Summary: Tim decides to check up on someone kind of familiar. She does more checking up then he does, though.
Warnings: Language, if at all.

He wasn't quite sure what to expect, in meeting Lois now. She wasn't too different from the one he had met before; with Clark, not pleased with Batman, a ruthless reporter. She was cool. She'd always been cool. But Tim was nervous; the last time he'd talked to her, it wasn't about anything important. He'd stayed away from most of the Supers after Kon died, and that included anyone married to one.

Plus, he was still sick. Catching his reflection in the window as he got to the coffee house, he swallowed nervously. Maybe this had been a bad idea. He didn't look that bad. A little more pale then usual, but then, he was a kid who did things at night, so he never had much of a tan to begin with.

Maybe she'd pass it off as nerves. He'd try to do just that. Going inside, he looked around for her; not finding her there yet, he went and got some tea, taking a seat in the corner to wait.

Lois sighed explosively. "Okay. Well, if you are, you're in the very best of company--also probably the most compulsively paranoid, the most over-controlling, and the most... something else, maybe something better than those."

"You don't like him, do you," Tim said, eyes glancing over. "Most people don't, but... you really don't."

"Actually, I like him just fine. I don't know him terribly well, and he's a jackass. But he's a good jackass. And I trust Clark's judgment, and Bruce cares about him... frankly more than Oliver does, back home."

She smiled then, wryly. "But you can't deny he's compulsively paranoid."

Tim smiled a little at that, draining the rest of his cup. "He's compulsively paranoid, but so am I. So is everyone. I'd rather be paranoid, then be dead," Tim let out a short laugh.

"But he won't change. Not that he should."

"I didn't say it was a bad thing." Her smile was wry. "Except possibly for sanity, but like you said: breathing takes precedence."

She paused a moment, blinking. "Right. Anyway, it isn't something special about you."

"It does," Tim nodded. "Don't worry. I'm not going to go off and kill myself because I can't deal with anything. I don't do that."

He sighed a little, though, shifting down in his seat. "Sometimes I wish I could feel like that. Give up completely, like some people do. But it's not in me to do that."

Lois smiled very slightly. "I don't think you'd be part of the family if you knew how to give up. I haven't known a one of you all yet who has. Even when they try," she added with a roll of her eyes.

Finishing off her coffee, she turned offered him her spare bear claw. "My point is, you don't have a unique jinx or anything."

Tim snorted into his drink and grinned. "No, I know I don't. I don't have a monopoly on it, either. But it is something I think about it, sometimes. I don't try to very much, but when you're feeling a little down, it crops up."

He looked down at the bear claw. "I'll split it with you?"

"Oh, I know. You forget who I'm engaged to. Brooding's the superpower people forget." Funnily enough, she still hadn't told the Network about that...

Her sigh was exaggerated. "Well, I suppose I'll have to suffer the extra calories."

Tim grinned. "You could use some extra calories. You're much too thin and pretty already," He took the bear claw from her and split it in half, handing the other one back.

"You're not a true superhero until you brood in the rain on a gargoyle."

"And you're the growing boy, but kudos for knowing the way to a girl's heart." Taking her half back, she tore into it while rolling her eyes.

After swallowing, "You'd have to ask him about his more favorite perches, but he's got a thing for rooftops, at least. Speaking of brooding over-controlling superheroes, maybe you can be rational and help me with something."

"I had some really good teachers," Tim smirked just a little, biting into his own half with a content sigh. This was delicious bread.

"Sure, what's up?"

"I've been trying to find a way to back up my files more securely."

She frowned a moment. "More or less the magic touch of encryption keeps my things in and people out, but... there's the physical thing too. Something's up, and I'd like to make sure that someone can't just take a hammer to my harddrive. I just can't take this to the big boys."

"I could take a look at those for you. I'm kind of a computer nerd, if you haven't guessed that already," Tim nodded. "What kind of protection are you looking for? Standard encryption, heavier metal for the system?"

Lois chewed her lip for a moment.

"Actually, a second secure location--a physical drive and location, I mean. Somewhere no one would look for extra copies of files to destroy."

Tim paused at that, biting his lip for a moment. "What kind of files?"

That earns a small, wry smile. "Nothing special. Just... my files? Articles, notes, the normal stuff. Just... I've been getting a little edgy--nothing specific, and no I am not planning on infiltrating anything, before you ask."

Just someone erasing information.

"Okay," Tim laughed softly. "I just ask, because things like... video files will require more to keep, that kind of thing."

Lois nodded. "I can get the extra hardware to you, if you tell me what you need. It's just easy to find my computers--work, home, or with me. I'd like a place to get things from if someone tries to eliminate work."

"Makes sense. The easiest thing might be to make some kind of hard drive that you can keep with you or store somewhere, that only lets you open it," He was deep in thought, now, trying to figure this one out.

"Store somewhere very much nowhere near me, I think. Just so no one looking for something near me might find it." She sighed. "And if I so much as mentioned this to either Clark or Bruce, they'd assume I was trying to keep them from finding out about something I had planned."

"I guess it's good that I'm not as suspicious, then," Tim grinned. "Don't worry, I think I know of a good place for it to go. Somewhere far away from you or anyone near you."

"Oh, I believe you're just as suspicious," she grinned back, reaching out to ruffle his hair. "You're just not stupid and compulsively controlling enough to try to keep me from doing my job."

She sighed a little with relief. "Awesome. Just let me know what I need to do, and I will trust your computer savvy to be far greater than mine."

Tim couldn't help but blush a little, ducking his head. It'd been awhile since someone had ruffled his hair like that.

"Let me design it, first? Before you give me anything to put into it. It might take some time."

With a laugh, she agreed, "Done. And thanks."

Lois paused. "Speaking of. You only met briefly, at Thanksgiving--my cousin, Chloe. She could be useful."
