The Seyrunn Shop of Sorcery had two selling points that distinguished them from other magic shops in the city: the magic amulets with spells pre-loaded into them, and Brass Rackets - a sport from the co-owners' world that used enchanted rackets. Neither item required magic ability. Other wares in the shop, such as their selection of magical herbs, ritual items, and other supplies, were for people who were actually magic users. However, the amulets could be used by anyone as a self-defense item against the Darkness monsters, and the rackets depended on the user's strength of will and force of personality.

At the moment, Phibrizzo was placing some of the magic amulets in a sturdy clear glass cabinet that locked. Spotting someone approaching him from the side, he turned to greet them.

"Hello. What can I do for you, today?"

Phibrizzo grabbed a racket and a ball for the blonde girl to try and explained the basics of the sport as he lead her to the back room.

"The rackets are enchanted and they're powered by the strength of a person's willpower and the force of their personality. There's a practice dummy for you to attack with the ball - in Brass Rackets you try to hit your opponent with the ball, and if you're good at controlling the racket, you can make the ball do all sorts of things. Spin around the head, under the legs and around back...that kind of thing. You're supposed to try to knock the other person over."

Alouette followed along, gladly accepting the racket. She continued to look it over, though, as it was pretty unusual, and only looked more unusual the more he explained how the sport worked.

"Willpower and personality? Well, hitting people with the ball sounds.. Interesting." It didn't click just yet that it would be the same goal for her opponent, since hers is just a dummy.

Not really certain what kind of posture to take, she focused on the dummy for a moment, and the hand grasping the racket took a light glow, said light shifting to the ball once tossed.

Following an amateurish swing, the ball flew off to the side, bounced to the floor, then rolled into the corner. Quite anti-climactic.

"I- Impossible! I have more personality than that!" she cried, "This thing is broken, give me another!"

Phibrizzo was fairly certain the racket was not broken, but he dutifully retrieved another racket for the girl.

"Here, try this one," he said, while examining the one she'd just been using. "You might need to try focusing harder on hitting the target. You have to really want to do it, you know?"

Alouette accepted the second racket, and gave a bright smile off approval while looking it over, "Ahhh, mercie monsieur shopkeep! This looks and feels much better.."

Of course Phibrizzo knew she had no idea what she was talking about, even as she took a few practice swings. There wasn't anything wrong with the other racket!

So all must do is 'really' want it? Hmnn. Ok, if I hit the target, I will have Recette buy me a large slice of cake! The blonde dribbled the ball a couple of times then, with a toss and a swing, there was a brighter light. The ball ripped forward and nailed the dummy right in the gut area with a *whump*

"Aaaah!" Alouette's eyes lit up, so very proud of herself.

"I wish you'd been around when we were looking for people for the public demonstration, miss," Phibrizzo remarked. She'd learned quite quickly, which would have been good for encouraging people to give them a try. It also would have been hilarious to see someone take a hit like that from a small girl.

He tested out the racket he'd taken from her, slamming a ball at the head of the practice dummy.

"I guess that racket was better suited to you than this one."

Alouette brushed a lock of hair behind her ear. "That is unfortunate, but should you hold another demonstration, I would be more than happy to take part. Is this a recently introduced sport?"

She wasn't really sure why, but the idea of being a brass rackets star tickled her fancy. Once the boy displayed his ability, though, she couldn't help but feel a little annoyed. "O- oui.. That must be the case. *cough* So, is this a one on one sport?"

"It's less than a month old in Siren's Port," said Phibrizzo in regard to her first question. He hoped to make it successful, but he was aware that he might have to wait until the following spring before it really took off. But if he could introduce it to the public, perhaps they might buy it as gifts for that holiday...what was it called again? Christmas? That holiday where people spent ridiculous amounts of money buying presents for people.

The annoyance was a nice tasty snack for one who fed on negative emotion as he did. He soaked it in for a moment before addressing the next question.

"Traditionally, it's a two on two sport, with one male and one female on each team. But it can be played one on one, too, and we saw no reason to make it a rule that the two on two games had to be one male and one female, here."

Alouette listens to everything with interest. It'd certainly be a fun way for her to keep fit, it looks like, but there were some complications on her end.

"That is quite interesting! I would be interested in taking part of something like this, however.." the blonde cringed, "I am new, so at the moment my funds are limited toward your 'essential' goods. Perhaps you could place this racket on hold for me, should you provide such services?"

"We actually don't offer holds," said Phibrizzo. "But we're pretty careful about our stock, and of course you'll be allowed to try a racket out before buying it."

They might offer holds on more expensive items in the future, for their regular customers. In the meantime, it seemed better to sell the stock to whomever wanted to buy it.

Enjoy that annoyance, Phibrizzo? Have a little more once she's told that you don't have such a service! However she realizes she's in no position to be a brat, and eventually comes to terms with it, "I suppose it cannot be helped. Well, perhaps there will be an even better racket waiting for me once I have the money to spend."

She hopes.

"Now then, back to business! I had noticed you have amulets for purchase. They look like something I could use, what do you have in terms of selection?"

Delicious, delicious annoyance. He took it in while continuing to be a small professional. When Alouette brought up the amulets, he led the way to where they were assembled.

"We have four different kinds, each with spells pre-loaded into them. The more spells per amulet, the more expensive it is. But they are refillable, and it's less expensive to purchase the refills if you come back for them."

They were unwilling to fill up other people's magical amulets for several reasons. For one, it wasn't good business practice, particularly when this was their original concept. For another, they didn't want to trust anyone else's workmanship. Thirdly, they didn't want to risk legal liability, which tied into the second reason.

"The four kinds are ice, fire, wind, and astral plane spells - those can knock out a person if they make a direct hit, or they can kill low level darkness monsters with one shot."

"Ooooh?" Alouette looked even more interested in the amulets once she's provided more detail. Now the only problem is working with her limited budget. "I must say, that is a very clever and unique system, Monsieur shopkeep. The amulets that I sold back at home don't work this way at all, though."

She picked up each amulet to inspect it closely, taking a few moments to decide which might provide the best protection for her money troubles. "I presume, then, that the astral plane spell is the most expensive, non? Which do you recommend, and at what price?"

"The amulets are priced according to how many spells are pre-loaded into them," said Phibrizzo. "Wind spells are the least expensive, fire and ice spells are equal in price, and then you're right, the astral plane ones are the most expensive."

Although he didn't charge that much more for them, because he still wanted people to purchase them. Giving what could be perceived as a bargain was important for attracting customers, but if it was too much of a bargain, people would write it off as being cheap and worthless. It was a balance he was learning about, and the experience of being a businessman was interesting enough to keep him engaged and busy.

"Hmn very well.. I wish to purchase a fire amulet with five charges, please." Alouette decides.

It wasn't a simple conclusion either, and probably not even a very good calculation; but she decided the best she could do for now was go straight for the middle and hope it would be enough to last her a month.

"All right, that will be thirty dollars," said Phibrizzo. "You can refill the amulet with five charges for twenty dollars when you come back."

He unlocked a cabinet, took out an amulet with five charges in it, and included instructions on how to cast the spell on a piece of paper as well. The amulet was wrapped tidily in tissue paper and sealed with tape inside a tiny box.

"To cast the spell, aim at your target and say 'flare arrow', nice and loud. The spell will do the rest. If you know how to use a bow, aiming the spell that way might be a good idea. Otherwise, you can aim it like you're throwing a spear, or by pointing with your hand. The instructions have been included."

"Thirty dollars.." Alouette repeats. It was impossible for her to tell how good a deal that was, so she'd go along with it this time. She took the money from her purse and paid up before taking the amulet.

After getting the instruction, the girl looks pretty pleased, "I see, that is rather simple! Thank you very much for your help, monsieur shopkeep. Perhaps we'll meet again."

"Enjoy your amulet, miss," said Phibrizzo. "And don't forget to read over the instructions one more time before you try using the spell."

The instructions also contained safety information and disclaimers absolving the Seyrunn Shop of Sorcery of responsibility for anything other than a defective amulet. It included a warning to not subject the amulet to blunt trauma. While they could handle being dropped or banged into without any problem, there were people with superhuman strength and Phibrizzo wasn't sure of exactly how much force the amulets could take without breaking.

"Of course I will! Oh, and expect a critique when I do return." Alouette warned with a smirk; though Phibrizzo likely has the utmost confidence about the amulets and isn't at all worried about a 'poor' review.

She isn't the type to use things without reading instructions first; which is especially good since things are so technologically advanced now. So she gave the young shopkeep a curtsey then went along her merry way.
