Healing?" She has to ask. Because if it'd been healing, when she'd brought it up, she had a feeling he would've come out with that. "I see."
Nope her mouth is going to get her into trouble because he's acting like Adam, so she's going to treat him like an Alpha Werewolf. "Again, tell me to keep my nose out, but that's not all it is. You're coated in it. It's obscuring... you." Which was as fine as she could put it without telling him things she wasn't sure he would understand yet.
no subject
"Yes. It's taken a few decades of combat, and then roughly a year before I arrived here, it was separated, dislocated, and fractured. It healed very badly. More recently it was further injured." He wouldn't have mentioned it, simply because of who had done it.
"I've been taken care of Castiel." Stonewalling unless confronted. He wasn't explaining to others about Lucifer. He had promised to give him a head's up prior to it if it was at all possible.
no subject
"Fire, ash, blinding snow fresh from the sky and pain." She snapped out the words at him. They were everything she smelled rolling off of him. "With an undertone of ozone."
Mercy didn't know it, but she'd probably just outed herself right there. "It's all over you. And that doesn't sound like the Angel of Thursday to me."
Alright, so she'd been reading up on her angels. Having them here made her curious.
no subject
His eyes flicked to her bag.
"And where is your coyote?"
no subject
"What?"
Why was he looking at her bag like that?
no subject
"Your coyote. She's not here, and yet you said she would be tagging along." He was, in fact snooping now. Her sense of smell seemed far, far too good to not have feral's - or an animal's - senses.
no subject
She shrugged. "Back at the house. I decided against dragging her along."
no subject
He glanced back at her, mouth set to slightly amused. "I see. You said you knew Gabriel's magic." He paused, as if considering. "He's a trickster, in his world. Did you know? So are coyotes, according to lore. Anyway, mind if I ask how?"
no subject
She snorted. "I'm well aware of Gabriel's history." She shrugged. "He helped bring me back from the dead. When you're sensitive to magic, you don't forget it."
no subject
Mercy was getting more of an answer than anyone else had, simply because she wasn't directly in that world.
"I'm aware he uses and manipulates....well everyone. But he admits that. And I can live with that. I understand that."
He nodded.
"I'm not going to pry." Yet. "I just find it interesting that Gabriel helped out someone who has a pet coyote." But from his tone, he didn't believe that story.
no subject
Then she had to snort. "I also make these peppermint fudge brownies that he's addicted to." She shrugged. "He likes my baking, and I live with Anna."
no subject
"He managed to get himself cut off from my baking for a while." HE was still cranky with Gabriel for messing with his computers. He had boundaries. They were one of them.
no subject
"That's what worries me." Because it wasn't that different.
She ticked up an eyebrow. "Oh?"
no subject
"Why does it worry you?"
