Halloween Masquerade Ball

Who: The Newcomer Political Party and The Newcomers!
When: October 27th, 7:00pm till Morning Sirens.
Where: The Newcomer Community Center
Summary: Time for some Halloween Masquerade Fun!
Warnings: Anything is possible!

The Community Center has been transformed into a sophisticated autumn dance hall, with bits of Halloween decorations around the room. When the door opens, you find yourself in the hall before the main room, someone ready to take your coat, if you have one, and another ready to give out bracelets. That way no one who shouldn't be drinking won't be able to.



The dance floor is surrounded by a number of small, round tables, each with an elaborate centerpiece of cobwebs. There are lights within the hanging decorations, with draped fabric over the sides, to give it a more close knit feeling. At the head of all the tables is a bar serving free drinks and cocktails to anyone over age. There is also a buffet



And then, of course, there is the dance floor, where people are dancing to the music supplied by two talented DJs, lights blinking and the room ready for everyone to have a good time.



Last call for food is two hours before sirens, and then the last call for drinks is an hour before the party finishes. You might want to be careful when it gets to be that time, though. Around 1:00 am, the party is going to change, due to a series of unfortunate events. You may not be very hungry or thirsty for awhile after.

[Natasha really didn't do Halloween, but with the Port now being her permanent home, she decides that the best way to scope out the place would be at the masked ball. She's dressed as a particular comic character with a green lace mask around her eyes. She's watching the crowds carefully, sipping on a glass of wine.]

[laurice]

[Larry, wearing this mask instead of an eye patch, will just walk up to her after seeing her a distance away from the crowds. He sweeps his hat off his head and bows ostentatiously, grinning.]

Y'know, something's wrong with this picture. What's a pretty lady like you doing so far away and so alone?

[killerthighs]

[Natasha watches quietly, mentally rolling her eyes at his question. But she plays dumb and coy, taking another sip from her glass.]

I don't know. Do you have any ideas?

[laurice]

[He pretends to be deep in thought, stroking his chin and narrowing his eyes.]

Well...I dunno...

[Then he lights up, putting his hat back on.]

Maybe you're looking for a dance partner?

[killerthighs]

[She was pretty sure she had a pretty nonchalant or concentrated gaze when she was looking around, but hey.]

Maybe.

[laurice]

Or...you're probably waiting for someone?

[Now this is just an attempt to spark more coherent conversation.]

I'm new here.

[laurice]

Oh...well, I've been here for like, two years! I can help you out.

WORK HAS BEEN HELL I haven't forgotten about you!

[killerthighs]

[Natasha's face lit up in false awe.]

Oh you will? Really?

IT'S OKAY school kicked my butt too sob

[laurice]

Yeah! I can do it!

[What part of "false" are you not getting, Larry?]

[psychopath]

[jack has dressed up as the white rabbit, and oops he's backed right into her, nearly spilling a glass on white wine on both their costumes.]

Ah- goodness, my apologies!

[killerthighs]

[the collision surprises the normally adept natasha and she turns her head quickly to see whom it is. she doesn't know the face, but the voice is vaguely familiar.]

Don't worry about it.

[astralling]

[Prue, less than creative as a masked witch, is taking a break between dancing and noticing the woman who's noticing everything. She has the behavior of someone antisocial, but not shy- her body language is stronger than that. Very controlled. Weirdly, for a party- but maybe that's the little glimmer of West Coast in her again.

Cool costume, though.]

[Just one glass was enough for Natasha. She placed her empty glass on a passing waiter's tray and folded her arms gently. The eyes on her were noticed and she turned her head in the woman's direction.

Without so much as any kind of reaction, she merely looks her over before turning her head forward again.]

[infromthecold]

[There's something familiar about the way the woman was staring out at the crowd. She seemed to be assessing potential danger rather than trying to recognize friends. James had been glancing at her every once in a while watching the other newcomers himself. After debating half the night the masked detective throws caution to the wind and approaches her.]
You don't seem to enjoying yourself.

[killerthighs]

[Her glass of wine finished and now gone, Natasha kept up her patrol. Until someone approaches her. Calmly, she glances at him.]

Let's just say that Halloween happens more than once a year where I'm from.

[Putting on costumes, pretending to be someone else.. all in a day's work at SHIELD.]

[infromthecold]

[James pales a bit hearing her voice. He hadn't forgotten his last face to face meeting with Black Widow. She hasn't recognized him yet and it hasn't even crossed his mind she's from a different world than his.]
That so. I was talking more about the party part.

[killerthighs]

[Natasha of course doesn't know the effect she's having on the man standing next to her. And of course the only Bucky Barnes she'd heard of was probably from Steve's stories from the war.

A huff of laughter comes from her.]

The party's a little dull.
