Halloween Masquerade Ball

Who: The Newcomer Political Party and The Newcomers!
When: October 27th, 7:00pm till Morning Sirens.
Where: The Newcomer Community Center
Summary: Time for some Halloween Masquerade Fun!
Warnings: Anything is possible!

The Community Center has been transformed into a sophisticated autumn dance hall, with bits of Halloween decorations around the room. When the door opens, you find yourself in the hall before the main room, someone ready to take your coat, if you have one, and another ready to give out bracelets. That way no one who shouldn't be drinking won't be able to.



The dance floor is surrounded by a number of small, round tables, each with an elaborate centerpiece of cobwebs. There are lights within the hanging decorations, with draped fabric over the sides, to give it a more close knit feeling. At the head of all the tables is a bar serving free drinks and cocktails to anyone over age. There is also a buffet



And then, of course, there is the dance floor, where people are dancing to the music supplied by two talented DJs, lights blinking and the room ready for everyone to have a good time.



Last call for food is two hours before sirens, and then the last call for drinks is an hour before the party finishes. You might want to be careful when it gets to be that time, though. Around 1:00 am, the party is going to change, due to a series of unfortunate events. You may not be very hungry or thirsty for awhile after.

[She nods, actually paying attention. Music is something that's always interested her throughout the millennia.] Fading, got it. Seems like the best way to go.

It takes listening to the original pieces to find out how to improve them and make them mean something else. That's kinda the point, making something new from pieces of something else. [He adjusts the dials, smoothing out the sounds and adds a vibrant tone to it. It gives the present song a bouncy quality to it.]

[Instead of being a normal person and you know, maybe moving with the music, she stands perfectly still instead.] You've listened to all these songs before, then?

Yeah. Sometimes I listen to the same song for days on end to mix it. I practice constructing from scratch for hours. It's like anything else you have to practice it to get any good at it. My bro was uh, pretty much the best at it. [There's not a trace of doubt in his voice as he adjusts things a little more.]

[At least he's okay with his sibling being better at something. Scathach has all sorts of issues with her sister. Granted, they're twins, so there's bound to be jealousy when one is stronger, prettier, or a better fighter (hint: Aoife is all of the above).] That's dedication.

Can't let myself get rusty. That would be just wrong. [No, instead he has issues with self confidence, thinking he can't measure up, and didn't know who he really was for the longest damn time. There's likely some resentment in there and a hell of a lot of stress. But a lot of these things don't matter when your brother is dead. Only to be dragged out and spit up when they come back from the dead as a rebooted teenage version of that guardian.]

[All of that sounds incredibly awful for a teen to have to go through. She's trying not to overtly sense anything he's feeling, but it's hard when she hasn't fed in a few weeks.]

Practice makes perfect, I guess.

Doesn't it with anything? [It's kinda nice being among people again. He missed crowds and flashing lights that had nothing to do with possible death. God damn did he miss holidays and not having to wait any more. No big green pimp on a rage trying to destroy the after life.] Anyway. A lot of this is about feeling out and adding to it, without distorting the original feel. You just update it, make it flow differently but not so much no one has a clue what it was.

Know I said that before, but it bears repeating.

Nothing wrong with repetition. [She leans in closer, shoving bright red bangs from her face.] It's impressive, I'll say that much.

That's how something gets drilled in, yeah. Because just seeing it once isn't going to root a concept or whatever into your head. Nope got to beat that shit in and whisk it until everything blends together. [He nods at her approval and adds more of a drum beat to the song.] All in how you work it. Cutting sick moves on the dance floor because you've been there a thousand times.

[Let's be real, she has been there a thousand times. She stands straighter, eyes never leaving the sound board.] I think I'll just stick with singing.

Suit yourself. [He looks out at the floor, judges the time right and slides on headphones to hear the precise notes and instruments. The music still flows out of the speakers but his hands fly over the set up. weaving the music into something ten levels more complex. He can be heard muttering exactly what he's doing and to what degrees, before he's finished and pulling the headphones off.] What sort of stuff do you sing?

[She watches intently, almost dutifully. As if this is a lesson. In some ways, it is. Technology is still primarily a mystery to her. Music, at least, is something she understands. It seems like a good place to start.] A little bit of everything. Mostly German rock. [As if this isn't a strangely specific area in which to specialize.]
