Halloween Masquerade Ball

Who: The Newcomer Political Party and The Newcomers!
When: October 27th, 7:00pm till Morning Sirens.
Where: The Newcomer Community Center
Summary: Time for some Halloween Masquerade Fun!
Warnings: Anything is possible!

The Community Center has been transformed into a sophisticated autumn dance hall, with bits of Halloween decorations around the room. When the door opens, you find yourself in the hall before the main room, someone ready to take your coat, if you have one, and another ready to give out bracelets. That way no one who shouldn't be drinking won't be able to.



The dance floor is surrounded by a number of small, round tables, each with an elaborate centerpiece of cobwebs. There are lights within the hanging decorations, with draped fabric over the sides, to give it a more close knit feeling. At the head of all the tables is a bar serving free drinks and cocktails to anyone over age. There is also a buffet



And then, of course, there is the dance floor, where people are dancing to the music supplied by two talented DJs, lights blinking and the room ready for everyone to have a good time.



Last call for food is two hours before sirens, and then the last call for drinks is an hour before the party finishes. You might want to be careful when it gets to be that time, though. Around 1:00 am, the party is going to change, due to a series of unfortunate events. You may not be very hungry or thirsty for awhile after.

[He rolls his eyes as he tugs the cape a little bit further around himself.]

Dave gets a hernia if I so much as graze his shitty cape. I picked this up at a store today, figured I'd put less effort into this piece of shit and just wait till the other one to get a real outfit.

[He lets the comment about Dave slide this time, that's his brother you're talking about Karakt, but it is kind of true, so Dirk says nothing for now.

What he does do however, is focus on the second part of Karkat's comment.]

Why wouldn't I? It's not like these things happen often.

[And the fact that he may have a few idealistic views on what a formal masked ball shoud be like and is really looking more foward to the other one than this one. But those are personal reasons.]

I'll let you in on a little secret... This shit happens once a year, that's pretty often if you lead a long healthy life.

[Dirk has is own reasons too for wanting to go to both balls, mostly because he's still in research mode. He wants to watch as many people as he can at one time, what better place than a ball. He might even let his hair down and dance the odd dance now and then too. Maybe.]

[Said with completely casual air, but he almost believes it himself more than just sarcasm. He never had much faith in himself on a good day, much less imagining a year stuck in this place where everything was out to kill him.]

That's kind of macabre or you, but I respect it.

[After all, this city was renowned for being dangerous, day time or night fall, with or without the darkness, and Dirk knew of Karkat's brush with the monsters here already.]

[And this place really didn't help to boost his confidence in his ability to not die.]

You know, I could say the same thing about myself. The odds back home were never really in my favour either.

[More common ground between the human and the troll? It seemed so. Hopefully Dirk could inspire some confidence in Karkat... This place might not be the best, but they could survive just swell.]

Yeah, that really doesn't surprise me from what I know. Though to be honest if you were a troll you probably would have been one of the ones most likely to succeed through adulthood.

[Because really, it's kind of hard to deny just how badass this guy is.]

Would my skills alone be enough to keep me alive though? I've reason to believe your kind kill and cull one another, setting skills aside and basing it purely on blood cast. I can't recall the exact reasons, but I'm sure as fuck I wouldn't be a high or royal blooded troll, thus my chances of survival would be knocked down a peg or two from the get-go.

[But he's flattered Karkat has noticed how much of a bad ass he is.]
