Bonding time...
Who: Ben Braeden and Dean Winchester
When: Fourth of July
Where: Near home
Summery: After Mary returns as well as the Beach party stuff. The boys are outside playing with sparklers and fireworks. Why? Cus...
Warnings: None for now...
It had been such a long day. Such a very, very long day. Ben had been having a LOT of issues lately that he had been keeping to himself. He was going to a summer camp like thing in the morning and coming back in the afternoons, but lately he didn't want to go. Mary was... well she was...
Yes, well everyone who had died so far had come back. They always came back. He learned that much so far. When the others got upset and angry and down, Ben stayed silent, just watching. He wasn’t sure how to deal with everything here. People leaving. People passing away in horrible ways. He saw it. He saw lots of it on the net work. He just... didn’t know how to deal with it.
He dealt with it by being good. By being VERY good. He would do as told and go to sleep when asked and go to camp and tried to get along with the super kids who tended to laugh at him. He ignored the problems with other kids his age here. There were a few people he got along with though, so it was okay but...
This had been the worst week ever. Just as bad as everyone getting sick the other month! With Mary back, and going to the beach today everything felt a bit better, but it was still the 4th of July... and he didn’t have his mom.
Staying with Dean tonight, even if it wasn’t the weekend, he seemed a bit more cheered right now. There were fireworks too, even if they can’t shoot things off at night, sparklers were at least fun. He waited, holding a small bag of sparklers and bounced a bit, looking around while he waited for Dean to get a lighter or something.
Today had been so very long, and it wasn’t even night yet, but it had been very good so far.

The party was kick ass, a perfect way to end a really shitty week. He spent time with Syrena, had more beer than he should've, and socialized. There was great food, better music. It was the first time he felt at home since showing up.
People kept getting picked off. First him, then Sam leaving, and finding out about his mom. He didn't do well with the unpredictable. He could face down monsters, wasting them was what he was good at and they never followed the same line but he was used to his family life being pretty even. Even without his parents around. Sam being gone threw him off balance and everything hit the fan after. He was happy for a break.
"You wanna light it yourself?" He's holding the lighter out to Ben. He figures the kid has a good head on his shoulders and won't burn himself or start screwing around with the fluid and the blue of the flame. "You go first," he holds up his sparkler. "I'll get mine later."

Taking it he gave a sharp nod, carefully flicked the lighter a few times, getting it on the third go, and held his sparkler to it, grinning bigger as it caught and snapped into a tiny explosion of mini sparks, shooting off here and there. He flicked the lighter out and automatically pocketed it in a back pocket, eyes on the bright light. He waved it a moment, then held it out to Dean, nodding to his.
“Light it with mine. Come on!” He laughed, watching Dean expectantly. There was something about bright lights and fire that could make any little boy smile, even if that little boy is in his thirties, right? Come on, how can you deny wanting to join in?

Dean brings his sparkler up and touches it to Ben's it snaps loudly and sparks to life just like his, sending fragments out over Dean's arm and onto the grown that glow and fizzle out.
"Happy 4th, buddy," Dean gives him a light shove. "This knocks sittin' on our asses at the apartment outta the water."

"Yeah it does! Everything is going great right now. Mary is back and the beach was actually fun, and I don't care how much some of the kids suck at Camp, we're learning to swim this week so I'm way ready for that!"
He said all this while drawing in the air with the sparkler. This was the best release of energy he'd been storing up forever. Since Mary popped back up nothing could slow him down. Hell, he'd sleep soundly tonight if he keeps it up.

He doesn't comment on his mom being back. He knows there's something wrong, something he can't fix and this was the distraction he needed to get his mind off of it.
