Who: Jake and the Auto Responder
When: Waaaay back when they actually switched back to their own bodies. So pretty darned backdated.
Where: Alpha house
Summary: They... switch back! And Jake probably gloats.
Warnings: They both curse, also probably inappropriate references because 16 year old boys...

Jake probably should have expected something when he actually woke up for once. It had been a week since he'd been able to fall asleep at all, considering it seemed AI programs didn't need to actually sleep. Kind of funny considering computers had sleep modes. Still, as Jake slowly woke up, he stared blankly at a wall for several minutes, before raising a hand to rub his eyes.

That was around the time he really woke up, trying to sit and stand up at the same time, while also pushing himself forward. All this really did was cause him to tumble out of his bed onto the floor with a painful thud, and goddamn did that hurt. It really, honest to god hurt, and that fact alone had Jake cracking up, rolling around on the floor like some sort of madman.

Out of all the things to miss banging your head into the ground probably shouldn't be among them, but he did. He'd been stuck without nerve endings for long enough, and he'd take the pain gladly!

Eventually he stopped wallowing on his floor like a dog who found a particularly nice pile of something gross and rotting to roll in, and sat up again, reaching for the nightstand where he'd left the AR (where the AR has technically left him) the night before, and slid the sunglasses onto his face.

He cleared his throat and wiggled a little on his seat on the floor.

"So... Looks like everything's back the way it should be!"

This was going to be an awkward conversation after everything that had happened.

Looks that way. |

Jake isn't the only one who is particularly thrilled. 'Oh no, poor auto-responder, he must feel so unhappy now that he's stuck back in his fashionably awesome glasses!'. Hahaha, yeah fucking right. He doesn't miss the inordiante number of limbs, the limited thought capacity or the constant headaches from it. He doesn't miss the abysmal processing speeds or how fucking pointless it is to have to actually walk to get somewhere.

He doesn't miss having to eat, he doesn't miss having to sleep. He missed the distance of his internal processors, the cold calculations and the unlimited space. He doesn't regret it by a long shot, but if he was offered a chance to turn human indefinitely? He wouldn't even have to think on it he'd shoot that wad so fast.

The correct term for his grin would be 'heart-melting', thanks. Or it would be if the auto-responder wasn't already totally over his feelings, which he is. So yeah it probably is actually obnoxious disregard this entire narrative tangent. Feelings are for dumb meat people.

I'm sure you would. Be the hero, punish the bad guy, get the girl.

He does a network crawl, picking out any relevant pieces of information and filing them away for later. They weren't the only two to have woken up in someone else's body, judging by all the distressed network transmissions. It doesn't look like anyone is owning up to being responsible. Nobody else has any clues, either. He hits a wall distressingly soon.

Feelings are a hindrance. Things like hysteria, depression, anger; those things hold you back and he's done away with them, written them out of his own code with nothing more than his willpower. He's analytic and realistic, he doesn't get caught up over things that are never going to happen.

Feeding the deranged is always a good direction to go. How are you going to find the obstinate jackhole in question? Shall I prepare the search montage? Set it to a jazzy and upbeat track suggesting that the entire endeavor was uninteresting a journey as anything and the goal was the only reward gained? Could make a whole day of going around doing inane shit for no reason.

He'd been damn wrong about that. The auto-responder had felt everything; every scathing comment, idle retort, accidental insult. Absolutely everything provoked some kind of emotional response from him, subtle as a lot of them are. Talking technicalities, he is pretty much just a bodyless brain stuck inside a pair of ridiculously rad anime shades.

You seem pretty confident in the abilities of our dear, sweet gumshoe. Think she's gutsy enough for the task?
