Closed log: Crow's Head Cave Exploration!

Who: Rue, Gohan, Ahiru, Franziska von Karma, Korra, Marco, Czeslaw Meyer, Sissel, Mercy Thompson and NPC's.
When: Beginning 9am on the 5th and lasting throughout the day
Where: The cave at Crow's Head Beach
Summary: An investigation into the creature of Crow's Head cave leads to an unexpected adventure for those involved.
Warnings: Mild violence, possible bad words? Nothing worse than a PG movie.

In the early morning light Crow's Head beach is largely deserted of beachgoers, though that will change in coming hours. Sun shines down on the sand and water, all around is the sight and sound of nesting blackbirds, the gentle rush of the waves up the distinctively shaped beach.

Nestled in a cleft between the cliffs lies the small dark entrance to the cave, awaiting those bold enough to venture inside.

Meet and Greet

[Outside the cave, here is the time to meet and greet your fellow explorers and organise any equipment you've brought. Those inclined to leadership may wish to try and put a plan into place and take charge of this disorganised enterprise.]

[Mercy had been out, roaming around for an early morning run on her own. She needs it after the last few days. However, she had smelled someone familiar and followed the scent.

She sniffs curiously at everything spread on the ground and at the people milling around. The children are Up To Something. Better they have a coyote along...

She sits just behind Rue's legs, nosing her hand for a pet.]

[Sissel didn't bring anything except for the red bandana tied around his neck. He sits in the sand, pawing it back and forth as though trying to get a feel for the strange substance beneath his feet, his tail flicking curiously as he watches the people gathering around.]

[When Korra arrives, she comes riding in on Naga's back at a speedy clip, kicking up sand in their wake. She's been up for hours, meditating and training, and now she's ready for a little adventure.

Closer to the mouth of the cave, Korra reins in Naga's speed, drawing to a halt a few yards away and hopping down. Naga will occupy herself while Korra does her spelunking. Adjusting her shoulder bag, she trots up to the growing group with a wave.]

[ He doesn't know why he's here.

When he organized a plan to take down Visser One, to kill his own mother and it looked like he succeeded, he did nothing but lounge around in depression, watching the television on mute, not caring the comings and goings of his dad going to work.

Here he is again, with a very dead mother and a so-not-missed mortal enemy, and what he is doing? Going on some wild goose chase. And if the rumors are true, that might be literal.

So here he is, in a tank top and jeans and sneakers, with an empty bag in hand. That's for the clothes he's gonna take off if he needs to morph. ]

[Even when wearing dungarees and a knapsack, looking ready for adventure, there's something very combed and buttoned down about Czeslaw. His newsboy cap is perched perfectly on his head. He pauses, crouching to tie his sneaker as he steals glances at the other kids, looking for Rue.]

Cave Entrance and Venturing Inwards

[Into the cave we head. The passage is narrow to begin with, prompting single file at first before widening the deeper you go. Look out for danger signs and graffiti from those who have come before.

After twenty feet or so it will open into a dreary chamber, there is the sound of running water to one side, an underground river and here and there in the rocks the glitters of treasures are to be found.

Watches, jewellry, old cans, nets, rusted bike wheels, picnic baskets... it's a surprising array of contents, maybe not what you expected. Maybe something more valuable lies towards the other side where the river flows...]

[ Drawn in black grease pencil, on the far wall of the junk chamber, is a large arrow pointing back towards the exit, presumably serving as a breadcrumb-type marker to prevent someone getting lost. ]

[ Beneath the arrow, the artist has added the words "TIMO WUS HERE". ]

Bottom of the River and Chasm

[After falling down a rushing underwater river you crash into a deep pool, looking round you realise the only way out is to climb the surrounding rock face to a broad ledge above. Teamwork will be needed to help those unused to climbing or who have been injured in the fall.

Once up on the ledge there is only one way to proceed, a narrow bridge of stone crosses a chasm, the bottom too deep to see in the darkness of the cave.]

[Througout her young life, dedicated to the pursuit of learning everything there was to learn about criminal law, there certainly hadn't been time for swimming lessons. It was not something she had ever regretted, or even really thought about... until now. She's taken in a great gulp of water the wrong way and coughed it back out again, and is doing her best to just keep afloat...although she's certainly not capable of truly directing her movement.]

Poor Sissel is yowling loudly, trying his best to keep afloat.]

Crystal Chamber

[The next chamber is a pleasant surprise after the wet danger of the last. The glimmer of crystals is all around in every colour you can imagine, softly glowing. It's beautiful, magical and, surprisingly, musical! Tap a crystal and a soft chime will emanate forth.

Just one problem, there doesn't seem to be a way out of here, though there does seem to be a side where a door should be. Inscribed on the wall next to it is a series of musical notes, a clue to get the door open?]

[Rue forgets she's wet and a little bruised as she looks inside this place. It's incredible... she hasn't touched a crystal yet, just looking at their beauty and the way they glow, helped by the light of her torch.]

Gosh...

Tidal lake

[Uh oh, it's our old friend water again. A deep underwater lake with a low ceiling needs to be traversed. This is quite daunting, it's no easy distance especially with being unable to see the bottom of the water.

Worst of all you'll quickly realise is that the tide is rising, bringing the water up to the level of the ceiling. It's now or never, swim as fast as you can!]

[ Screw water and screw this. Marco just stripped his clothes until there's nothing but bike shorts on and stepped into the water's edge, bringing the strap of his bag to his feet. Quickly submerging, he morphed.

Now there's a dolphin, with the strap of a bag secured between his jaws. ]

The Bone Room

[Finally! A chamber that seems relatively easy to get through. Perhaps a place to rest and take a break? Just don't mind those bones everywhere.

Wait what bones? Why fish bones, bird bones, empty shellfish and bits of trash here and there, even the jaw of what must have been a humongous shark. Bizarrely there are also cocktail umbrellas, many resting in empy eye-sockets.

But hey, at least the door is right there.]

[Well, at least there's no human bones, right? Always a plus. Gohan steps carefully around the bones for no reason in particular, blinking at the the cocktail umbrellas resting in eye-sockets. Okay, that's just weird.]

Rock Maze

[Will this ever end? At least you seem to be making progress. You'll be weaving your way through a honeycomb like maze of stone and coral, watch out for sharp edges!

When you reach the end there's just the eensy problem of choosing where to go next, there's two passages to choose from ahead. But how do you decide?

Remember what Gandalf said, always follow your nose.]

Crow-Man's Nest

[Well, here we are. It's the Crow Man's nest! You can tell by the fact it's the largest chamber yet, and that there is a nest, constructed logs of driftwood, sails and stolen clothing. All around are the objects the Crow-man has gathered in his time here, valuable and junk both. Jewellry sits with rusted tin cans, books are piled up inside a pram and an old scarecrow stands up proudly, wearing a bewildering array of clothing.

All this may be secondary though at the scene of the Crow-man himself, making distressed cries as two large and aggressive men move threateningly towards him.

Hometime

[Congratulations, you've escaped, it's late afternoon, not quite time for evening sirens thankfully. The beach is starting to empty out of sunbathers and the temperature is cooling. Take a minute or two to reflect and say goodbyes before you all head home.]

[If she could convince herself that it didn't hurt, then it wouldn't. She'd managed to make it out without the pain showing on her face; the dark and gloomy lighting had facilitated the process further. But now, with the adrenaline receding and the continued pain, she's starting to feel light-headed and dizzy, holding onto her injured arm with her right hand. She should really call her father, because he's going to find out anyway.

Yet she keeps putting it off.]
