We're gonna party like it's the end of the world! [Semi-closed]
Who: All of Platinum Phoenix Enterprise (formerly known as Violet Systems) and their choice of guests.
When: December 21, 2012
Where: Platinum Phoenix's humble building in Sector 8, not far from Grant Stadium.
Summary: Lee throws a little thanksgiving party to his staff, allowing them to bring a guest of their choice. Things happen!
Warnings: Drunkenness? Intrigue? Shenanigans? People standing in corners??
((ooc: I've posted this tagged all the current employees I can remember for now. If you feel like I've missed you or if your character is no longer part of the company, just let me know :3 ))
While Violet Systems used to have its company parties in its posh SERO-owned building in Sector 2, the new home for the new company is but a simple office structure on the outskirts of the industrial sector, only two floors high and with a rather old-fashioned look to its fascade.
That doesn't stop Lee Chaolan from throwing a good party, though. It pretty much goes to show how much he won't pass up on throwing a celebration. And besides that, this serves as a kind of holiday party for his team. There's no gift-giving, but there's beer from a neutral microbrewery and champagne from a local neutral vineyard. True to his word, the CEO had gone all-out in his support for newcomer-owned and true neutral businesses. Who said that corporate responsibility ended when work was over?
With all the little details aside, Lee hoped his employees could have a good time and take the opportunity to mingle. This is especially true for his newest additions to the company: Claudio, Jade, and Aoko.
He raises his glass of champagne to the party gathered before him:
"A toast to Platinum Phoenix Enterprises and whatever lies before us!"
And with that, the party begins.

You can find her milling about in a stunning white gown while trying not to preen too overtly.
no subject
"That is a splendid gown you have on tonight. Did you invite any friend to the party?"
no subject
no subject
"In any case, it's but a small party, so need not worry about not being able to see him here. I'm certain you will. In the meantime, I would like you to get to know our new employees. Aoko Nakamori, in particular, will be part of my secretarial staff along with you."
no subject
"You look stunning tonight, Sheila. It's nice to see you sort of out of the office, we don't see each other enough. Are you having a good time?"

Snake is dressed quite finely in blue, white and gray: trousers, button-down shirt and a pinstriped vest. They're well-tailored for his rather tall, slender form. There's a rather regal air about the man, the way he holds himself and his excessively pale skin.
Snake is seen with a drink in his hand free most of the night, listening to this or that conversation. When people shuffle around as they tend to at parties like this, he finds it most comfortable to stay out of the way.]
[[OOC: Snake is a telepath, please see here for explanation/permissions.]]
no subject
That doesn't mean that he can't allow Snake to enjoy the benefits of being the person closest to Lee, though.]
How are you doing?
no subject
Be a darling and fetch me another drink?
no subject
[Lee chuckles a little at that, not sure how to feel about Snake's remark. But he will get Snake another drink.]
Champagne, wine, beer? What would you prefer?
no subject
no subject
[With a smile, he takes that glass.]
I'll be back in a moment.
[There is a fleeting touch to the small of Snake's back before Lee parts, getting the wine for him.]
no subject
no subject
Are you alright?
[He noticed the way he was holding himself as he was walking towards him.]
no subject
...You know, I quite like that young man you have employed. Tim, isn't he? Is he seeing anyone?
[It's such a petty thing to say, and in the back of his head Snake knows he's better than stooping to this. Yet, here his voice, sharp and cutting and hardly caring at all.]
no subject
Tim... none that I know of. But he does seem to be close with his guest, Christina.
gonna reply to your perm post when I get home!
It's both this thought, and genuine intrigue that gave him the smile on his face as he came over to say hello on one of his rounds.]
Hello. You're a friend of Mr. Chaolan's, right? I'm Tim, I work with him.
no subject
I am Snake. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Tim.
no subject
It's nice to meet you too, Snake. How are you liking the party so far?
no subject
I would ask you how the party goes for you, but it is possibly going quite abysmally if you are taking the time to introduce yourself to strange guests of your employer. [A laugh.]
What is it you do for Platinum Phoenix? You sound quite young to be involved in this sort of venture.
no subject
[He takes a sip of his champagne.] It's not going that bad, actually. I just thought I'd come over and say hi, you seemed like you could use someone to talk to. Parties are a lot more dull if you don't have someone to waste the time with.
[He grinned, though.] I'm the lead developer for the company. A recent promotion, actually, I was just another developer until we moved. [He paused.] I'm enrolled in school, here, but I... like working. I like work.
no subject
So perhaps it is a good thing that this friendly young man has come to speak to him and distract him.]
Where are you enrolled? I attend SPU. If you ever need a tutor, I am available for many subjects and would give you a company discount, so to speak.
no subject
Honestly, Tim had guessed about this for awhile now. You weren't called the world's greatest detective for being dumb and blind. But schools. Right. He hadn't thought about it, lately, but he needed to keep it up for appearances. And that meant getting tutors.]
My friend, Christina, is planning on going to school... I think she's going to SPU? I'm at SPU, and I would... really like a tutor. [A sigh, a smile, more of a sheepish one.] You don't have to give me a discount. How are you at English? Writing skills, those are not my strong points.
no subject
no subject
I could always used help with a speech or two. [And the smile got wider.] I'd love to learn to read braille, though. But isn't it that the tutor needs to find the right pupil, instead of the pupil finding the right tutor?
no subject
no subject
That sounds almost like a dare. Or a bet waiting to happen. I don't know if I would be a stubborn student, but I like to take a man's word on how good he is.
no subject
Needless to say she's currently in a corner, nursing a glass of champagne and swaying a bit to the beat of the music, trying not to get her hopes up too much, and just enjoying the party. If nothing else, it's a party for a good cause, and she can appreciate that much, even just as Tim's friend.
no subject
Or more like a fatherly kind of thing, given his age and how young this guest appears. Oops. He approaches Christina.
"Good evening, are you enjoying the party?"
no subject
"It's great. I just don't know anyone here, so I'm wallflowering it for a bit." That sounds like a horrible excuse and she pulls a face and tries to soften the explanation a bit. "I'm Tim's... friend."
no subject
"I see. Your friend is definitely quite the sociable one. He has a knack for rallying up his co-workers into mischief in the office."
He chuckles, grinning at Christina. Hopefully sharing silly office stories, like embarrassing baby photos, would help ease the mood.
no subject
And, despite all of her powers and her fears, Tim felt safe with her. Which wasn't as odd as it sounded, when you considered who he spent time with back home, who his friends were, his family...he was sort of nervous. When was the last time he went out with a girl? Or anyone? Yeah, he was nervous.
"You don't have to try so hard," Tim said with a smile, offering her a second glass with the hand not currently in a cast. "No one in this room can really judge, if you're worried about that. I think everyone just wants you to have a good time." He paused, juggling his other glass to the correct hand. "Are you having a good time?" Because that is something he's worried about.
no subject
BAD WORD CHOICE. She covered her words up with an awkward grin, hoping Tim wouldn't linger too long on them and then promptly moved into less nervous talk. She could act like a woman and not a lovestruck teen. She handled it fine with Jesse before, but considering how that ended, she now had to spend an overly long time second guessing everything. "I'm having a great time. Thank you for inviting me. It was really sweet of you."
no subject
Tim looked down with a smile, one only slightly less awkward then hers. "I'm glad. That you're having a good time, and that you agreed to come. I think the last party I went to, here, was probably my birthday party, and that wasn't so much a party as..." A wave of his hand, and he really didn't want to go into that. "I was a little worried you might say no, actually. That it'd be a little weird." Tim laughed. "Anyway, I'm glad you said yes. You look really great tonight, by the way. Really great."
no subject
She had a type. She had a type something bad. Boy scouts with perfect hair and great smiles who made all the darkness go away (yeah, right up until it gets too much for them and they bolt or stab you). She bit her lip. She swore she'd get through his night without fretting about what Jesse did, because it wasn't what Tim would do. He saw weird all the time. Ahiru was right about that much.
At the mention of her looking good, her flush was too high on her cheeks to be the alcohol. "Ahiru helped me pick this out and Crowley didn't say anything about me looking like a hooker when I left, so I guess it worked for me." She tugged at her skirt and leaned forward. "Also, we're really bad at this, aren't we?"
At least she could admit it. It was somehow a lot more comforting knowing he was just as awkward as her.
no subject
"Awful. Really awful at this," He laughed, hiding his face with the arm in a cast as he laughed. "I'm sorry. The last time I did this was... I don't know if I remember the last time I did something like this. Asked a girl out and went out with her." Maybe he could remember. He'd never really asked Tam out, though he'd thought about it. Steph, he'd dated, until she died, and even when she came back, it just could never be the same. Which is what he was worried about, though he could put it in the back of his mind for now. Worried about something happening to her. Because of him.
"But I really mean it, even without the awkwardness. You look great, tonight, and I'm really glad you said yes to coming. I was worried you'd be worried, because of who we are and what we do. It's a little weird, I know," He leaned against the wall, becoming co-conspirators with her as he leaned in a little. "Guess we both come to this with a lot of uncertainty."
no subject
But that was less important than their spectacular failure at flirting. Now in a slightly more private area, maybe they wouldn't be so flustered... or would be more flustered, but there wouldn't be nearly as many people to point and laugh at them. It worked out either way.
"I haven't so much as looked at another guy sideways since before I... left home." She drummed her fingers on her glass. "So we're in the same boat, I guess." She laughed out loud. "At least it's mutual. It would be super weird if one of us was confident that everything wasn't going to explode and the other was a wreck. This way, we get to pick up each others' pieces when we inevitably fall apart."
no subject
"And you've been here for awhile, too. So, pretty long?" Not really a question that she needed to answer, and he didn't expect her to. But he gave a smile. "Relationships can be difficult. It's even more difficult to get the nerve to actually bring it up. So, you're right. This way, we can be mutually awkward, and try to figure out where to go from there."
Another drink, because he'll have to figure out where to go to from there. "So, we can try this... slowly, thing," He paused, and then shuffled his glass to the crook of his arm, so he could hold out his hand. "I'm Tim Drake. I'm the lead developer in Platinum Phoenix Enterprises, and I run an after school group activity." That came with the cheekiest smile ever. "I'm from Gotham, originally, and I have two brothers and an adoptive dad. I like playing tennis, working with computers and inventing things, and pepperoni pizza is my favorite. And one time a fell asleep on a roller coaster."
His little smirk on his face and a tilt of his head said it was her turn, now.
no subject
But that's not nearly as weird as the fact that he's talking about relationships and her heart starts beating in her throat and she knows she's gaping like a fish for longer than she should before she snaps herself back together. "Yeah. Go from there."
God, just keep it together. He likes you. Don't screw it up. She shifted her own glass and took his hand, smiling in a manner both confident and cheerful. "Christina Nickson. I'm a waitress in school to be a counselor." She couldn't quite match his cheeky smile, because she ended up blushing and looking down before she could collect herself enough to be cheeky back. "I'm adopted and the man who raised me is a really successful businessman in Manhattan. My bio-dad is Lucifer, my actual mom had a bit of a crisis knowing that my bio-dad was Lucifer, and I have freaky powers that can level an entire city, but I prefer to use them for good these days. I enjoy the beach. I love pasta. And I'm really competitive."
no subject
He didn't feel like he had to try with her. All they ever did was try. Maybe he could stop trying. But her list of things, her background, it was all difficult for him to keep a straight face with. So he didn't; he wasn't laughing at her. Just laughing at all of this.
"Nice to meet you, Christina Nickson, waitress, student, potential therapist. Well, we have the adopted part, that's the same for both of us, right?" He smiled. "I don't share anything up until the phrase "use them for good these days"." That was definitely a joke. "I love pasta. I also like Asian fusion, going to that little food market near the center, the one that's an old fashioned Chinese market? To be honest, I just love food in general."
What else, what else. Now wasn't the time to bring up big problems, big things that had happened. Couldn't really go into being Robin, since not everyone here knew about that. So it was slightly difficult, figuring things out.
"I'm not really competitive, but I respect those who are. I have a power from the Core, but I don't know what that is, yet. I live with Blaine and Kurt and my cat. He's a flying cat," A laugh. "I named him Alfred. He's pretty cute. I'm Blaine's best man at his wedding, so that's taking a lot of time to get together. I could probably use a haircut. I'm spewing out random facts, when really, I should be listening to your random facts," He smiled. "Or ask you to dance."
no subject
"Well, I live with Crowley and his hellhounds. And assorted other pets. Castiel used to live there, but then he got amnesia and moved out, but I'm hoping he'll come back one day. I've always wanted to skydive. I don't mind living here and I think the Darkness, as bad as it is, is a part of the city that one day we'll understand and won't have to fear anymore. And I'd really, really love to dance."
She held out a hand for him to take.
no subject
"I've never been skydiving before," He took her hand gently, leading her out onto the dance floor. The hand covered in plaster went to her hip, the other going into the classic ballroom dancing pose. He knew how to dance. "But I picture it like falling when the grapple doesn't connect, and I don't really like falling." A pause. "But I like your concept of the darkness. Not too many people agree, but I don't think it's something to be afraid of. Something worth studying, but at this point, I just see it as something here. It just... is."
no subject
"And I've never danced with a boy wearing a cast. Slightly less terrifying experience, I guess." She was unable to hide a teasing giggle as they got into position, but considering how long it'd been since that particular light had been in her eyes, some teasing was just necessary to show her good spirits. He knew how to dance. That was a point in his favor. "Everyone's got a little darkness in them. Sometimes it's not as obvious. Like me. I guess that's why I like it. It's home and nothing's felt like home in a long time."
no subject
"Well, if it helps ease your mind at all, I know how to dance without the cast, too," His face brightened even more at her smile. It was a long time since he'd seen her... he'd seen her happy. But content. A little more at peace. "I've heard a lot of people call this place home. It's not too bad of a place to call home."
Tim grinned. "But I like your darkness," On second though, that came out like an awfully cheesy line. Like something Dick would say. Damnit. His face burned a little. "That came out weird."
no subject
But it was a good party, with good distractions, and good people. Unfortunately he had to leave his guest a few times, but it was unavoidable. He wasn't leaving Christina alone on purpose, he just needed to make the rounds, get something to drink, check to make sure the Teen Titans were doing okay. So, if he wasn't around his "this might actually be a date it's probably a date yes it is a date" date, then he can be found walking around with a glass of champagne.
Do i win awards for being late???
She filled her glass with soft drink rather than wine, and she is just kind of drifting around the party, trying to find someone to talk too.
NOPE
"Hey, Jade. Having fun?" Tim came over, a champagne flute in hand. Easy to look like you'd been drinking when you hadn't.
NOPE. :U I'm even later.
He approaches her, amused by her choice of drink.
"Not in the mood to try some alcohol?"
i replied even more later....
"Oh! Thank you for inviting to this party tonight, i haven't been to lot of parties before this one!!"
It's no problem ;3; we can be late taggers together \o\
