The Flowers of Robert Mapplethorpe
Who: Frau and Hattie
When: Valentine's Day, Noon
Where: Frau's Apartment then to the city
Summary: After an annoying day of 'work', Hattie goes to blow off some steam.
Warnings: None yet, if you know what I mean. AND I THINK YOU DO.
Should she call Larry? Not a -bad- idea, but that wouldn't do today.
Keigo? Not him either, that'd be -too- good a deed on her end.
Frau? Yes, he'd be the perfect person to be seen hanging around with on Valentine's Day! And, knowing him, he was at home doing nothing. Terrible.
And so she had the driver head off to his apartment without even calling. Hattie didn't bother to change, so once the car arrives, she's tromping up the stairs, in black slacks and white blouse under her winter coat, then knocks hard on his door.
no subject
She probably should have remembered that, but too late now! "I believe they do have plastic forks; but I know you can do this- If you can handle a weapon, you can handle chopsticks. Here."
Setting hers down, she took Frau's hand and placed the lower stick in place, "The bottom stick is the cradle. You don't move this; keep it in place with your thumb." The other is placed between his other fingers, "Move these simultaneously to grip. Try it."
no subject
"How is this related to a weapon?"
He couldn't help grumbling. These chopsticks were just dumb.
no subject
The funny thing was; she acted eerily similar in the situation- It was very.. Odd actually seeing this behavior rather than being the one acting it out. "Just keep relaxed, Frau, don't try to force it. It's gentle control of your fingers. Though there is an alternative.."
Hattie picks up a piece with salmon, "I could feed it to you. There's only one day in the year I'd consider that for you~." she teases.
no subject
"Utensils aren't an extension of your arm or your fingers. They're just tools. You don't get attached to utensils."
Frau gives up and tosses the chopsticks aside. He hasn't had a chance to even sample the food yet, which is ridiculous. So he simply grabs one with his fingers and tosses it into his mouth, chewing slowly. It's different, but he can't say that it's bad.
"Oh yeah? Just the one?"
no subject
He seemed to approve! "We don't have this where I'm from either. Should I get home, this will certainly be one of the things I miss," she says, seeming quite pleased. Though back to the subject of weapons, "So.. What, weapons are tools that you get attached to? I hit someone with a fan once and I don't think I've felt any closer to it." noted with a smirk.
"And yes, 'just the one', Frau." she points to another. "Try the reddish one next, that's crab. It's one of my favorites."
no subject
Frau was quite willing to try the suggested piece before continuing this discussion. After all the time and energy he'd wasted on the chopsticks, he was starving. Actually, these sushi things were pretty good even if they didn't have actual meat in them. Maybe if they served something like this at the church once in awhile he wouldn't get so tired of fish and vegetables.
"If you're actually a fighter that uses the same weapon over and over again you become attached to it. It's only then when you're so comfortable and skilled in its use that it feels like an extension of your arm."
While Frau wasn't exactly a fighter in the more common sense, he still fit the role. The scythe didn't quite apply consider its specifics, but Frau had felt the whole "part of him" thing in the correct way with a bascule. He hadn't been able to use one in awhile though.

Hattie seems pleased that he's enjoying the food, though, it seems she's two for two in introducing new things!
Hattie took a piece with bluefish tuna, wrapped in cucumber and was quiet for a moment. She then asked, out of the blue, "Are you cursed, Frau? I saw when you were frozen last month."
no subject
As for the cursed question, he didn't really know how to answer that either. It wasn't like he was cursed really, but carrying around the scythe could certainly feel that way. Since he wasn't actually cursed, he could still give her an honest answer.
"No."
no subject
"Oh?" she paused a moment, "Then what happened? I thought someone had cursed you."
no subject
Frau figured he would answer he questions, but not the specific one she was really trying to get at. If he did some explaining that wasn't directly related to him, she might forget about making him answer why he had frozen.
no subject
She then frowns in concern, "Were you attacked from behind, maybe?"
no subject
Even Frau, who couldn't be tainted by a kor, had suffered because of them. One had managed to get a hold of Teito, which was bad enough. Worse yet, a warsfiel had set him up, and Frau had fallen for it, winding up in prison.
"Corruption has nothing to do with me. That just happens to me when it gets cold enough."
no subject
Afterward, the female blonde seems to accept Frau's answer, "Oh. Well no wonder you dislike Winter," she says, not that he ever said that, "Personally I can't stand it either. You remember that week long blizzard? Couldn't take it, it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. It never gets this cold where I'm from!"
"Well there is -one- good thing from the season, the jackets and scarves are fantastic. What did you do during the blizzard anyway?"
no subject
He'd tried to figure out a way to get from his apartment to Purgatory without needing to go outside, but it had been an impossible task. One step outside had frozen him over until he'd gotten enough eating packs into his coat to prevent that.
no subject
Hattie finished off her tea, and helped herself to a more sushi. She wasn't a light eater it'd seem and poor Keigo learned that the hard way. "Well, I'm glad you're all right, Frau." Because if he froze forever, she wouldn't have anyone to drag around on Valentine's day.
no subject
He shrugs though, not particularly bothered by it. There are far less rules at Purgatory than there were at the church.
"It wasn't really like I was alone. I had Tolly with me."
Which was true. Frau's kitten had spent most of the day trying to pounce on Frau's fingers and eat his gloves, as usual. Thankfully he'd managed to get the cat to sleep for a little while and had enjoyed simply petting him.
no subject
Tolly? "Your cat! I didn't see the little darling when I came in, you'll have to introduce us properly next time, I think. If it were -my- cat, she'd.. Um. Hmn, I'm not certain what Lucifurr would do but she's not very exciting." originally she thought she was getting a talking cat. It didn't talk and so she lost interest, leaving Ella to take care of her.
Hattie, you are terrible.
"How'd you come up with the name?"
no subject
Of course the fact that the kitten had spent most of the morning running around like a banshee had helped with the need to rest. Thankfully she'd been almost done by the time Frau came home from work, so she hadn't kept him up. Not that it would have mattered. He'd been so tired he would have slept through it anyway.
When Hattie asked about the name, Frau just shrugged. He hadn't really planned it out.
"It just fit I guess."
no subject
"How so? I'm not certain what 'Tolly' means.." Hattie was feeling in a better mood than before; Frau of course wasn't overly talkative still, but to her he seemed to be less distant than before.
no subject
There wasn't anything more than that. He plucked another piece of sushi off the plate and tossed it into his mouth. This place would need to go on his list of ones to return to at some point. The food was actually really good.
no subject
"The thing about sushi," she then notes, "Is that there is a significant difference in quality between cheap and expensive sushi, at least that I've found. I would say this is about.. Oh.. Mid-budget. So if you go grocery shopping, don't buy too much of the cheaper stuff until you've tried it first."
There's another pause, "Have you ever heard of Vincent Nightray?"
no subject
"No, not that I know of."
no subject
Once the bill arrived she looked it over with a neutral expression. "You know what I heard? Apparently 'newcomers' have a special power. Is yours the zaiphon?"
no subject
He considered her question for a moment, but shook his head.
"I doubt it. I've had zaiphon since I was a kid. If newcomers here have a special power, I'd assume that means they gain it while they're here."
He'd never heard about special powers suddenly being gained, but that didn't mean it wasn't true.
no subject
"Oh. Hmn." Hattie's brows furrowed for a moment in thought, then nodded her head in understanding, "That does make sense. I've never noticed anything different about Ella, though, so maybe it is just a rumor after all."
"Though it'd be fun to have a special power. If you could have one, what would it be?"
