Halloween Masquerade Ball

Who: The Newcomer Political Party and The Newcomers!
When: October 27th, 7:00pm till Morning Sirens.
Where: The Newcomer Community Center
Summary: Time for some Halloween Masquerade Fun!
Warnings: Anything is possible!

The Community Center has been transformed into a sophisticated autumn dance hall, with bits of Halloween decorations around the room. When the door opens, you find yourself in the hall before the main room, someone ready to take your coat, if you have one, and another ready to give out bracelets. That way no one who shouldn't be drinking won't be able to.



The dance floor is surrounded by a number of small, round tables, each with an elaborate centerpiece of cobwebs. There are lights within the hanging decorations, with draped fabric over the sides, to give it a more close knit feeling. At the head of all the tables is a bar serving free drinks and cocktails to anyone over age. There is also a buffet



And then, of course, there is the dance floor, where people are dancing to the music supplied by two talented DJs, lights blinking and the room ready for everyone to have a good time.



Last call for food is two hours before sirens, and then the last call for drinks is an hour before the party finishes. You might want to be careful when it gets to be that time, though. Around 1:00 am, the party is going to change, due to a series of unfortunate events. You may not be very hungry or thirsty for awhile after.

[ Why yes, it's wrong. Very wrong. But since the seal on his mad, mad Chain came undone a couple weeks ago, he's been feeling a bit nuttier than usual. ]

[ He waves at Allen; his floppy lace cuffs flutter. ]

I didn't realize you had such de~li~cate sensibilities. ♥

[ Is that a dare? It might be! ]

[debtor]

[You should get that looked at.

And while Allen is, by nature, a very competitive fellow who's not above rising to such an obvious challenge... he still has a lingering, wiggling sensation in his mouth. It's very off-putting, you know.

His eyebrow twitches.]

No, thank you...

[maddeninghatter]

Even someone with such an obvious hero complex, hahahaha!

[ He's scrabbling in his pockets for something else. ]

[debtor]

[Haa. His expression turns a bit wry.]

It's nothing like that...

[What are you gonna pull out now...]

[maddeninghatter]

I think it's exactly like that.

Offering to save a relative stranger, without knowing anything about the risks involved...

[ Just a normal hard candy which he... eats himself. CRUNCH! ]

That's a hero, I'd say.

[debtor]

[JERK.

He thinks it's a bit silly, putting his reckless behavior on a pedestal like that. Especially after recent events back home.]

It isn't anything that noble. I'm just a person who's bad at looking past something like that, when it's in front of me.

But I'd had the situation totally wrong, after all, hadn't I?

[It'd just been embarrassing and aggravating, not heroic.]

[maddeninghatter]

Noble? Ha! Ha! Ha! Dear me, that isn't what I meant. Not at all.

[ Now he extracts one of the taffy balloons and blows it up, tying it off expertly. A tap of his hand sends it floating towards Allen. ]

[debtor]

[Allen catches it, eyebrow raised.]

Then what do you think a hero is?

[maddeninghatter]

[ Brightly: ]

A fool~♪

[debtor]

[He makes a face when he realizes what this balloon resembles... and just quietly lets it float away.]

That's quite cynical, isn't it? It's usually a compliment...

[maddeninghatter]

[ Another mad little giggle. He leans down, intending to drape his arm about Allen's shoulders. ]

Come, come. Admit it. That's not the first foolishly heroic thing you've done.

[debtor]

[He allows it, grudgingly...]

I still wouldn't call it that.

But I said, didn't I? The sort of prank you pulled— I'm not somebody who can ignore something like that.

[He's just hardwired to shounen at anybody who might be in danger.]

[maddeninghatter]

[ Forehead poke ]

A fool who cares so little for his own life and safety is definitely a--

Or perhaps...

[ Conspiratorially ]

...you might be stronger than you look.

[ He has ~no clue~ about your clown costume, Allen. ]

[debtor]

[DOES HE LOOK WEAK!?! Were you not impressed, that one time you saw him!! He is so intimidating in this clown costume right now, you are missing out.]

How strong do you think I am...?

[maddeninghatter]

Good question.

[ This sounds like a challenge - the kind of challenge Break would ordinarily defer until he had a bit more information about his challenger. But this... this creature inside him is constantly bouncing about, clutching at him, whispering madness in his ears.

Break's eye gleam. ]

Why don't we find out?

[debtor]

[Totally not a challenge!! It's already been apparent that Break is a little... bit unhinged (though, despite that(?), Gil seems to trust him), but that sounded like a threat right there. WHOOPS. Allen's not exactly rarin' for a fight, and a party definitely isn't the place for it!

Stepppping back...]

We don't need to.

[maddeninghatter]

Ha ha! Don't be so boring. Come and play with meeeee~!

[ Taking hold of each end of his cane, he does a pirouette - knocking over a stack of plates at the end of the buffet table. He's clearly startled by this, but shakes it off a moment later and steps over the wreckage. ]

Hmm, well, perhaps it's too crowded in here. Shall we go outside and play?

[debtor]

[...If Break were a foot shorter, and a girl, this would be rather nostalgic. But he's not, which kinda makes it more surreal than anything.

Allen jerks back as he spins, wincing as the plates hit the floor. And his eyes quickly scan the crowed, weighing his options. He could refuse, and walk away now, save them both the trouble...

But of course he's not going to. Leaving this guy to harass, and possibly hurt, someone else? That's not happening.]

...Fine. Outside.

[He takes a step towards the exit, avoiding the mess on the floor.]

[maddeninghatter]

[ Outside. In the Darkness. Where he has never ventured, but once (and that was solely to rescue Gilbert). Fighting monsters, only to have them return the next night, always seemed like a dreadful waste of energy - and precious health.

But this is not completely pointless, he's testing this boy's strength after all. That's what this is for, right? Is Allen someone who can actually be useful... ]

After you~!

[ ...or is he the sort of hero whose sole purpose is to get himself killed?

He follows Allen, stepping through the exit. It's cold. He can feel Things looming all around. ]

[debtor]

[The Darkness. Where Allen ventures out almost nightly, to waste energy and precious health.

He's got a ton of the former, and he doesn't really care about the latter, so!

There's no real indication that he's particularly concerned his safety this time, either. Though he's not treating this lightly- keeping his guard up, not taking his eyes off of Break once they're outdoors. It is a bit inconvenient, when you don't know anything about your potential opponent's strengths or weaknesses.]

It would be better, if we simply parted ways here. We haven't got any reason to fight each other. [It's worth one last try...! He just, somehow, has this feeling it's not gonna work.]

[maddeninghatter]

[ No reason. No reason at all, not like this. A bit of sparring in the garden might answer his question easily enough, in a much less hazardous fashion. The next fine day, whenever it stops raining--

Then again, when was Hatter ever about reason? Break twirls his cane through his fingers. ]

Haaaaaaa~! Hahahahaha!

Look sharp, Mister Allen!

[debtor]

[Fine, then! HE'S WAIIIIITING.

Watching Break, eyes narrowed. What, are you going to hit him with a cane?]

[maddeninghatter]

[ ............


Well, yes! That was the idea. WHACK! ]

[debtor]

[His left arm moves up to block it, LIGHTNING FAST!!! It'll feel as though his cane's connected with some material much harder than, say. Human skin. Something almost metallic. Weird...!]

[maddeninghatter]

[ Well, that's... interesting. Some sort of armor? Or an ability...? He should have gotten a lot more touchy with Allen when he had the chance.

Maybe later. If there is a later. Hatter's growing influence is making him care less and less about little things like "later" and "tomorrow."

He lifts his cane again, making as if to hit Allen's left arm again. At the last moment, he shifts his aim, swinging around to attack Allen's right side. ]
