((OOC: So! Please see the House of Awesome Metapost for info on the house. ANYONE not Lucifer can enter the porch - and while you CAN hit the buzzer to have someone meet you, you can ALSO just walk in! Remember folks, Lucifer CAN get on the roof, k? The inner door is only locked AFTER Sirens. Wander around the ground floor, or go visit people's apartments. The POOL cannot be gotten to without a resident though. If you want Danger Room time, please label your threads as Danger Room threads since it has limited access. Tag your subject line with the date and time, ok? And any warnings if needed. Castiel is the only angel with access to the levels lower than the pool, his apartment is Michael proofed, as is Magneto's office (which is also Gabriel proofed). Magneto's condo, the main kitchen, and some other places may be Hellhound Proof.))

"Do you want to learn?" Youko asked, curious about what he had said. He was a boy, but if someday she wasn't around, who would cook? "Huh? That was in..." The 40s? "How old is Mr. Michael?"

"I don't know," Loki replied, giving a dismissive gesture, "Old." A vaguely uninterested tone. "Not really, cooking is in the domestic sphere- women's work." Said with the casual certainty of someone whose culture is a bit sexist. "Though I don't mind helping you."

"Huh." Youko didn't pry further. If he didn't say how old, then it wasn't her business. "Are you sure?" she asked. She was having second thoughts of allowing him near the kitchen. He promised to behaved, but he could have a funny idea.

"Positive," Loki replied cheerfully. Of course, he promised to behave but he also tended to have poor impulse control problems. He wouldn't mean to prank- mostly, he would just take the opportunity if and when it presented itself.

Then apologize. He might even mostly mean it.

"You could take a seat and watch me first," Youko proposed with a nervous smile. "I'm not as good as my mom with this, but I got it memorized."

"You fear I will reset the measurements on the cups or perhaps turn the tastes into something else?" Loki asked. "Hey! Do you think people understand Japanese here? It seems like there's some universal language everyone is programmed to know, but wouldn't it be fun to talk about people right in front of them and them not know what we are saying?"

To his credit, Loki did move to sit down and just watch, first.

"Huh."

Youko just turned around and looked puzzled. "People don't talk Japanese? Aside of the common language, they sound like they were talking Japanese, sometimes." Sometimes when they weren't talking the common tongue, it sounded like that to her.

Thank god she had a valid excuse to ignore the other stuff about the food prank.

"I hadn't noticed either- I thought everyone was simply fluent in French- this being Canada and all- for a while," Loki replied with a one shoulder shrug, watching Youko as she moved about the kitchen.

"I realized it only after conversing with a few people in languages that were foreign to them and their homelands. Odd, isn't it?" But not entirely unexplainable. The All Tongue had the same sorts of properties. In a way. If you squinted.

"I guess," Youko said with a short nod. It made sense. It was a side effect of the Port. "It would be difficult to function if we didn't share the same language."

She tried to imagine what kind of chaos that would bring.

"And some might take advantage, I know I would," Loki replied cheerfully. At least he was honest about that. Pranks would be both more fun and less fun.

Youko gave him a sideglance. "I don't think that's a good prank," she said, "It's too... obvious."

"Sometimes," Loki said patiently. "The obvious pranks are the best because people expect them, so they let their guard down for just how nasty said pranks can be."

"...What if someone needs help or there needs to be a surgery in the hospital?" Youko asked. "Pranks are supposed to be fun, but without a common language there could be deaths..."

"Not everyone back home speaks the same language and there are surgeries and things," Loki replied with a huff. Of course he wasn't trying to get anyone killed, not really, but if one considered all of the possible consequences of everything, one might as well never leave their house.

"In the same area?" Youko asked, looking uncertain. She was thinking about the doctors that she met. Some Japanese and others seemed to be English or Americans...

"New York is a ... ah what is the term- melting pot," Loki replied with a faint shrug. "Many people who speak a language rather than that of the doctors. And many doctors whose native language is not English."

[reginagloriae]

"But they speak English, right? Somehow to work in the same building and attend patients." She wasn't so sure if it worked the same in this place.

[doeswhathewants]

"Oh the doctors- ah mostly. But the patients, not at all," He tipped his head. "Does everyone speak Japanese in Japan? I never did attempt to take the East over."

"Huh? Of course they all speak Japanese," Youko said, utterly ignorant if they didn't. She started to think about her personal circle. All spoke Japanese.

"Huh. Well, we had no problems with this in Asgard, the All Tongue solved them. One good thing Odin managed," Loki was perhaps a little sarcastic with that but all things considered, there was no bitterness or hatred.

The All Tongue? She was afraid to ask about that. "You don't like that Odin guy, do you?" she asked. She had no idea about Norse mythology, but she can detect sarcasm.

Loki huffed and hunched his shoulders, "He is my adoptive father. And a terribly good one- to my brother Thor but towards me... well, I was never really appreciated."

"...I'm sure he does, or why else would he adopt you?" Youko asked.

Loki gave her a flat look, "Because I went back in time, disguised myself as his father and told him a curse would befall him if he did not adopt the son of his slain enemy."

Youko gives him a 'are you kidding me' gaze. "Forget I asked."
