Halloween Masquerade Ball

Who: The Newcomer Political Party and The Newcomers!
When: October 27th, 7:00pm till Morning Sirens.
Where: The Newcomer Community Center
Summary: Time for some Halloween Masquerade Fun!
Warnings: Anything is possible!

The Community Center has been transformed into a sophisticated autumn dance hall, with bits of Halloween decorations around the room. When the door opens, you find yourself in the hall before the main room, someone ready to take your coat, if you have one, and another ready to give out bracelets. That way no one who shouldn't be drinking won't be able to.

The dance floor is surrounded by a number of small, round tables, each with an elaborate centerpiece of cobwebs. There are lights within the hanging decorations, with draped fabric over the sides, to give it a more close knit feeling. At the head of all the tables is a bar serving free drinks and cocktails to anyone over age. There is also a buffet

And then, of course, there is the dance floor, where people are dancing to the music supplied by two talented DJs, lights blinking and the room ready for everyone to have a good time.

Last call for food is two hours before sirens, and then the last call for drinks is an hour before the party finishes. You might want to be careful when it gets to be that time, though. Around 1:00 am, the party is going to change, due to a series of unfortunate events. You may not be very hungry or thirsty for awhile after.

[-upon further evaluation from this masquerade, Norman has concluded that he has absolutely no idea on what he is getting himself into. Mingling isn't exactly his forte and he makes it look quite obvious from the way he awkwardly steps around others to standing by the sidelines of the festivities.

It was hard to tell who was who under the costumes they are wearing- rather, the handful of acquaintances Norman has encountered so far. He really is a fish out of water; out of place and probably out of his mind. For now, wearing his mask, Norman approaches the bar and signals for the bartender.]

Vodka, please.

[As another man approaches the bar and orders it's the voice Tonegawa recognises ahead of anything else, unsurprisingly. It takes a moment for him to place it, but when he does he's already cutting in to the man's order.]

Add a bourbon to that, if you will. [Usually he'd put both drinks on his tab as a conversation starter, but given that drinks are free he'll have to rely on charm alone. Hardly a problem.. He turns back to the man beside him, smiling faintly.] Norman Jayden, isn't it? It's a pleasure to meet you in person.

-?

[At first Norman doesn't recognize the voice beside him but by the time he turns his head aside to see Tonegawa's face, he finally puts two and two together.]

Yeah. That's right. [He nods.] Didn't think I'd finally meet you so soon like this, Mr. Tonegawa.

[Jee he hopes he has got it right this time. Granted, his pronunciation sounds a little off with his accent which ends up sounding like "TONEEGAHWA".]

[He can let it slide- it's hardly the worst he's heard since he's been here, and since Jayden isn't a client he's not much interested in strong-arming perfect pronunciation into him as a point of respect.]

Neither did I. It's not the most dignified of meetings, I must admit- but 'dignity' can be difficult enough to maintain here as it is. I hope the Port hasn't thrown you too many curve balls since we last spoke?

[Sure, there are a number of things he could get off his chest about the Port but he'll just stick with--]

I've been managing. [He says while staring down at the bar until the bartender sits their drinks down next to them.] Thanks.

[Jayden eyes at his drink. He isn't thirsty per se but the beverage does serve as something to keep him occupied.]

This is a normal thing for the Newcomer Party?

The drinks? Or the general show? [He takes his and sips, speaking over the rim of the glass; if he can't smoke in here, he'll just have to find something else to occupy him.] Mm. They like to keep their guests happy- and it's all good for publicity, I suppose.

oh gosh so sorry for being late on this D/

I'm not sure how something like this would stir good publicity. It's just a party. [He takes a sip. 'Show' is an interesting way to put it. No matter how you slice it, it's all about putting up a political front. A simple Halloween get-together not being an exception to the rule.] Not bad so far. [Jayden corrects himself.] In general I mean.
12second_orz: (always relaxed)

not at all! <3

It's a display of unity- and a peaceful, one, too. The NPP get to walk away as hosts of a generally press-friendly evening and the rest of the Port sees a peaceful little subset of their city who aren't at all threatening. In theory, at least. [There's a real snide undertow to his voice, something in the dramatic swing he gives each sentence. He obviously doesn't think all that much of the situation.]

[A legitimate enough reason. Put up a good face in front of the locals and they have less of a reason to backlash on the Newcomers. It seems obvious enough that the man next to him is only here to show face while Jayden on the other hand is just another face in the crowd. He looks down on his drink once more and continues to nurse it.]

Right, just another day in paradise.
