October New Arrivals!
Who: October Arrivals, Greeters, NPC recruiters & anyone else who happens to be hanging around the Tower Apartments to 'welcome' newcomers.
When: Throughout October, 2012 (Please Specify Date & Time in Thread Header)
Where: The Sector 4 Baseball Diamond, Parking Lot & Lobby of the Tower Apartments
Summary: This is your catch-all one stop log for arrival interactions! New Newcomers can also meet and mingle in the apartment lobby.
Warnings: Nausea, potential for violence, language- add on any warnings or ratings as they come up.
It feels like a whiplash, like being plucked up into the sky and sucked through a very tight dark space before being deposited rather roughly in the City. Your character will be disoriented, dizzy, slightly nauseous, and very sore upon arriving in Siren's Port It is your choice whether your character arrives during the safety of the day or the danger of night.
Until recently, no one knew why, but every new arrival from another world gets deposited in the dead center of an ill-kept baseball diamond.
Some of the fences and signboards have been replaced with information and welcoming signs, posted by Newcomers as encouragement. However, from time to time some form of degrading graffiti'd tag might appear here or there, 'Go Home!' or 'Now You're Fucked, Newmeat' 'Welcome to Sirens Port, Population: Too Many to Add One More' and 'Attention Newcomers: Please wait here till sunset sirens to receive your welcoming package! =) ')
A person is thrown from their pull somewhere within the fenced-in baseball field, either in the dirty infield or tossed rolling into the overgrown dirty outfield. A recent fire has charred the left side of the outfield, and grass is only starting to grow back.
Standing on second base and facing home plate, one will see a rotten, old and deteriorating backstop and chain link fencing, much like any little league baseball field. Broken down bleachers made of worn out green painted wood can be seen in disarray behind this, and some old trees line the wall and fencing along the right side.
To your left is a walled in Dugout with a secured door. The dugouts are made of thick concrete and set low into the earth. This one has been outfitted as a safe place to enter during the night to hide and wait out the morning. Sometimes Greeters can be found here, waiting for people to show up. The Dugout to the right has also been cemented over and secured with a heavily guarded and armored door.
The Baseball Diamond is held by the Neutral Government, allowing greeters access to the infield to retrieve new arrivals. However, the small building constructed over the right dugout is still guarded heavily by government-controlled Voids, to block public access to the Core. Those who cooperate with greeters will be treated fairly and be given helpful information, lead to the Tower Apartments and offered a month's lodging. Those who put up a fight will be met with Voids and detained by police.
Just beyond the fence, in the Tower Apartments parking lot and lobby, SERO and AGI recruiters will be passing out informational leaflets presenting company propaganda, including discounted coupon booklets and travel-sized toiletries as a "Newcomer Welcome Package".
Other then the lights around the Core dugout, there is one single electric light above home plate that remains on, even in the Darkness. There is an open walkway near the dugouts that leads into the parking lot of the Tower Apartments. The front doors of Tower One are always kept unlocked, but you had best close them again quickly if you slip inside during the night. The office of the Landlord is well marked near the lobby, and you'll receive keys there.
The second tower is abandoned, it looks like there was some kind of bombing. Asking around, you might hear about the anti-newcomer movement and an attempt to blow up both towers. Explosive charges were set up in the elevator shafts, back in January. Tower Two's weren't disabled in time, so the building is taped off, and you'll be advised not to go wandering in there- it's no doubt structurally unsound, though the first tower still stands tall and (mostly) functioning.
Though temporary housing services are funded by SERO and AGI, they are now run buy the Newcomers themselves. With heavy funding and support contacts from both companies, the building is in a state of slow remodeling.

Re: 10/3 - late afternoon/early evening
Fuck off!
[Yeah, she's pleasant right now.]
Ginger tea works. Oh. And you apparently know my name for whatever reason, but who are you, again?
[Jane blinks at the offered hand--why is this girl acting so chivalrous? But she can barely see straight, so she takes it to help herself onto the curb.]
Yeah. Siren's Port...you said that already. I'm from New Mexico, actually. Mexico's not far off, though. Just the wrong side of the border.
[She ignores that comment about Yosuke's arm being bigger the day before because what? She can't even think about that right now. Jane walks in to the building, looking around, eyeing the stairwell door with disdain. Smoking cigarettes didn't lend well to climbing flights of stairs. Neither did being in a bit of a heroin-stupor, though it was quickly wearing off.]
Um. No. I think we'd both end up in a heap if you tried to carry me, no offense. I'm fine to walk.
[Jane takes the lead pulling open the staircase door and heading up to the seventh floor. She doesn't know where she's going but that doesn't stop her from staring up the stairs.]
So...do you know how I got here? Assuming this is Canada and not some figment of my imagination. Though I wouldn't be surprised...
Re: 10/3 - late afternoon/early evening
[He shrugs, and follows Jane's lead. Up is the right direction, so sure, whatever.]
I'm Hanamura Yosuke, by the way. And this is real. Trust me, it's the kind of nightmare you don't just wake up from in the morning.
[Except that isn't very reassuring, is it? He frowns a little, and rubs at his side. Ow. Ovaries are the worst. But it doesn't hold his attention for too long, he's busy walking backwards and looking Jane over again, trying not to stare too obviously at the parts of her that make a little thrill run up and down his spine.]
I'm glad you came back. And I know you don't remember, but I'm sorry about what I said before.
[Flushing a little, he spins around quickly and darts up the next few steps, hoping maybe she'll just take that at surface value and let it go.]
Re: 10/3 - late afternoon/early evening
The Core. Sure.
[It's okay, she just thinks you're a little crazy. Or maybe she's a little crazy. Or a combination of the two.]
Do you have a nickname or something?
[What a mouthful. Jane notices the way this girl is looking her over like some sort of peach ripe for the picking. It's a little disconcerting and she starts to doubt whether she should be following her at all. And then the idea that she's trapped here. It's enough to cause a slight panic to rise, but before she lets it get out of control, she pretends this is, in fact, all a nightmare despite Yosuke's words.]
Okay, seriously? I have no idea what you're talking about. But sure. Whatever.
[She just wants this pounding headache to go away and her stomach to settle and something to wear and her man, okay? All this stuff about things she doesn't remember is starting to wear on her. so she says what she figures Yosuke wants to hear. Maybe that'll make it stop. She follows Yosuke, huffing and puffing (thanks, cigarettes) by the time they reach the seventh floor.]
Re: 10/3 - late afternoon/early evening
[The girl gets to the top first, and bounces impatiently on the balls of her feet until Jane is there as well. She's a bundle of nerves and energy, and maybe dancing just a bit to whatever is thumping softly from those headphones around her neck.]
Okay, great! I feel lighter just thinking about it.
[Theoretically lighter, that is. She's already light enough to blow over in a strong gust of wind. But she doesn't seem too sickly. In fact, she can barely hold still, apparently. She pulls a key out of her blouse and opens the door to her apartment, then makes a "ladies first" sort of gesture at Jane.]
Home sweet home, sort of. C'mon in. It looks like Keichi is out. Maybe that bastard learned his lesson when I knocked a few teeth loose, eh?
Re: 10/3 - late afternoon/early evening
[Jane finally reaches the top step and lets out a sigh, pausing because her heart feels like it's going to explode and her lungs are burning something terrible. Everywhere she went was only a floor or two or had an elevator, so this was unusual.]
What, they never heard of an elevator in this Siren's Port?
[Jane thinks Yosuke is just being polite, not noticing the whole 'ladies first' thing. Since Jane just assumes Yosuke is the girl that she looks like.]
I still have no idea what you're talking about. But, thanks. For letting me come here, I mean. What did Keichi do, anyway?
[Jane asks, curious. She's not always one to divulge information about herself but she likes to know who she's hanging around. She can't sit still, though, and just stands, pacing every so often, her hands never leaving the purse she's clutching.]
Can I smoke in here? I could really, really use a cigarette. Wait...if I was here before, does Jesse know I'm gone? Or back? Or...anything? Last I know I was in his apartment. Laying down. And then I woke up on that baseball field.
[He's pretty much at the forefront of her mind right now, sorry Yosuke. Jane's starting to feel stressed and ill. It's the heroin wearing off and the disorientation of being here. And of course...that pull sickness. It was creeping up on her and getting worse with the passing moments.]
Re: 10/3 - late afternoon/early evening
[Yosuke fidgets for a moment, uncomfortably. He cups his breasts, and frowns a little. They're small breasts, they don't even fill his hands, but he still folds his arms over them protectively, blushing.]
He tried to touch them. Ugh. Like I would really let him do that.
[Jane's request gets a nose crinkle, but he considers it. Is she allowed to smoke in there? Nope. But considering how much the girl has been through, would it really hurt to let her have that one vice? He starts to answer her, but something warm drips down his leg, and he goes pale, horrified. Oh, shit. Not that again. Jeez, being a girl is miserable sometimes...]
H-hold that thought, I'll be right back! Um. Make yourself comfortable, please. I-I'll bring you some clothes.
[And he darts away to the bathroom, leaving Jane alone to have a look around. There isn't much to see, really. A television and sofa, some video games. There aren't any decorations, and the cupboards are all pretty empty if she happens to open any of them. There's a general essence of lightly soiled sweatsocks and old semen hanging in the air. It smells like teenage boys in there, in other words.]
Re: 10/3 - late afternoon/early evening
[Okay, that gets her attention.]
Bombed like how long ago? And doesn't usually happen? Is this place at war or something? Because last time I checked, things were pretty peaceful in Canada.
[Jane arches a brow at the way Yosuke is fondling her breasts like...she never had them before or something. Okay, what is going on?]
Well, good then. He deserved to have the piss smacked out of him.
[There's a smug look on her face. Jane likes hearing about young women who've stood up for herself. She'd been there. And she didn't take shit from anyone. Not anymore.]
Okay, thanks..?
[Jane's voice raises in an upward inflection. She has no idea what's going on with Yosuke, so her sudden stammering and scrambling to leave the room leaves her just as confused as she's been this whole time. Once Yosuke leaves, Jane sets her bag down, finally, on the arm of the couch. She pokes around quietly, being a little nosy but not tearing through the place or anything. She picks up one of the video games, smiling and running her fingertips over it. It reminds her of Jesse. Video games and superheroes. The scent of the place doesn't bother her, though she does notice it. No, Jane's been in places that have smelled worse. Much worse. Jane is suddenly very aware, as she gets over the shock of her "entry" into Siren't Port, that she's wearing very little clothes. And the clothes she does have on are filthy from her little roll in the mud. It's Jesse's shirt, though, and as she pulls the collar up to her face, it still smells like him. Jane goes back to the couch but doesn't sit because her clothes are mud-caked.]
Yosuke? Do you have a phone charger or anything?
[Jane calls out while she is taking out her cellphone, pulling the battery out and then replacing it, trying again to turn it on. It could be an iffy piece of technology sometimes. The battery got loose after dropping it one too many times. She takes out a cigarette and lights it. Jane was craving one badly enough to go all the way down those seven flights just to light one up if Yosuke hadn't allowed her to smoke.]
Re: 10/3 - late afternoon/early evening
[The girl makes an expression that's rather comical on her delicate face, and nods.]
Yeah, he'll think twice next time. Uh, I have one, yeah. Will a micro chord fit it?
[It takes a handful of minutes for Yosuke to get back after he excuses himself-there are some things that just aren't easy to get used to- and he's limping slightly when he does, though he doesn't seem any more sickly or injured than he was before he left. He's also got the charger, and the clothes that he promised Jane.
Except...they're men's clothes. Boy's clothes, maybe. The jeans meant for a long, thin frame. The shirt not big enough to stretch over a pair of breasts without warping, the jacket loose and heavy, the shoes too big for a girl Yosuke's size. It all gets set before Jane anyway, with a funny little bob of a bow.]
You can shower if you want to. The yellow towel is mine, and so is anything that smells like citrus. Um. I know some of that will be a little short or tight and some will be too big, but it's close enough, right? Maybe Pinkman still has a few things of yours from before. You can ask when we get there. Uh. I'll put on the tea while you get cleaned up.
Re: 10/3 - late afternoon/early evening
[Jane nearly drops her cigarette in shock, but gets a hold of herself. This was a lot to take in in this short a time.]
I think so...I don't know. It's just this Samsung...
[Jane holds out her phone so Yosuke can look over it and determine whether or not the charger will fit. In the meantime, she moves off of the couch so she can look over the clothes set on the table. Not exactly her first choice, but she knows she's in no position to be picky right now.]
Yeah, I definitely could use a shower. Get there? You mean Jesse has a place out here?
[Jane is confused, but she needs to get changed before anything else, so she nods and thanks Yosuke for everything, gathering up all of the clothes and heading off to the bathroom. Jane grimaces as she strips out of her clothes--the oversized t-shirt and then her boyshorts falling to the floor. She's filthy and sore, nauseous and strung-out, but she's alive. And she's going to find Jesse. And she's convinced he'll tell her what's really going on. She trusts him.
After way longer than she should take, Jane is finished showering. She pulls on Yosuke's clothes. The jeans fit easily, but the shirt exposes some of her stomach. She's small, and even though she's not overly endowed, she still has breasts and they make the shirt hike up a bit. Jane manages the shoes even though they don't quite fit, and she's practically swimming in the jacket, but it keeps her warm. Afterwards, she cleans up the bathroom and heads back out to find Yosuke.]
Well, it's not exactly a fashion statement, but it'll work for now.
[There's an amused playfulness in her tone that wasn't there before. Sometimes you have to make the best of the worst.]
Re: 10/3 - late afternoon/early evening
[There's an eyeroll that Yosuke turns to cover up. It's not Jane's fault her boyfriend is an asshole, after all. Yosuke studies the phone a bit, then decides the best way to try it out is just to plug it in and see how well it works.
The clothes, on the other hand, make him smile in spite of himself and his horrible new ovaries. Jane looks pretty damned cute in his things, if he says so himself. He's never worn those jeans half so well, and even if his shirt is probably ruined, it's worth it a thousand times over for that cute flash of belly it exposes. He chuckles a little.]
You look great, don't worry.
Re: 10/3 - late afternoon/early evening
[That's...odd. Jane could have sworn it was just a day before she'd been laying next to Jesse. Maybe she had been knocked out for longer than she thought.
It's a good thing Jane can't read minds, Yosuke.]
Thanks.
[Jane hears the tea whistling in the kitchen and helps herself to getting everything set up, pouring two cups because that was the least she could do for someone helping her out like this. Nothing came free to her. After some searching, she finds the ginger tea and plunks a bag into each mug, carrying them carefully back into the room. One is handed to Yosuke, the other brought to her lips and blown on before she takes a sip.]
So...what's there to do around here?
[She might as well attempt some easy conversation because she still can't understand what the hell is going on.]
no subject
Jesse, however, has completely forgotten about his new look. He goes running to Jane's side, reaching for her hand.]
Jesus... What happened? Are you okay?
no subject
Fucking knock will you?
[He doesn't use the word often, and he definitely doesn't use that tone-startled and still half strangled, embarrassingly high pitched. Scared. Genuinely freaked out- but his heart's still hammering in his chest, and his legs are shaking even while he's crouched on the floor.]
Shit...my heart. Ow.
[Not that he expects anyone to be paying attention to him at the moment. They shouldn't be. It's a reunion. Again. As soon as his knees stop trembling he can get up and tiptoe out and let them-oh. Double shit.
His eyes wander over to Jane, to see how she's taking this. He's probably not the only one who didn't recognize Pinkman just now, come to think of it.]
no subject
I don't know, I don't know. I-I was in bed...in your apartment, next to you and then I woke up in this baseball fi---
[Yeah, about that time, mid-sentence, Jane realizes that what she's been hearing isn't the raspy, gravelly voice she was so used to hearing. Jane raises her dark eyes to meet Jesse's. Well, who she expects to be Jesse. Instead, she's greeted with a softer, feminine face, not to mention a shaved head she didn't recognize and...Jesse wouldn't wear those clothes in a million years. Yeah, she was convinced this was all one major trip.]
Who the hell are you?! Where's Jesse?
[Jane wrenched her hand free. It wasn't that she was trying to be a bitch, but she was coming down hard, suffering from pull sickness, and completely disoriented. Jane was used to having her feet planted on the ground...at least she was before she relapsed. But, relapse or not, she was used to knowing what she wanted, how to get it, and what she was doing. This whole...rug being pulled out from under her situation just wasn't cutting it.]
no subject
Oh shit. Oh my god.
[He backs away, putting his hands up. See? The weird girl means no harm.]
Jane. It's me. I swear to god. I know I'm, like, a girl. Right now. But I swear, I'm Jesse. There's just... some really weird stuff going on right now. Don't freak out.
no subject
Yeah. Um, really weird is an understatement.
[When Jesse's hands are in the air, she gets a peek of a tattoo and it makes her step forward, taking his(?) right hand in her grasp and pulling it down, tracing the tattoo here. It was on a more slender figure, but she'd recognize it anywhere.]
Jesse? Is it seriously you...
[She's skeptical, but at that moment, Jane's eyes raise to Jesse's and those are something she could never forget--that blue that took her breath away. And a lot of weird things have been going on. Why not add one more, right?]
What happened to you? This...none of this makes any sense..
[Then that 'don't freak out' comment. Right. About that, Jesse.]
Don't freak out? I'm here...in some kids clothes that don't even look like they'd fit her. After crash landing in a baseball field in Canada. Then come to find out, the guy I fell asleep next to is suddenly some girl. And I'm not supposed to freak out?
no subject
[But now that his hand is in Jane's, he clasps it tightly, reassuring as he looks into her eyes.]
There's no explanation that won't sound completely crazy right now, so let's just... I mean, the important thing is you're okay. But you don't remember - You don't remember before, do you? Rehab or anything? You're from that night...
no subject
You don't look half bad as a woman...
[The smirk fades after a few moments. Maybe it'll be funny in a few days when shit actually makes sense. Right now, it's the high still wearing off and she's feeling sluggish, nauseous, and confused.]
Rehab, yeah. I mean...we told my dad we'd go today, remember? But then we were just gonna' take off and then...
[She furrows her brows, eyes narrowed as she tries to remember, but can't.]
I don't know, everything's fuzzy...
no subject
Hey, we made it, right? We made it all the way to magical Canada. Ain't New Zealand, exactly, but...
[He can feel tears coming on. He stops for a second, staring down at the ground, focused on not allowing the smile to slip from his face. Then he looks at her again.]
I know it seems like we were just together, like we were just in bed. But it's been more time for me than it has for you, okay? I know that don't make sense, but... You and me, we were just in rehab. Together. And I dunno what happened, I dunno how they lost you, but - We should go back. We should go back right now, before you start feeling too sick.
no subject
It's fine. We'll make it work. I mean, we'll make it anywhere as long as it's the two of us, right?
[Major deja vu. Jane pulls back. She has no idea what's happened in this apparent 'time warp' or what Jesse's been through, but she can tell it's been rough.]
Go now? Like, go to rehab right now?
[It's a terrifying thought for her. Commitment. Making a pact to do something.]
I don't know...I just. [A sigh] We were going to do this together, right? Can't I just...ride it out? Detox?
[She doesn't trust rehab considering it's worked out oh so well for her in the past.]
no subject
He looks into her eyes again as she pulls back. His guilt must be written on his face. He tries to school it back into a smile.]
I can't - I ain't gonna tell you what to do. But I don't... know if I can do it. I messed you up before. That makes me the worst person, right? Like, the absolute last person who should be in charge of looking out for you. And detox... It's gonna be hard, doing that at home.
[But each argument sounds weak. He doesn't want to convince her to go. He wants her to stay with him.]
no subject
I messed myself up. A long, long time before I met you, Jesse. You tried to make me leave. I stayed because I wanted to. I got high because I wanted to. You didn't put that pipe in my hand. Not you or anyone else.
[It was a speech she'd made before, to her father. He felt just as guilty as Jesse, it seemed. Felt responsible. Jane didn't buy any of it. Nobody made her decisions but her. She takes a breath and her tone relaxes. Those eyes are killing her.]
How long have I been gone? I can see it in your eyes, it's been a while, right? I'm not leaving...not leaving you again. Detox is hard, yeah. Life's hard. It'd be pointless if it wasn't.
[There is a matter-of-fact nature to her tone. She might be regretting it later, hunched over the toilet, shivering and drenched in sweat, but right now she's home even though she's not even in the same country. She's not willing to budge. Not now.]
no subject
She isn't ready to hear what he's been through - if she ever will be. For now, he focuses on her recovery.]
...Okay. Okay, we'll try it at home. I know these doctors, you know, like real discreet? I'll call one of them and they can come by to check on you now and then, make sure you ain't too sick.
no subject
You have to flush the drugs. [She nods towards her purse on the couch] Someone has to. Or I'll end up...
[Jane knows herself. Once the withdrawals hit, she'll be scrambling for her purse--for the drugs--but even now, the addict in her regrets telling Jesse that she's holding at all.]
Yeah, a doctor works. Um...where's home anyway?
[Hopefully not in this bombed building...]
no subject
[Yeah, that's Jesse these days. Drivers. With guns.]
We can go right now, if you're ready. Just -
[He turns his gaze to the purse. He's a shade paler just looking at it, considering its contents like he's facing some kind of monster. He hates that fucking heroin. He wants it as bad as she does. If he takes it home with them, to his house that's only just recently been scrubbed clean...]
Lemme do this. Before I forget.
["Forget". He reaches to pick up her purse.]
