You're the first one when things turn out bad.

Who: Hummelberry
When: Earlier in the day.
Where: Their apartment!
Summary: Rachel works with a mopey Kurt.
Warnings: INTENSE FRIENDSHIP.

It had been a few weeks since Kurt had lost his memories, and over that span of time he'd come to accept many uncomfortable truths--aside from, of course, the fact that someone had manipulated his memories and no one knew how or why. For one, he couldn't be with his boyfriend for reasons he couldn't remember or understand, and the knowledge that the box was still there in the closet never left his mind. That aside, there was the fact that his friends from home seemed so different. There was a layer to Finn that he didn't quite understand, something deeply sad and lost, and he felt like he didn't even have the right to ask what it was. I should know these things, he kept telling himself, and just fell further and further into what he referred to as existential melancholia.

Really, it was getting difficult to get out of bed on a regular basis, and he was thankful he had Rachel to help with that. She was as boundless and energetic as ever, though he couldn't help but think What don't I know about her, either? Still, he knew he couldn't fight through all of this alone, and who better than his Elphaba to help him?

He was in the living room, preparing the table with manicure and pedicure supplies as he waited for Rachel to come home with takeout for dinner. It was an ideal way to spend a boring evening, and there was nothing unusual or memory-bending about it.

Things had been strange all over the place in the last few weeks-- almost since she'd come back, actually. There were people who barely knew who they were or who didn't remember other people or who just... plain old didn't remember anything at all. To be completely honest, Rachel was just glad that nothing like that had happened to her. Well, not directly. She'd known that something had happened to Kurt, changed him and made him forget things that she couldn't even imagine forgetting, but...

Something was just different. So it really did seem like the best thing that they could do just to have a girls night. Nobody else was as good at painting her nails as Kurt was, and Rachel thought she had the best taste in vegan food, it was bound to cheer him up. He'd been down for so long and, well, after everything, Rachel just thought that Kurt didn't deserve to be down anymore.

As long as everything went according to plan, they were going to eat, paint their nails and maybe sing a little karaoke. Or maybe she could sing him one of the original songs that she'd written-- she hadn't shown them to anyone yet. She knew that Kurt had to be the first one.

Making sure that the food was secured in her hand, she reached for the doorknob and pulled it open.

"Kurt? I've got all the food we'll ever need!"
